b>A 106-year-old American nun living in a convent in Rome could well be the oldest person to vote in the 2008 US Presidential election.
Sister Cecilia Gaudette, who last voted for President Eisenhower in 1952, has registered to vote and says she will vote for Democrat Barack Obama.
Although hard of hearing, she keeps herself informed by reading newspapers and watching TV at the convent.
"I'm encouraged by Senator Obama," she says.
"I've never met him, but he seems to be a good man with a good private life. That's the first thing. Then he must be able to govern," she adds.
Sitting in her modest office in the convent where she has lived for the past 50 years, the diminutive nun appears uninterested in the row inside the American Catholic church over Senator Obama's support for pro-choice policies on abortion.
Asked about her hopes for the US under an Obama presidency, she says: "Peace abroad. I don't worry about the Iraq war because I can't do anything about it. Lord knows how it will end."
"It is very complicated," she said. "Those Eastern people are not like we are."
But despite taking part in the 4 November election, Sister Cecilia does not intend to return to the US.
"I have no plans for the future. I am too old to go back to the US. Life has changed too much."
But she still watches "very important events" on TV. The election comes under this category.

Believe me, nuns are Democrats. I’m not sure how they justify the Dems abortion stance, I assume they just ignore it but, again, nuns are Democrats. Ask one.
This nun needs our prayers to change her heart and support life. She must not realize that in voting the Democratic platform she is advocating for further abortions. This is a mortal sin to support abortions. She is excommunicating herself.
**a good man with a good private life. **
And he went to a church for 20 years where the preacher damned America??
Where are her brains?
I’m convinced that it’s the oldsters that gave us McCain in the first place, because of his name recognition - and who also ousted Romney, because of his Mormonism. Thanks a lot, old-timers.
And then, either way, she gets to watch, from abroad, the U.S. spiral into the kind of socialism that has driven her adopted country’s native fertility rate down to around 1.2 children per woman.
(To be fair, McCain might merely help drive it down to maybe 1.6.)
Looks like she’s spent her 50 years in the convent with the wrong reading material. Poor soul.

Nuns for infanticide??? The body of Christ is taking a nap! WAKE UP!!!!
Let me know how that works out.
This is unbelievable.
-Sr. Marie Cecilia Gaudette, RJM (Rome, Italy
I guess she forgot to get the Papal memo.
I suspect that she will issue a “clarification” after talking to the bishop.
I hope she then lambastes Obama for misleading her. Would get some good press.
Did ACORN register her? If they did someone better check it.
As long as you are not in the military and as long as you have ACORN help you register.
That’s what’s zany about Catholicism. It’s kinda like a pro-life version of Paul Wellstone as it stands now.
No offense intended, Catholics; please correct me if I’m wrong.)

Of course she will vote for nobama, she only knows the drivel served up in the msm.
Good for her. That should cancel the expat nun's vote.
If the nun is in fact breaking the law, McCain as a Senator and Candidate must uphold the Constitution. And if the nun is breaking the law, McCain should demand that she be prosecuted.
The imagery on TV in the days before the Election would be profound. McCain calling for the nuns arrest and then Federal Officers hauling the nun away in leg irons and handcuffs.
Or, just forget about it and let the nun cast her one vote.
