US bishops reject proposed translation of Roman Missal

Washington, Jul. 7, 2008 (CWNews.com) - The US bishops have rejected the latest proposed English translation of the liturgical prayers from the Roman Missal.

In a mail-in ballot, support for the proposed translation fell well short of the two-thirds required for approval by the US bishops' conference. The mail ballot became necessary because of an inconclusive vote at a June meeting of the episcopal conference.

The proposed translation was for "Proper" prayers for the Mass: the prayers for particular feasts and liturgical seasons. The US bishops have already given their consent to an English translation of the unchanging prayers of the "Ordinary;" that translation now awaits final approval from Rome.

I hope this isn't a duplicate, I didn't see it. I read it on Spirit Daily.

From the 6th paragraph down:

Led by Bishop Donald Trautman of Erie, Pennsylvania, the former chairman of the bishops' liturgy committee, critics of the new translations have complained that they use archaic language and defended the earlier work of the International Commission for English in the Liturgy.

It really is no surprise to me, being here in Trautman's diocese. 'Defended the earlier work', why does that not surprise me?

The Catholic Bishops in this country still don’t get it.
The US Catholic Conference of Bishops ought to be suppressed. Bishops like Trautperson have almost destroyed
us.

It’s so true. The ‘really’ Catholic bishops like Chaput or Burke seem to get it, but so many others seem to be with Trautman. And they seem to be intensifying their efforts. I am so pleased to see a return or rebirth of Orthodox Catholicism in some areas. It will take a lot to turn heads back around in this diocese, so many I know who were opposed just a decade or so ago, now skip merrily along.

Look on the bright side. He's 73, two more years before a quickly accepted resignation. That generation is starting to fade.

Yeah..but the Good News the Pope is planning to Make the Consecration done in Latin... I am In Kuwait and we get all these Phillipino and Indian songs For The Gloria.. and such that change the Words for the Song not fitting the Songs to the Liturgical wording!

The Trautman Crowd even added text to the Liturgy that the good guys they want to eliminate because it didn’t exist to translate... it is a shame they don’t televise all the Bishops meetings..on EWTN...

EWTN used to televise the whole shebang, but then the Bishops pulled the plug on that. Guess the Bishops wanted to keep the Faithful in the dark.

Many of the U.S. Catholic bishops are protestant. That's the problem, in a nutshell....

The life expectancy of Benedict XVI and the time to retirement of a majority of these bishops are probably about the same. These guys are just stalling for time, hoping BXVI croaks before they are obliged to tender their resignations when they hit 75. I hope Benedict reads these individuals for what they are and imposes a translation on them. It would serve them right for all the transparent foot-dragging whose only object would seem to be the advancement of heterodoxy.
