First of all, God never said the He helps those who help themselves. Nothing could be further from the truth. It is when I am weak that God is strong.

Secondly, unless you are getting direct revelation from God telling you not to pray for America, you are playing God when you tell people not to pray for America. St. Paul told Christians to pray for the king, and the king was far worse than what we have today.

There is no such thing as a Christian government although there may be Christians in the government. Christ's kingdom is not of this world, and the government was not instituted to make Christians. The state is not an instrument of the Church, and it does not directly serve the Church. The Church is not a worldly government. There is so much poor theology posted on FR that it is depressing at times.

Indeed. The words of our Lord Jesus the Christ make clear that there is in the world a secular authority and a spiritual authority; nowhere does Jesus advocate combining the two.
