DENVER | Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. arrived at the Democratic National Convention on Monday amid rumblings over whether his pro-choice Catholicism would help or hurt the Democratic ticket.

But the party's hopes of winning the critical Catholic vote took a hit Sunday when Archbishop Charles Chaput of Denver said Mr. Biden should avoid taking Communion as a result of his pro-choice stand on abortion.
Archbishop Chaput, who was scheduled to lead a pro-life candlelight vigil Monday night here in front of Planned Parenthood, called Mr. Biden's support for abortion rights "seriously wrong," said archdiocese spokeswoman Jeanette De Melo.
"I certainly presume his good will and integrity," said the archbishop, "and I presume that his integrity will lead him to refrain from presenting himself for Communion if he supports a false 'right' to abortion."
The archbishop, who was not invited to speak at any convention events in what appeared to be a deliberate snub, told the Associated Press that he would like to speak privately with Mr. Biden.

Why today? Biden has held his political position on abortion for decades.
Speaker Pelosi who apparently totally misrepresented Church Doctrine on National TV has stated she has no problem getting Communion in her church (San Fransisco). Go figure....
To suggest as the Bishops have that Biden and Pelosi and others not take Communion is sort of silly. Since their beliefs and actions already contradict that of the Church what makes anyone assume that they will follow the Bishop's suggestions?
Just don’t present yourself for communion? How’s about the Bishop suggesting that Biden get his life right, and use his platform for something other than legalized murder?

Very true, that is why the Bishops need to take ACTION and confront them publicly and tell them they are wrong. If they persist, public excommunication is the appropriate response. Although I would rather burn heretics at the stake; but that’s just me.

This is first time I have noticed the Catholic Church getting on politicians about there views on infanticide and I am very proud of seeing this.
The Catholic Church should be excommunicating.
The worst form of branding!
The Church must take a stand and back the stand at all cost or they lose there mission.

Brother Chaput needs to apologize to the voters of Coloradoshalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach Adonai
for endorsing Bill Ritter for Governor.
Source for that claim? Chaput knows that he would be in serious violation of IRS regulations concerning 501(c)(3) organizations were he to endorse a candidate. Chaput has repeatedly stated that he doesn't endorse candidates. Also, considering that Beauprez is a pro-life Catholic your claim seems specious at best, so if you've got verifiable evidence to the contrary please provide it.
It looks like Chaput has encouraged the bishops to take go public.
