**The original Reformers affirmed the Trinity without qualification. Thus Luther and Calvin, and the sixteenth century confessions of Protestant faith uniformly attested to the Trinity of Persons in God. But the subjectivism of the Protestant principles paved the way to a gradual attrition of the faith, so that rationalism has made deep inroads into the denominations. The most common form of this rationalism takes the three persons in God as only three personifications of the divine attributes, e.g., divine power is personified by the Father, divine wisdom by the Son, and divine goodness by the Holy Spirit.**
I was aware of the first part of this, but not the second part.

He also didn't come to make a religion but instead a family..
In a family some members are often not too smart..
but they are indeed family..
Could be the conclusion is no longer relevant.
What about the last judgment when Christ separates the sheep from the goats.
Yes, Christ constantly made, makes and will make judgments.
This might a little off topic but on the local religious channel there a Catholic priest by the name of Father Pisegna. Anyone heard of or seen him and if so any opinions of his teachings. I noticed nothing of his has been posted on FR but when I watch him he seems to make some pretty good points.
I don’t have a TV, so I could not answer your querry.
I am convinced that the only God we'll ever know, and the only God that we'll ever see is Jesus Christ our Lord.
This verse speaking of Christ: “For in Him dwelleth the fullness of the Godhead bodily.” Colosians 2:9
Three distinct persons, one God, all of them in Jesus Christ our Lord. Our Lord never COMMANDED us to understand, only to believe. Amen.
“We All Believe in One True God”
by Martin Luther, 1525
1. We all believe in one true God,
Who created earth and heaven,
The Father, who to us in love
Hath the right of children given.
He both soul and body feedeth,
All we need He doth provide us;
He through snares and perils leadeth,
Watching that no harm betide us.
He careth for us day and night,
All things are governed by His might.
2. We all believe in Jesus Christ,
His own Son, our Lord, possessing
An equal Godhead, throne, and might,
Source of every grace and blessing.
Born of Mary, virgin mother,
By the power of the Spirit,
Made true man, our elder Brother,
That the lost might life inherit;
Was crucified for sinful men
And raised by God to life again.
3. We all confess the Holy Ghost,
Who sweet grace and comfort giveth
And with the Father and the Son
In eternal glory liveth;
Who the Church, His own creation,
Keeps in unity of spirit.
Here forgiveness and salvation
Daily come through Jesus’ merit.
All flesh shall rise, and we shall be
In bliss with God eternally. Amen.
Hymn #251
The Lutheran Hymnal
Text: The Nicene Creed
Author: Martin Luther, 1525
Titled: “Wir glauben all’ einen Gott”
Tune: “Wir glauben all’ an einen Gott”
Thanks. Is that of German origin?
Indeed. It is one of a series of Catechetical hymns which Luther wrote; there are also hymns based on the Ten Commandments and the Our Father.
The conditions of 16th century Germany were very similar to those of 19th century France; Luther took the same approach that would late be taken by the Cure of Ars in going “back to the basics” and teaching the fundamentals of the faith.
Luther thought that the peasant folk might learn these essentials all the better if they could sing them, hence the catechetical hymns.

So true. In working with pre-school children, if I could teach a concept through song — it stuck!
Lex orandi, lex credenti
That is why I am very cautious about jumping on the latest "cotemporary" worship bandwagons. People begin to believe what they sing--and much of what passes for hymnody these days will at best produce a shallow faith.

Most traditional Catholics like me prefer the old time hymns such as “Holy God, We Praise Thy Name.”
I think most people don't dwell on it too much...We know there are three, but there is one...Jesus is God, the Holy Spirit is the same God and of course the Father is God...
If God wanted us to know more, He'd have revealed more...
Calling someone a heretic for not believing your particular 'guess' doesn't seem to be too Christian to me...
"Grosser Gott"--another German classic!
Hey, I’m just the messenger here!
An excellent post, great information!
