Wow! This is a brilliantly scathing response to Nancy Pelosi and her comments on Meet The Press Sunday concerning abortion. Here's the amazing statement in full.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: August 26, 2008Wow! Wow! Wow!
STATEMENT OF HIS EMINENCE, EDWARD CARDINAL EGAN CONCERNING REMARKS MADE BY THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
Like many other citizens of this nation, I was shocked to learn that the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States of America would make the kind of statements that were made to Mr. Tom Brokaw of NBC-TV on Sunday, August 24, 2008. What the Speaker had to say about theologians and their positions regarding abortion was not only misinformed; it was also, and especially, utterly incredible in this day and age.
We are blessed in the 21st century with crystal-clear photographs and action films of the living realities within their pregnant mothers. No one with the slightest measure of integrity or honor could fail to know what these marvelous beings manifestly, clearly, and obviously are, as they smile and wave into the world outside the womb. In simplest terms, they are human beings with an inalienable right to live, a right that the Speaker of the House of Representatives is bound to defend at all costs for the most basic of ethical reasons. They are not parts of their mothers, and what they are depends not at all upon the opinions of theologians of any faith. Anyone who dares to defend that they may be legitimately killed because another human being “chooses” to do so or for any other equally ridiculous reason should not be providing leadership in a civilized democracy worthy of the name.

Archbishop of New York

Ouch ;-)
Bump!
Can’t be clearer than that.
Thank you, Your Eminence. Rush just read this!
I still don’t see where this, or the other links, calls into question her qualification for the Sacrament of Communion.
That'll leave a mark....
Very nice.
Is this the theological equivalent of a two by four to the head?
Glad to read this. Thanks for posting it!
Good for Him.
You'd be surprised how I got my knuckles rapped on another thread for making that very same point (although in a somewhat plainer manner of speech). I'm positively delighted that someone of far greater eminence than I was able to see through Ms. Pelosi’s feeble argument and for the same reason as your humble servant.
For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus, the same night in which he was betrayed, took bread. And giving thanks, broke, and said: Take ye, and eat: this is my body, which shall be delivered for you: this do for the commemoration of me. In like manner also the chalice, after he had supped, saying: This chalice is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as often as you shall drink, for the commemoration of me. For as often as you shall eat this bread, and drink the chalice, you shall show the death of the Lord, until he come. Therefore whosoever shall eat this bread, or drink the chalice of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and of the blood of the Lord. But let a man prove himself: and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of the chalice. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh judgment to himself, not discerning the body of the Lord.

“Is this the theological equivalent of a two by four to the head?”
In a word, yes.
No “nuance” here, baby............
is this a high enough “pay grade” ??
A completely perfect response to the ignorant Ms. Pelosi.
I suspect that deep down, below all the plastic surgery, Ms. Pelosi knows the Cardinal is right.
In boxing terms, that’s a roundhouse right! And Pelosi hits the canvas!
Way to go, Cardinal Egan!
Well, I’d like to hear what the Speaker says in repsonse to that scolding from Cardinal Egan.
If she responds.
My God, my God, she is so stupid. Hard to imagine she is speaker of the House.
“The Speaker only would need to open up her Bible...”
I have a feeling she simply shows up at Mass, receives the sacraments and, occasionally, hears someone tell her what is in the Bible and how she should believe it. Apparently, her eyes are tired after a day of reading all the bills, regulations, and cards and letters from her friends on the Left Coast. She’s not just a nobody you know. She has a responsible position. ;-)
“Well, Id like to hear what the Speaker says in repsonse . . .”
Pelosi will probably say something like “Well, that’s just *his* opinion. What does *he* know about Catholicism anyway? He’s just a man. They are all stu-u-pid.”
Methinks somebody crossed an invisible line drawn in the nave.
My prayer is that these bishops, now showing some spine, will decide to really correct the defects in their tacit teachings caused by their years of spineless “pastoral” rule.
