Bronfman's blindness

One of the perks (such as it is) of working for a Jewish organization is receiving unsolicited books and manuscripts in the mail. Most — like "new age" Jewish ritual guides, Middle-East manifestoes and novels channeling their authors' neuroses through Biblical narratives — don't interest me. Occasionally, though, a freebie escapes the circular file. Like the copy (there were actually two, a few weeks apart, one hardcover, the other soft) I received of "Hope, Not Fear: A Path to Jewish Renaissance" by Edgar M. Bronfman and Beth Zasloff.

The Bronfman’s aren’t just “philanthropists.” They are one of the central families of global finance; their open declaration of apostasy should concern everyone, not just fellow Jews.

Bronfman is the embodiment of the “Protocols of the Elders of Zion” - but not the only one!

Excellent article.

The author was quoted by the NYT as saying he doesn’t believe in the G-d of the Old Testament but is happy with his Judaism just the way it is. I’m sure that’s his own surmising of his beliefs and it’s probably more complex to him than he made it sound.

What if it isn’t? I’ve never really appreciated the Jews who don’t believe in G-d but are culturally Jewish. I understand their plight, but I don’t celebrate them or even acknowledge them. They are simply Jews in Error.

Yes, I know the Old Testament is called the Torah but those were the words Mr. Bronfman used.

Yes, I know Judaism places a premium on right living and tikkun olam but Mr. Bronfman reclassifies his actions as narcissism.
