What do Mormons believe?

Reading all of these threads about Mormonism, I am utterly confused about what Mormonism is, exactly. What is all of this stuff about Jews coming to America in 600 BC? What is the Book of Abraham and why is Abraham writing in Egyptian Hieroglyphs? What does the book of Mormon? What is the storyline of it?

I am confused as to what all of the Mormon writings are about, and how it is all put together theologically.

Please explain.

Interesting website, but this thread asks what is Mormonism, not what heartburns people have about the real or perceived hypocrisies of mainstream Christianity.

I’m sure that you will agree, it was the correct answer since it came from the Holy Spirit...

From my understanding unless it was a 'burning in your bosom', it doesn't count.

I know Mormons are followers of Joseph Smith who believe they have “restored” the Christianity of the New Testament, but I am trying to learn what exactly is in the book of Mormon.

Skeptics and most archeologists believe that the Book of Mormon is a hoax, and that it was written in the early 19th century by Joseph Smith or some other individual(s). There are no proofs, but there are some really strong indicators.
Who Wrote the Book of Mormon?

You can also check out The official website of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

This site also contains the Book of Mormon, which you can read. Book of Mormon

As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, we believe that the Book of Mormon is a second testament of Jesus Christ. Let me know if you have any questions, and I will answer them. Thanks for asking.

What was that experience exactly? From everything I have come to understand from the holy scriptures, the spirit does not testify of evil or darkness, but just the opposite. It testifies of light and truth.

Millions have received a witness of light and truth.

What was your experience exactly?

Oh, yes, I am telling the truth.

You WISH I weren’t, or HOPE I’m not - but I am telling the truth. - I’m sure if you look hard enough in the Mormon library or in the reams of Mormon dogma, you will find it. Like the secret underwear, this is not widely discussed, I am sure.

You know very well that all these converting wives of “unbelieving” husbands who refuse Mormonism are slated to belong to the fine, upstanding Mormon men in the NEXT LIFE.

The ‘Burning in the bosom’ experience, you know the one where you Mormons say THAT is the sign that Mormonism is true. Well I’m no expert on the Holy Spirit, but He does seem to be making His rounds into all religious denominations from what I can glean so I guess either the Holy Spirit is confused or all religious denominations are the way to the ‘Truth and the Light’.

Actually, you are not far off. The BoM was a plagarized and added-to version of Solomon Spaudling’s “Manuscript Found”. The religous content was added by one Sidnney Rigdon as he had been recently cast out of the Campbellites.....a great deal of the doctrine of the Mor_ons is Campbellite belief that Rigdon was unable to pary into wealth for himself. The whole thing is an absolute hoax...a con game to make money, but there are still those today that buy it hook, line, and sinker....very sad.

I guess they have nothing else to stand on.

You’ll answer any question? Now, that would be refreshing.

Which of the six or so “First Vision” accounts do you personally believe?

the spirit does not testify of evil or darkness, but just the opposite. It testifies of light and truth.
__________________________________________________

“it” cant “testify” about something “it” knows nothing about...

If your “spirit” doesnt know right from wrong and is so wimpy, then I would not rely upon “it” to tell you any “truth”

After all “it” doesnt know any unless it is “light and truth”...and how could “it” tell ????

So you can get into a lot of trouble hanging around “it”

But the Holy Spirit that I know is well able to warn me about the things of the devil (those evil and darkness things)

Because Jesus sent HIM...

Jhn 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send HIM unto you.

Jhn 16:8 And when HE is come, HE will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

Jhn 16:9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;

Jhn 16:10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

Jhn 16:11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

Jhn 16:12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

Jhn 16:13 Howbeit when HE, the Spirit of truth, is come, HE will guide you into all truth: for HE shall not speak of HIMSELF; but whatsoever HE shall hear, [that] shall HE speak: and HE will shew you things to come.

Jhn 16:14 HE shall glorify Me: for HE shall receive of Mine, and shall shew [it] unto you.

Jhn 16:15 All things that the Father hath are Mine: therefore said I, that HE shall take of mine, and shall shew [it] unto you.

Well, since you asked, we believe that Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of God. Much of the other stuff on this thread is posted by rabid anti-mormons that even lie about that.

There, you have two things that this LDS person believes.

Over thirty years ago, back when Mormon missionaries were in every little town riding their bicycles everywhere and handing out “Books of Mormon” and seeking converts, two of them came to my home. They talked with me briefly and left two books, one I probably wasn’t really supposed to see(but, I am very diplomatic and people tend to confide in me). I learned the most from the book which was probably only supposed to be seen by missionaries and not the general public. This happened and is not a figment of my imagination.

Do I think they were not *really* Mormon missionaries? Not for a moment do I doubt they were - clean cut, blond, white shirts and black pants and ties, “Books of Mormon”, the works.

That’s where I got that “idea”.
