Obama's Campaign Admits National Right to Life is Right Posted on August 18, 2008, 9:36 AM | Deal W. Hudson
As I predicted on Saturday, Obama's accusation of "lying" against National Right to Life has forced him to admit Doug Johnson was correct.
Johnson, chief lobbyist for NRTL, published written evidence of Obama's vote against a Born Alive Infant Protection Act that contained the same language as the federal bill.
Obama had protested repeatedly that had he been presented with such a bill, he would have signed it. So much for that excuse... of course, now the campaign has come up with a new one.
First, let's review the previous claims:
Illinois physicians were opposed to the bill. There was already an Illinois law banning partial birth abortion. The bill did not contain the"neutrality clause" of the federal ban, which the campaign now insists was incorrect. The new excuse -- in italics -- is from an article in today's New York Sun:
[Obama's] campaign yesterday acknowledged that he had voted against an identical bill in the state Senate, and a spokesman, Hari Sevugan, said the senator and other lawmakers had concerns that even as worded, the legislation could have undermined existing Illinois abortion law. Those concerns did not exist for the federal bill, because there is no federal abortion law.
As Doug Johnson responds in the article, the neutrality clause would have applied to the Illinois law, if the abortion law had been challenged. What makes this latest campaign claim even more dubious is that it has never been mentioned before.
Obama, in his oft-quoted July 1 interview for Relevant Magazine, doesn't say a word about it. One would think if overturning Illinois law was Obama's chief concern in voting against BAIPA, he would have said something about it.
The admission by the Obama campaign is found in the bottom half of the New York Sun article, which means the newspaper was either trying to bury it or doesn't recognize its importance.
Obama's obfuscations and the campaign's clumsy spin will only succeed in making the story more visible.
Another link at the "American Papist" is also covering the story. Regardless of our theological differences on Justification, Scripture and Tradition, I think this is someting all of us need to get behind and get the message out about Obama being the most Milatant Abortion candidate in U.S. Presidential history.
Pax et Bonum
Of course, Obama’s coverup of facts just makes it all the worse. Now we will see if the media reports it.

Salvation:
Good work there, I have been following the story as I get Fr. Pavone’s Priest for Life newsletter and following it through other Catholic sources like the Knight of Columbus, at Catholic Blogs like Deal Hudson’s Inside Catholic, among others. However, I am glad to see that this is getting major attention across the Catholic and Protestant Pro-Life Blogs as the MSM has not, as of yet, been addressing this question.
Fox news had a major discussion about it last night so I think this story is going to have some legs.
Keep up the good work all Pro-Life posters at FR.
BUMP & PING
Thanks for posting. In a sane world, this issue would sink Obama’s candidacy.
Thorin:
Your welcome, hopefull, Pro-Life conservatives can get this information to friends, family, etc and show how Obama is without a doubt, the most radical Pro-Abortion candidate in U.S. Presidential history.
Regards
It’s not just pro-life conservatives. I know Roe-supporting liberals who are **appalled** at partial-birth abortion and failure to protect born-alive survivors of abortion.
