Governor Sarah Palin's church and a list of sermons she may have heard

As Obama's church affiliation was attacked fully expect Sarah's affiliation to come under scrutiny - I don't know how many if any of these sermons she heard but she did belong to this church for some years.

The Bible Church is NOT an Assemblies of God. It is an interdenominational evangelical church like multitudes of similar churches throughout the United States and around the world.

As a youth pastor in Wasilla Ak I just wanted to reply for a moment. Sarah and the fam have attended several churches here in the “Valley” over the past few years. Just prior to running for Gov. she attended Church on the Rock. She has attended Wasilla Assembly of God & Wasilla Bible Church, all of which are solid churches here in Wasilla. I can say from first hand interaction that she IS the real deal and a womon of sound conviction and doctrine. The issue of home church is a little fuzzy due to the nature of her office and the shear size of the state of Alaska. For example we have the only state capitol NOT accesiable by car, and if you cut Alaska in half then Teaxs would be the third largest state. Anyway I would gladly personaly vouche for her Christian commitment. Peace to You!

I read elsewhere today she is a Catholic.

Anyone?

Per this Time interview,

What's your religion?

Christian.

Any particular...?

No. Bible-believing Christian.

What church do you attend?

A non-denominational Bible church. I was baptized Catholic as a newborn and then my family started going to non-denominational churches throughout our life.

So it sounds like she has something everybody can hang their hats on ('cept the atheists).

Who REALLY cares what her religion is

some of us are very glad she is a Christian too

and don't think it a coincidence given all her other views.

" I didn’t spot any dispensationalist distinctives in their statement of faith."

A of G is definately pre-mil dispensationalist.

"Nothing really jumps out at me from their website as a cause for concern, except possibly not mentioning denominational affiliation"

This is becoming common, due to the "emerging Church" influence.

"Just like Jim Bakker"

Jim Bakker was of his own mind, and obeyed nothing that would constrain him. He took the mantle falsely.

"Palin apparently supports the teaching of creationism in public schools. Is THIS what we want to be one heartbeat away from the presidency?"

Yes Mr. noobie troll, it definately is. Had you spent some time here you would know that we are about 75% creationists.

Well, an Assemblies of God pastor in an article on another thread was claiming her as one of theirs. Whatever she is, she is an Evangelical. As long as she’s not like some of the Freepers I’ve encountered on FR threads, I won’t hold it against her, unless she tries to establish an Evangelical theocracy, LOL!

What kind of church is that? All that talk about Christ and Salvation, and not a word about the goddess gaia, global warming, abortion rights, tolerance of homosexuality, or hatred for America. Palin’s religious views are dramatically out of step with those of more moderate politicians like Obama, Biden, and Pelosi. /s

The church at the link doesn’t appear to be AoG, but rather an independent Bible church. There is only one AofG church shown for that community, and it has a different name and web site.

Per Wikopediea (I know...) she was baptized Catholic as a baby, but re-baptized at 12 or 13 when her parents moved to a Pentecostal Church. I’m sure that warms the cockles or your Catholic bashing heart.

After re-reading their Statement of Faith, I have to agree.

It appears to be deliberately broad, much like Missionary Aliance churches.

My guess is that if you dug around in the resumes of the preachers, you’d find DTS, or Biola, or perhaps a Baptist seminary.

In any event, it appears to be Evangelical.

Here is the official statement from Wasilla A/G’s website...
August 30th, 2008

Governor Sarah Palin did attend Wasilla Assembly of God since the time she was a teen ager. She and her family were a part of the church up until 2002. Since that time she has maintained a friendship with Wasilla Assembly of God and has attended various conferences and special meetings here. This June, the Governor spoke at the graduation service of our School of Ministry, Master’s Commission Wasilla Alaska.

We have had some inquires into Governor Palin’s beliefs. We do know that Gov Palin is a woman of integrity. She is a servant of the people, she is a strong leader. As for her personal beliefs, Governor Palin is well able to speak for herself on those issues.

As Alaskans we are excited about our Governor being selected as the nominee for Vice President. As residents of Wasilla, we are ecstatic about one of our own being thrust to the national forefront. However, as a church, it is not appropriate for us to endorse any one candidate over another. As believers, we are reminded in 2 Peter 2.13 that we are to submit to those in authority. 1 Timothy 2.1-2 tells us pray for those in authority. This we will do no matter who is elected. We wish the best to Governor Palin, and Senator McCain, as well as to Senator Obama and Senator Biden.

May God continue to bless America.
