In a letter dated September 29, 2008, Chad Hardy, producer of the infamous Men on a Mission Calendars and website, received a letter from Brigham Young University informing him that his name had been removed from the August 15, 2008 graduation roll. The letter stated that he would not be awarded his BA degree in Communication Studies because he had been excommunicated from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on July 13, 2008, a month before graduation.

All of his required coursework had already been completed prior to the church discipline. He was not required to abide by the schools strict Honor Code because he finished his coursework online from his home in Las Vegas, NM. The only recourse given to him to get his diploma was to come back to full fellowship with the LDS Church.

Brigham Young University failed to follow their own policies and procedures in disciplining Hardy and revoking his degree. Two weeks later, Hardy was denied and exception from BYU policy and will not be awarded his degree.

The question that Joseph Smith was asking was, which is the “true” church, meaning, “Which is the church that Jesus founded?”

During the time of the revivals in upstate New York, several sects were contending for members, including the Presbyterians. His mother and a couple of his siblings had joined the Presbyterians. When he had his vision, he was told that none of the churches were the “true” church. Afterward, he told his mother that he had learned for himself that Presbyterianism was not true. The only reason he mentioned Presbyterianism was because that was the sect that his mother had just joined. He wasn’t singling it out as being any better or worse than any of the others.

You get worked up over the fact that Mormons believe that none of the existing churches were the “primitive” church —meaning the church as established by Jesus. But, why?

There wouldn’t be any Protestant denominations if the Protestants had not believe that the church as established by Christ had been corrupted over the years, and no longer existed. That was why they broke with the Catholic church.

My great-great grandfather was a Methodist minister who discussed the mid-19th century Protestant notion that there needed to be a restoration, because all the churches that existed were “fallen churches” with “hireling priesthoods.” Once Joseph Smith announced the restoration, that notion appears to have been swept under the rug.

At the core of every denomination is the belief that it is right about some point of doctrine or another, and the others are wrong. So what? We can still work together on common political goals.

I explained it several times on this thread. He reenrolled in BYU with full knowledge that he was not in good standing with the church. That is indisputable based on the timelines in his lawyers’ letter, and on the youtube presentation which he created. He had no right to do that, and he knew it.

I just hope those who represent BYU and the LDS are a little smarter, a little less impassioned, a little more tempered and have their thinking based in the realities of the real world and the American court system than you and a few of your peers here.

Today, there are as many as 100 organizations claiming to be a part of the Latter Day Saint movement, most centered in Utah or Missouri. Most regard their own group, however small, to be the only legitimate Christian church. Most of these organizations are very small, but overall, but the second largest denomination, the Community of Christ, reports over 200,000 members.

• The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (a.k.a. The Church of Jesus Christ, and the LDS) is by far the largest Mormon denomination. It is a continuation of the "Rocky Mountain Saint" branch of Mormonism.

Yet you choose not to post that part of the truth when you repeat and repeat this cut and past.

Looks like another case of lets not bother with the rest of the facts, they do not fit what you want people to think about this Church.

They weren’t the church as it was established by Christ. That doesn’t mean that they didn’t retain some true doctrines. But they no longer had the priesthood authority, they didn’t have the characteristics of the church founded by Christ, even to the extent those characteristics are set forth in the Bible. Some doctrine had been corrupted.

river in Arabia, Bountiful, temples, and THIS: As knowledge of the ancient world grows, detail after detail in the Book of Mormon is being substantiated. An avalanche of information has been uncovered in the last 10 or 15 years.

All this wonderful information..it should be easy-peasey to post links to sources to back up these claims. That's something most of the "antis" do...substantiate claims with links to sources.

There also has to be a stipulation, it has to be independent sources.

Mormon's can write books that say whatever they want about anything dug up out of the ground, (they have), just as any religious group can.

But to stand up to independent scrutiny from outside sources is the true test of factual, substantial evidence.

For example, multiple sources have examined ruins at Masada, Herod's temple, the streets of Bethlehem. While forming various opinions on the divinity of Christ or the exact roles of others, there is no denying that these places mentioned in the bible indeed exist and in many palaces we can walk among the ruins even now. An Atheist is not going to deny the existence of Nazareth just because he doesn't believe in Christ, the place is real.

We are not talking about faith here, but thing that are tangible, that “sustain” the BOM.

If it is true and correct, this would be an easy task.
