The case of the anti-Mormons
The Deseret News ^ | 6/30/2008 | Scott D. Pierce

Viewers of tonight's season premiere of "History Detectives" will learn that a book about the horrors of "Female Life Among the Mormons" is a work of fiction.

And the woman who owns the 1856 volume will be "disappointed" by that news.

"History Detectives" (8 p.m., Ch. 7) is a fascinating series in which historical objects are examined to determine if they're authentic. (Tonight's other two segments feature a World War II diary and a coin shot by Annie Oakley.)

In the case of the 1856 book about the horrors of Mormon polygamy, Marcie Waterman Murray of Stanfordville, N.Y., bought it at an auction and wants to know who wrote it. (There's no author listed.)

"I was very moved by this book. It really stayed with me a long time. I've become fascinated with it," Murray says.

What stayed with her is a barbaric account, written in the first person, of a young woman who married a Mormon elder in New York and traveled to Utah with Brigham Young. She suffered the "abominations" of polygamy and the "degradation it imposes on females."

That includes one account of a misbehaving wife who was stripped nude, tied to a tree and whipped until "blood ran to the ground."

Enter Tukufu Zuberi from "History Detectives."

"You don't know if this is a real book. You don't know if it's really from the 19th century. You don't know what it is," Zuberi said in a phone interview with the Deseret News. "But it is a document which definitely offers a skewed view toward marriage among Mormons.

"It puts (women) on the level of being slaves. You can take it as something that's either laughable, looking at it today, or something that really provided fuel for those who were anti-Mormon back in the 19th century."

Without detailing the entire episode, Zuberi quickly discovers that this is not a genuine history. Among other things, it purports to tell the story of Joseph Smith's death and gets it flat-out wrong.

And the show's conclusions are clear. "It seems that our book is little more than pulp fiction, and shot through with historical errors," Zuberi says in the show.

The segment briefly outlines 19th-century LDS history, including the effort to demonize Mormons.

"Someone could write it today in order to kind of speak badly of the Mormons," Zuberi said. "Someone could've written it then to speak badly of the Mormons. And that's our task — to find out."

He does his best to track down the author, including using "some high-tech stuff to determine who wrote the book and determine the authenticity or lack thereof."

"This one I was surprised by. The Mormon story has a lot of twists and turns."

In 21st-century Utah, "Female Life Among the Mormons" seems silly, even campy. But, obviously, the book's owner thought — perhaps hoped — it was genuine.

Upon learning that it's fiction, she gasps and says, "I'm actually a little disappointed. But I'm glad to know the truth."

But it certainly seemed as if she would've been more glad if Mormon women really had been tied to trees and whipped.

Do the Mormons go around loudly proclaiming that all other Christians are not ChristianS? they most certainly do not!

Of course they do:

And when the day cometh that the wrath of God is poured out upon the mother of harlots, which is the great and abominable church of all the earth, whose foundation is the devil... (Book of Mormon, 1 Nephi 14:17)

Right here. Read it. Here we not only have the Mormons taking major aim at a worldwide church which it labels as the great and abominable church of all the earth (v. 17) and as the whore of all the earth (1 Nephi 14:10; cf. D&C 29:21), it also references it here as the "mother of harlots" and "mother of abominations" (1 Nephi 14:9,10; D&C 88:94).

Well if the Mormon-spoken "mother whore church" referenced here is the Catholic church (how many other churches do you know that cover the entire earth?), and if it's daughters of Protestantism, Evangelicalism, Pentecostalism, and the like are its "daughter harlots" are we then to take these labels as compliments?

Do you go around calling your female family members "whores" and "harlots" like Joseph Smith did of what he considered was his "competition?" Do you deem those words as compliments?

(You have no aim, Gunner...and no ammo to boot, drop your masquerade of a "weapon"...you'd lose a water pistol skirmish)

To the Mormons, Christian apostates are not members of the one true church. To Mormons there is only "one true church." All other churches are intertwined as "the church of the devil" (1 Nephi 14:10): Behold there are save two churches only; the one is the church of the Lamb of God [Mormons see themselves in this description], and the other is the church of the devil; wherefore, whoso belongeth not to the church of the Lamb of God belongeth to that great church, which is the mother of abominations; and she is the whore of all the earth. (1 Nephi 14:10)

...loudly proclaiming...

Beyond the above verses, what about the Mormon "volume" question you feebly raise:
60,000+ missionaries daily preaching of the so-called "universal" Christian apostasy.
Countless articles & books by LDS apostles & general authorities on the same. Ensign Magazine, etc.
Millions of these LDS "scriptures" printed in numerous languages and shipped out worldwide.
Curricula with universal apostasy lessons by the millions.

Go ahead, Gunner. I dare you. Ask any Mormon if they consider any other church besides the Mormon church to be the "one" true church.

Do the Mormons go around loudly proclaiming that all other Christians are not ChristianS? they most certainly do not!

Go ahead, Gunner. I dare you. Ask most Mormons if they consider members of the fLDS to be "true" Mormons. Ask Mormons if they consider earthly polygamists to be true Mormons.

Thus, the Holy Ghost must have a “material” or “tangible body,” or He does not exist!

+++++++++++++++
What you say in no way represents the teachings of God's Church.

If you are repeating what others have said, you have been mis lead and look to be happy with third hand hearsay evidence.

If you know the truth and are deceiving others, that is very bad.

As it is, you have either been deceived or you are deceiving.

The Holy Spirit is one of Father spirit children who has not yet been born into the earth life.

There are still many of Father's spirit children that have not yet come to this life and received there body.

Typical LDS counterfeit belief systems attempt to deny God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit as all one God, but instead attempt to identify them as three distinct Beings.

Simple faith in the person of Jesus Christ, one with God the Father, who is the I AM, who provided the Perfect Sacrifice for the propitiation of the Father in the sin offering, frees God in His immutable nature to grace us with eternal life by the regeneration of our human spirit, i.e. a human spirit life, sealed for Him.

Accordingly, such doctrines espoused by Mormons denies the identity of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Himself, reducing their belief system to that of a cult.

Furthermore, even though many in leadership positions of the LDS/Mormon cult have an insatiable power lust, to the point of declaring amongst themselves they have the ability to pronounce who shall and who shall not have eternal life, they still are grossly impotent to bestow eternal life on any human, a task only performed by God the Holy Spirit, through faith in our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus.

Perhaps more revealing of the Mormon deviance from truth is the penchant to be adversarial without ever loving their fellow man as Christ loves him, and communicating the Gospel or sound doctrine.

There is great confusion amongst Mormons, failing to love their fellow man as Christ loved us, and mistaking the opposition to their heretical theologies as hatred for Mormons. Each and every member of the LDS/Mormon church has the opportunity to return to God by simple faith alone in Christ alone, who is the same God as God the Father and God the Holy Spirit.

I would encourage those influenced by LDS doctrines to first focus on studying the Holy Bible and the Gospels and Epistles, independent of any other tradition, and doing so first by confessing any known and unknown sin to God through God the SOn, what He has provided for salvation, and allow God to guide their understanding.

The Word of God is not without effect. When studied by those out of fellowship, it hardens their hearts.
