From your first link: The president of the Lutheran World Federation, US bishop Mark Hanson, told a congregation of German leaders in the same church Sunday, "We Lutherans have lived through history and we have made history."

Too bad he's ignored much of the teaching of Martin Luther, as well as the Bible...

Sorry, Mark. You ain't Lutheran and from your current doctrinal teachings, I'd have a difficult time saying you are even Christian.

Schaeuble told the congregation that the celebration of Luther's legacy provided a chance to advance tolerance between Christians and Muslims in Germany.

Secular tolerance? Spiritual tolerance? Religious tolerance? I am not sure that Luther would tolerate the teachings of Islam. Of course, he would not persecute them either.

Doesn't appear Schaeuble is either. I've been reading Luther's commentary on Galatians and Hanson's positions would infuriate Dr. Luther.

Thanks for the reminder. There will be some good opportunities for learning history and reflecting on wrongs and rights of the past in the upcoming decade or so. Next dates, 2018 Heidelberg debate, 2019 Leipzig debate. Then it’s 2021, the Edict of Worms and the courage of Frederick III. Then 2023, the first burning of Lutherans as heretics and on to the horrible 2025 Peasants’ War (bloody communism cloaked in religion). It’s amazing how fast it happened, not even a decade from initial objections to full-blown revolution.

What the heck? Any idea why we had two posts deleted by the moderator on this Lutheran thread? We're not that troublesome, are we? (Although I've had my moments...)

Very accurate. The ELCA has become apostate. It is a liberal political entity now.
