The color analysis during those youtubes are equally as
wierd as the preacher.
I do not share your opinion. I cannot think of ANYTHING as weird as Bentley and his messages.
Exactly. Christians stop revival faster than anyone else, sadly.
yup deceiving and being deceived.
Interesting... I just made an effort to get through someone’s posting of an entire sermon (well close to 50 minutes) of Todd’s, which was entitled “authentic gospel.”
IN it he did not explain the gospel. He explained what he thought the fruits of the gospel should be. And then he explained why he shouldn’t have to preach it — because everyone else is.
HUH?
I can count on one hand the number of churches that are preaching the gospel in my town (and frankly, I can do it without using any fingers!). I have to drive 25 miles to find one small pocket of believers who haven’t fallen for :
seeker sensitive, pragmatism, contemplative spirituality, word faith, prosperity gospel, the shepherding movement, super-separatist...
ALL of those are CORRUPTIONS of the gospel and I myself was very confused (having attended church all my life and only hearing the gospel in my HOME and in my VERY SMALL church during my teens... and now that I’m 38 I’ve been listening to real gospel preaching for about three years again... because I was in a church that preached AROUND the gospel for so long I didn’t know what was missing until I heard it again! (John Macarthur’s ASHAMED OF THE GOSPEL - great book!) And what POWER of GOD there is in that simple ‘foolish’ message — the very power of God that these people deny, all the while that they are saying we are the ones “denying the power thereof.”
because the gospel is not being preached. see my post just above this for explanation.
YOu are so right. Paul also had visions and said it was not permissible for him to tell about them. But... Bentley must be more inspired than Paul, or his anointing is from a different spirit.
I claim a special revelation. God came to me and assured me Bentley was not from him. But somehow these people don't believe me.
Need I remind everyone that C Peter Wagner figured prominently into Rick Warren's philosophy too?
Paul Washer is TRULY ANOINTED!
LOL I wonder if anyone will get that one?
Is it NOT amazing how when you get into a church that preaches the true power of God CHRIST the POWER OF GOD AND WISDOM of God, how the fruits just quietly begin to grow, the sins fall away, repentance is granted, forgiveness is obtained— and people are matured in Christ by knowing him through his all powerful WORD - the WORD is the ONLY way through which the Holy Spirit actually works!
and all this power of God is called ‘dead spirituality’ by those who prefer thrashing on the ground...
“having a form of godliness but denying the power thereof”
After “discovering” TB this week, it was joyous when I discovered a minister via YouTube. And heard one of the greatest sermons of the modern age. Paul Washer’s address to the Youth Conference. WOW.
Amen! I found him on Godtube.com
Thanks for posting. I’ll be reading this tomorrow. God Bless.
P.S. Bentley is a kook and a deceiver.
I had never heard of Bentley before but I compared some of the claims being made with scripture and with something my gut was telling me. In the end we have to be like the Bereans...to search scripture to see “if these things be true” to scripture. Even when “spirits” come to us to tell us things we have to apply the test given us in 1John 4
(and Jude has a few things to say as well).
I wasn’t sure if you were being serious or facetious in your posting, but it does seem like a lot of unorthodox error is being promulgated by these folks. It’s hard to see Christ for all the hocus pokus. I don’t want to deny any genuine miracles of God; that might put me in danger of “speaking a word against” the Holy Ghost.
God did state he would “pour out his spirit” on all flesh in the latter days though I don’t know that it was meant that all would be saved thru this. Judging from our increase in knowledge, I wonder if it it meant that all men would be raised to a certain level of awareness so that they would be without excuse should they deny Christ!
Certainly the Pentecost was not meant just for the 1st century and missionaries report miracles, even raisings of the dead from time to time. Missionaries are on the front lines where the spirit of God is most powerful.
Some tongue speakings seem to be gibberish, some can be translated and are found to be in known languages( though Paul mentions “tongues” of angels as well). When the tongues first fell upon the apostles they were known to be speaking of the glorious things of God to the various foriegners who observed them, who each heard in their own native languages.
Satan may be moving to smother a genuine move of God. Look at the lives of the quieter less flamboyant who seem to be on the fringes of these movements...the little old pious praying lady in the corner, the cheerful giver, the visitor to the imprisoned and the sick. Look for the weird odd sort of fellow who seems to have a correct answer for everything, whose solutions always seem to work but is otherwise generally ignored until he is needed...then he goes back to being ignored again(and he doesn’t mind it because he’s got his own groove going with Christ and doesn’t mind being the unsung hero). Look for the unflashy folks who have no great speaking ability or can’t strum a guitar with the Praise team, do they exhibit a strong sense of rationality and spiritual quietness, a maturity of character?
The Biblical pattern generally indicates that when God starts to move, it may start in a less than flashy way. Gideon the farm boy was threshing the wheat. David was the least of 7 brothers and a shepherd but he got the anointing. Jesus was born in a stable, but was literally God in Flesh! Watch for a quickening of the less flashy folks, like dry bones being given sinew, then flesh, then spiritual life and power to boldy proclaim the pure orthodoxy of the Christian faith! Not just signs and wonders, but the power of the Word proclaimed, even through the mouths of babes!
In our nation, there were several revival periods followed by times of great stress. The 1760’s came before the Revolution. The 1850’s were a time of great revival then came the Civil War. The Azuza street revivals and subsequent after events preceded the 1st world war. Perhaps the events aren’t all directly connected but what you see is a preparation of a people so that they can deal with the coming stressors. Joseph was spiritually equipped so that Egypt and the budding nation of Hebrews could be saved from the most devestating famine that would hit the whole world.
If God is going to move on his people to prep them as his most perfect bride, it’s to prep them as well for persecutions and for dealing with the various calamities about to befall mankind. Until the great “catching away” and the coming of Christ in great glory, we should pray to be given the ability to “stand, and above all to stand”!
I was never sure about the terms Contemplative Spirituality since God desires an inward truthfulness and the courage to examine onself in the claity of his word...there is a fair amount of introspection and contemplation that goes along with that. One “works out ones salvation with fear and trembling” as the scripture states so I would gather that that sort of “contemplation” should be healthy for all of us from time to time.
Some people here live to urinate all over anything anyone else does for God.
Anytime anyone does anything in any corner of the globe that makes any Christians happy, some here will attack it with lunatic ferocity and make themselves feel oh so spiritually superior.
Honey - all of our stories are the same! It seems that every person I meet with doctrinally sound ideals is either searching for a church or has just found one after searching.
Our church was beloved to me, and it took a lot of prayer for my husband and I to leave. The two deciding factors were 1) our son - who was soaking everything in...of course including things with which we didn’t agree. He was simply too young to discern (he’s 9, was 8 at the time), and was getting caught up in emotionalism.
And 2) between the new(ish) pastor quoting from “Christian” psychologists, using The Message AS A TRANSLATION - then telling me to be more open minded when I called him on it and soooooo many other things heralding a willful disregard for sound doctrine. We left.
Our new church is doctrinally sound with a pastor who takes his shepherding duties (all of them, not just the buddy-style of the shepherding movement) seriously. We have since discovered great men of God like Washer, Piper and MacArthur in whose expository teachings I am currently reveling. Funny, I’d never heard of them before leaving our other church. I had heard lots of Osteen, Warren and the like though. I even heard Hinn mentioned once - granted from a fellow parishioner, but one whom was held in a place of honor as a woman of God.
< sigh >
I feel so helpless.
