MANASSAS, VA (MARCH 3, 2009) - Half of the 26 Catholic activists, scholars and theologians who signed a statement publicly supporting President Barack Obamas selection of pro-abortion Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius as Secretary of Health and Human Services are professors employed by Catholic universities, The Cardinal Newman Society revealed today.
These professors are giving comfort and aid to those whose stated goals are to advance policies directly opposed to Catholic teachings on life issues, and they do it under the guise of fidelity to Jesus Christ, said Patrick J. Reilly, President of The Cardinal Newman Society.
Lauding pro-abortion Catholics such as Gov. Sebelius is an entirely individual action that does not necessarily reflect on their Catholic employers, but it does highlight the problem of Catholic universities being used as platforms for pro-abortion politics. Moreover, it speaks to the need for careful faculty hiring that considers the moral judgment and example of professors.
The pro-Sebelius open statement, organized by the pro-Obama group Catholics United, cites Sebelius successful efforts at reducing abortion. Sebelius has said that she personally believes abortion is wrong.
However, Kathleen Sebelius vetoed pro-life legislation on four separate occasions as governor of Kansas. After she vetoed the pro-life Comprehensive Abortion Reform Act in April 2008, Bishop Joseph Naumann told the Los Angeles Times that she should stop receiving Communion until she publicly repudiates her support of abortion.
According to Robert Novak in a May 2008 article entitled A Vice President for Abortion, Sebelius was allied with the aggressive Kansas branch of Planned Parenthood in a bitter struggle with anti-abortion activist District Attorney Phill Kline. There is substantial evidence she has been involved in laundering abortion industry money for distribution to Kansas Democrats. Kansas is the fiercest state battleground for abortion wars, making Kathleen Sebelius the national pro-choice poster girl.

There is only one word for these:
Excommunicate!!
If you go by the polls a majority of Roman Catholics voted for the 0 so no surprise.
You can find the aggregated and annotated 2008 exit polls, covering a wide spectrum of religious affiliation, on my profile page.
So there are a bunch of Catholics in name only who don’t take their faith seriously — what else is new?
Those are all Catholic university wannabes.
Unbelievable - but it is what you get when you SAY you stand for something but allow dissenters to hijack the forum.
No surprise at this rogue’s gallery. If they were honest they cease all pretense of being Catholic. Also I don’t think the Dioscean Bishops have little if any control over so called Catholic universities. But their individual parish priests and Bishops should refuse them the sacraments. The Universities should be made to relinquish the name Catholic if they continue to foster and tolerate such affronts to the faith under their roofs. But how this is done I have no idea.
Time for the Bishops to take a stand. Long over due.
Totally misleading headline!. There is no legally enforceable requirement that employees of Catholic institutions be Catholic or that they be muted in their private lives.
Info.
I suspect the priest listed is a catholic. Or at least a CINO.
Perhaps a homo* as well.
I would love to know what % of the Bishops voted for Obama.I am sure it was sizeable. The Bishops silence is deafening.
Not exactly. A study cited by Archbishop Charles Chaput of Denver in his recent address to the University of Toronto finds that the overwhelming majority of catholics who regularly attend mass and practice their faith voted for McCain or did not vote at all.
I'm not too sure, they are both Jesuits. Fr. Massaro is indeed a priest, but one that need some guidance and discipline by the Church elders. Hollenbach is a Jesuit Brother, which is different than being a priest. Thier websites are listed below. It might not be a bad idea to contact them directly as well as the University and the Jesuits to voice your observations and complaints. http://www.bc.edu/schools/stm/faculty/massaro.html

The black, liberal, extremist, comes-from-inner-city-Chicago “archbishop” of Atlanta ?
Would he vote for Obama? Nah
/sarchasm - the gaping hole between lieberals and the truth
Hollenbach’s Curriculum Vitae states that he was ordained to the priesthood in 1971.
