Hello fellow Freepers. I believe this is my first post on the Religion forum.
Over the past week or so, I put some thought into something I've been pondering for a while; my spiritual welfare. As it was, I had been part of the 'Sola Scriptua' school of thought (Evangelical Christian). By the Bible and only the Bible. Sounded good enough.
Well...what about before the Bible was put into word? It stuck in my head when reading an article earlier on FR concerning a deconstruction of Sola Scriptura and its inherent weaknesses as a foundation for one's faith.
This, combined with a genuine lack of churchgoing (as a family, we've been uncertain about going to various churches, given that top-down problems with Episcopal/Methodist/etc. churches and their increasing liberalization are a genuine problem for one's spiritual welfare), compelled me to make a decision.
I don't know if my family will follow me, persay, but I'm going to go ahead and take the plunge.
Next month, I'm going to the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle near my home, and I'm joining the Roman Catholic Church.
As is, I have a few volumes of the Magnificat pamphlet and the Catechism of the Catholic Church to read.
Any other pointers from other Catholic Freepers?
“Ill loan my tagline to you too. No charge.”
Thanks, sweetie, but I’m going to change mine to “Hand over the cheese and no one gets hurt!”
Maybe.
And Evangelicals, Protestants, Lutherans, can do nothing? Amazing. Once again, Bush--er, Catholics' fault.
so don't be surprised when someone leaves one large highly represented group for another that there are people who object to jubilation over winning over a "convert" who was already Christian.
Why would anyone be surprised when sola scriptura evangelical (but otherwise unidentified) protestants fail to rejoice over one of their own beocming Catholic?
Finally someone who understands. Much better than comparing being in a Protestant church to eating with garbage, or saying that all non-Catholics are living in sin. The Religion forum needs to have a lot more talk about getting people to believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior, no matter if they end up in a Catholic or Protestant church, and a lot less arguing about misrepresentations of Sola Scriptura and Maryology
Wow that's a huge chip on your shoulder.
Awwww.... what a loving thing to say. (((Thank You)))
I’m thinking St. Therese of Lisieux was one of those voices:)
(((TAZ)))
There... fixed that for you. England, Germany, the Scandinavian Nations, and the Netherlands, all of which are largely Protestant, are crumbling as well; indeed some faster than the historically Catholic countries. France, the Eldest Daughter of the Church, has been sickly for centuries, but only after the Revolution. Spain suffers under the scourge of the socialists. Fervently Catholic Poland has weathered the storm better than most.
Not that Catholics don't need to take some blame... but it isn't just us.
Was that on THIS thread?
I never had the idea that Catholics hated Protestants until I came to the Religion forum on FR.
Some people, when they don't like hearing the truth, attack the messenger.
Have a lovely day. :D
If that is your criteria, you might as well become Jewish. After all, they're the first to put everything in writing; all the way to Paul, Peter, John and the rest. If memory serves me correctly, the only non-Jewish writer of scripture was Luke.
Personally, I'm not comfortable with knelling before statues or praying to anyone other than God. Of course Isaiah and Jeremiah was unsuccessful at convincing the people not to do that, so I certainly am not going to convince people.
I beg to differ.
This particular confusion stems from the fact that a Roman Catholic, Judith Anne, has said she "bows only to Christ."
And yet I've never known a Roman Catholic who has not bowed to Mary or to a saint, as you yourself have proudly announced.
Thus the confusion of a Roman Catholic saying one thing, but (perhaps) doing another.
And is it ever possible for a RC poster NOT to accuse others of "hating the Catholic church" and "spreading lies about it" when we are merely in discussions about various theology points on which we disagree?
There... fixed that for you.
Holy cow, I was trying to encourage a Catholic in their belief and I get assaulted for not including absolutely everyone responsible for the fall of Western Europe. I know that Protestant Christians need to stand up, but I wasn't addressing one.
Since this is another open thread and it's a thread about the Roman Catholic church set against evangelical churches, it's pertinent to know who bows to what.
So let's ask the question here on this RC thread.
Do you bow to Mary or saints, Judith Anne?
Making things personal, and bringing in material from another thread are considered very bad form on the Religion Forum. Sooner or later, the moderator will see it.
My apologies. I wasn’t trying to assault, only to remind that we’re ALL in it concerning Europe... and America.
Oh, Protestants are pretty much entirely to blame for the USA's slow slide into paganism. The statistics are miserable.
That game, and the program that goes with it, have been well elucidated on this thread already.
I won’t be playing.
See my post 439.
:D
