A former Salvation Army pastor remains in the Volusia County Jail, facing charges of lewd or lascivious molestation on a 13-year-old girl. John Chastain, 41, was the Captain Officer of the Salvation Army Church in DeLand from 1999 to 2005, and as such was the church's pastor.
He's accused of luring a teenager to perform sexual acts from the time she was 13 years old until she turned 16. Chastain left the church and Volusia County Sheriff's investigators caught up with him last week in Georgia. News 13 spoke with the sister of the victim, who said Chastain was the family pastor everyone trusted.
"I feel betrayed, and when you trust somebody like that and they do something like that, it's hard. I would have trusted him with everything," said the victims sister. The State Attorney's Office has not filed formal charges against Chastain, but told News 13 that could come as early as Thursday. Meanwhile, investigators fear there could be more victims out there.
I thought accountability programs have been in effect for at least 10 years nation wide.
Organizations definitely need to look more closely at why people choose careers that pay little in monetary terms. Unfortunately it puts good people under suspicion, as well.
I have to look at this story with a grain of salt..having had our pastor accused of the same thing by a very troubled girl...it turned out she was just seeking attention and made the whole thing up. Not saying molestation never occurs, because it does, I’m just saying I’d want more evidence than just someone saying so.
Dog bites man.
Every time I log on to FR, I see multiple pastor/sex posts from Coleus.
How many of these are you going to post daily? Your defeating your purpose, turning people off.
Good job Coleus! Child abuse is non denominational. Keep shining the light!!!
Out of curiosity, what is your purpose for posting these threads about pastors?
There are sinners in all denominations. Christians of all faiths should stick together, clean out their perverts and continue to love one another.
Well it seemed to work OK for our non-Catholic brothers and sisters when the Catholic abuse scandal was being dragged through the MSM.
How many is he going to post? Probably as many as there are out there. As we were told repeatedly when it was Catholics on the receiving end, "hey, don't shoot me.......I'm just the messenger!"
If you find them painful, then there's always the option of not reading them.
