Is the Church of 7th Day Adventist an Apostate Church?
Vanity | March 6th, 2009 | TaraP

Posted on 03/06/2009 9:51:50 AM PST by TaraP

I was thinking of attending there worship. I have admired many of thier teachings on Sabbath Observance Healthy Living, Chatiable Giving and Prophetic teachings. However I am not sure if all thier doctrine is sound.

I understand Ellen G White is the founder of this church In brief, she was a woman of remarkable spiritual gifts who lived most of her life during the nineteenth century (1827-1915), yet through her writings she is still making a revolutionary impact on millions of people around the world.

During her lifetime she wrote more than 5,000 periodical articles and 40 books; but today, including compilations from her 50,000 pages of manuscript, more than 100 titles are available in English. She is the most translated woman writer in the entire history of literature, and the most translated American author of either gender.

Her writings cover a broad range of subjects, including religion, education, social relationships, evangelism, prophecy, publishing, nutrition, and management. Her life-changing masterpiece on successful Christian living, Steps to Christ, has been published in more than 140 languages. Seventh-day Adventists believe that Mrs. White was more than a gifted writer; they believe she was appointed by God as a special messenger to draw the world's attention to the Holy Scriptures and help prepare people for Christ's second advent. From the time she was 17 years old until she died 70 years later, God gave her approximately 2,000 visions and dreams.

Who are the Apostate Churches today? can they easily be recognized?. It is simple to recognize apostate teachings, such as acceptance of homosexuality or teaching another way of salvation other than Jesus Christ, but is there additional teachings of apostate we should be looking for?...If we are not observing the Saturday Sabbath are we apostate? Thoughts on this?

I didn’t see you there either!

And you know why we don’t shower with our spouses?

Someone might think we’re dancing.

NO! There are some things they believe I disagree with, but they believe whole heartedly in Jesus Christ and the Trinity. If you have that and nothing else you are a brother or sister in the Lord.

Thank you. They’re pretty basic and biblical as far as I can tell. I only skimmed over them. I didn’t study it ‘deeply.’ I know Saturday is your day of worship and that some Adventists have said that people who don’t worship on that day are bound for hell. Is that really what you believe? Just curious. We have Seventh Day Baptists in our area and wonder if they are similar.

You wrote:

“When Paul preached to the Gentiles, they were founding new churches sometimes decades after Christ, and what Paul taught wasn’t what Christ taught.”

Nonsense. Paul taught what Christ taught and that’s what his claim was too. Also, he established no new Churches, only churches.

“So if a modern day Paul were to teach the same things the original Paul taught with the same results, then would those new churches be discounted by you since they came about 2000 years after Christ?”

New Churches should always be discounted.

Currently none.

Hard to find a church that doesn’t worship a man or conglomeration of gods or a phallic symbol (OT image) on its roof.

Trinity = three.

God is one; there is only one God.

Last churches I attended were Baptist but that accounts for about 60% of all churches in the South...kinda like saying “coke”...it is a generic term.

Discrediting what I have told you based on a denominational tag, or lack thereof, is at your own peril.

If you look for perfection in any messenger other than Christ you will be disappointed.

Every prophet of Old had his foibles. I have mine!

If you hunger and thirst for righteousness you will find...if you only seek self affirmation, you will probably find that as well.

I know Saturday is your day of worship and that some Adventists have said that people who don’t worship on that day are bound for hell.

It's more complicated than that, although there certainly are some SDAs who'd probably hold that simplistic view.

I think the official position is that IF you know better, and then wilfully defy the Saturday Sabbath thing, then you're in trouble. But the church also is open to the notion that good people throughout history who never even had an opportunity to learn biblical truth may still reach heaven.

Wow, you’ve done your homework. I had no idea. Seems like churches that use other books beside the Bible (White, Smith, etc.) are the ones you need to watch out for. I know SDA’s are legalistic and pretty fundamental but I had never studied them.

Sense.

Show me where Christ taught of the mystery of One Body or the Church Of Christ or salvation by grace.

Now show me where Paul taught those topics.

See, there's a difference.

Although each group was a new group, they were all part of the Church of Christ.

But each one had different needs and applications of the same truths. They were similar yet different.

We’re to live by the spirit of the law, not the law itself. The ten commandments are surely a guide. But to break one is to break all. Legalism kills. It doesn’t save you. Keeping the ten commandments will not save you.

I am Catholic.
As such, we do not do “full immersion” Baptism very often, as we realize that, today, the water itself is only symbolic.
That point aside, you are silly.
You ask stupid questions based on a false premise and they you feel victorious when I do not fall into your trap?

Why does 2 plus 2 equal 5?

“Well, it doesn't equal 5!”

SEE, SEE, You CAN'T ANSWER MY QUESTION!

You are ridiculous.

Like the Dr. Seuss story, the “Sneatches” you think that some sign on some is better than some sign on others, or that God will be so shallow as to care about the precise form of Baptism.

Your leaders are fakes, frauds, plagiarizers and snake oil salespeople. They have been proven to have stolen their material from others. They have been proven to have NO training in ancient languages, translation, true theology or logic.

I have great respect for most Evangelicals, Baptists, Protestants, Orthodox and Catholics who try to live their faith.

However, your Faith seems to believe that the road to Heaven requires telling everyone else that YOU are better than they are, and that they are damned to Hell.

Sorry, it is YOU that does not know God, or Scripture.

“They will know you by your works”! As a Christian, I wish I could introduce you, but you seem bent on demanding only the God you want, not the God of Grace and Love and Light.

To this day they teach that those who followed after a man who taught that the Lord would come in Oct 22, 1844 were correct to do so and were the ones truly following God and that those who refuted him with sound scripture were not following God.

They have since changed what the believe happend on that day in history but never changed who was following God and who was not following God.

They no longer teach this but their prophetess saw in vision that those who didn’t know what really happened in 1844 would have their prayers answered by satan instead of God. Of course they still believe in their prophetess ( most don’t even know she taught this ).

I stake my salvation on Jesus Christ, the author and finisher of my faith. What happens to people who are not baptized? Do they go to hell even though they accepted Jesus Christ into their lives? Perhaps they did so just before they died.

So if we only walk in faith but deny the works,

Christians do not deny works, we do good works to Glorify God and to show others Christ. We do them as thanksgiving, not as a means to get us to heaven. It is a question of motivation.

I have not read through all the posts here yet, but would like to add one piece of advice:

If you feel the need to question a church, it's better to stick with what you know--if your current situation is in a biblical church. If you do not know, or easily find, what a particular denomination teaches, then they are probably pretty secretive about--which does not mean good things.
