Update: Biden skips Mass where new Bishop speaks out against him
American Papist ^ | September 9, 2008 | Thomas Peters

Posted on 09/09/2008 10:17:01 AM PDT by NYer

Once again, my low expectations are wonderfully surpassed.

Reader John V notes that Biden, as I predicted, skipped town:
"Looks like you were right. [Biden] was in Wilmington yesterday, but had to go to Green Bay today."
And it's a good thing, too. I wouldn't have wanted to present myself for communion after this homily by Bishop Malooly:

... Mary’s mother, St. Anne, carried a very special life in her womb which serves as a vivid reminder that every life is special. We will continue to stress the constant teaching of the Church that each person must respect every life from conception to natural death. And we will continue to seek the intercession of Saint Thomas More for Statesmen, Politicians, Supreme Court Justices, Judges and Lawyers—that they may be courageous and effective in defending and promoting the sanctity of human life, the foundation of every human right, the foundation of our love for the poor.

While Bishop Fran Malooly does not name Joe Biden (or Nancy Pelosi) by name, anyone who has been keeping up on this story knows what's being said quite plainly.
Nor is the St. Thomas More reference a throw-away line, I would argue. In his new book on Catholic voting, Abp. Charles Chaput spends an entire section talking about the example of St. Thomas More.
Coincidence? Perhaps. But lest we forget, St. Thomas summed up his witness in one line before his martyrdom:
"I die the King's good servant - but God's first."

Sarah Palin will use this against him when he brings up her “extremist views”. The leaders of her church aren’t denying communion to her, so would he care to explain?

Well, she isn't Catholic, so they would deny her Communion were she to present herself. One must be Catholic, in communion with the Church's teachings and in a state of grace in order to worthily receive Holy Communion.

***And it is those catholic leaders who are denying communion to Biden. The leaders in Palin’s church are not denying communion to her. If you were a catholic (sounds like you might be) and the leaders of your church denied communion to you, would that put you at the mainstream or the extreme?

he has the excuse of campaigning to be off traveling and can pick and choose where he attends mass. ole smarmy joe isn’t going to let himself be caught at the altar rail getting dissed for communion. i love that the pressure is on, though!

The leaders in Palin’s church are not denying communion to her.

I don't know if her church even has communion.

Just need to have Bishops/Archbishops/Cardinals to follow in the footsteps of Archbishop Emeritus John Francis Donoghue who banned pro-abort Catholic politicians from receiving communion in the Archdiocee of Atlanta.

Speaking of which, Obama is pulling out Georgia. Maybe he realizes that his running mate Joe Biden could pull a real boner by going to Mass in Georgia... [Though Joe Biden is allowed to receive communion in the Diocese of Savannah.]

If they were denying her communion due to her stance on something such as the prolife issues which Biden’s leaders are, the media would be all over it. You know that. So answer the question put to you in the post rather than avoiding it.

Is this the question you are referring to? It is a hypothetical that wouldn't apply to me (the premise is false) because I wouldn't present myself for Communion unless I was in a state of grace. In more general terms, there is not enough information to draw a definite conclusion.

I understand what you're trying to say, but that is not a good example. If one defiantly presents themselves for Communion knowing that they are not in a state of grace, well, they place their salvation in peril by committing a sacrilege.

In a report by Bill Salmon today on Special Report by Brit Hume, he said that Sarah Palin was born a Catholic and had moved on to other churches.

Once a Catholic — always a Catholic.

Now we know why she is so strong on pro-life issues!
