What do Mormons believe?
none ^ | 05-27-08 | myself

Posted on 05/27/2008 10:29:48 AM PDT by ChurtleDawg

Reading all of these threads about Mormonism, I am utterly confused about what Mormonism is, exactly. What is all of this stuff about Jews coming to America in 600 BC? What is the Book of Abraham and why is Abraham writing in Egyptian Hieroglyphs? What does the book of Mormon? What is the storyline of it?

I am confused as to what all of the Mormon writings are about, and how it is all put together theologically.

Please explain.

I thought that might be the case. :-)

There is an online copy of the Book of Mormon here:

He’d LIKE to be....

He WANTS to be...

He is unwilling that ANY should perish...

But, even God Himself doesn’t get what He wants either....

Sadly many are going to CHOOSE death over salvation...

Good post !!

If that is your intent, and all you want is to know what the narrative says, it's all online, chapter by chapter, verse by verse.

Here ya go. Pretty easy to access, and free to all.

Good. Then read this:

I believe in Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God.

Salvation of the soul, yes, not available to all. But salvation from death? Yes, all men will be restored to their physical bodies to stand before God and be judged according to their works. In that sense, Salvation is available to all. It's what we refer to as immortally. Eternal life is another matter.

“Oh death, where is thy sting, oh grave, where is thy victory?”
1 Cor. 15:55

CC, I do love you. You are amusing. Of course, I don’t believe the vast majority of the things you post and I probably would not like you if I had ever made your acquaintence, but I do love you.

I should correct myself. Salvation IS available to all, but not accepted by all.

However, the resurrection is for all, through the gift of Christ, and all men will be restored to flesh and bone at the final judgment.

Well, you Mormons make this sound like all "resurrections" are these great hunky-dory degree-of-glory thing. (That's not what Christ said):

Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation. (John 5:28-29)

I'm sorry, but "the resurrection of damnation" (John 5:29) is in no way a "degree of glory" that is part of the banner of heaven or eventual heaven.

(Only Mormons would view "damnation" as a, how did you you define it again, sevenbak? Oh yeah, a "gift of Christ")

Reading does not always get you the answers you're looking for, and/or you may not feel like reading through all the material or have the time for it, so if thats the case for you as was surely the case for me check out this guy's T.V. show off his website, he was caught up in the Mormon system for 40 years before escaping. He has devoted his weekly T.V. show to exposing the 'truth' about Mormonism so that other Mormons might be 'awakened'

He has 3 years of archived broadcasts for you review that are quite informative and enlightening, also takes calls during the show from both Mormons and ex-Mormons as he broadcasts from the belly of the Mormon beast, Salt Lake City. It's everything you ever wanted to know about Mormons and then some.

I really wanted to know what the narrative of the book of Mormon is.

***

If you are truly sincere the Holy Spirit will witness to you!

Before I received my witness I was not to sure about the Book of Mormon either.

But when I let go and let God and was I joyfully surprised and found the answer to my quest of over 18 years to find the Lord Church on earth.

Wow there it was in the Book of Mormon which testifies to Jesus Christ and another witness and so many pages of the Holy Bible were alive which had laid dorment for years.

3 Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.

4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.

5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.

6 And whatsoever thing is good is just and true; wherefore, nothing that is good denieth the Christ, but acknowledgeth that he is.

7 And ye may know that he is, by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore I would exhort you that ye deny not the power of God; for he worketh by power, according to the faith of the children of men, the same today and tomorrow, and forever.

Yes, that is the doctrine of the LDS as well. All will be judged, according to their works, but they will have their bodies restored to them.

The reason we consider it a gift of Christ is that He has given it to us all. Remember that according to the LDS belief is that an entire 1/3 of the hosts of heaven were thrown out of heaven with Lucifer, and were thus denied that right.

Remember, the bodiless spirits who possessed the swine. They wanted bodies badly enough to do just that. The fact that we have them, and will have them again is truly a gift from God.

Here is further LDS doctrine from the BOM about this topic the resurrection to eternal life and the resurrection to damnation.

Alma 11

40 And he shall come into the world to redeem his people; and he shall take upon him the transgressions of those who believe on his name; and these are they that shall have eternal life, and salvation cometh to none else.
41 Therefore the wicked remain as though there had been no redemption made, except it be the loosing of the bands of death; for behold, the day cometh that all shall rise from the dead and stand before God, and be judged according to their works.
42 Now, there is a death which is called a temporal death; and the death of Christ shall loose the bands of this temporal death, that all shall be raised from this temporal death.
43 The spirit and the body shall be reunited again in its perfect form; both limb and joint shall be restored to its proper frame, even as we now are at this time; and we shall be brought to stand before God, knowing even as we know now, and have a bright recollection of all our guilt.
44 Now, this restoration shall come to all, both old and young, both bond and free, both male and female, both the wicked and the righteous; and even there shall not so much as a hair of their heads be lost; but every thing shall be restored to its perfect frame, as it is now, or in the body, and shall be brought and be arraigned before the bar of Christ the Son, and God the Father, and the Holy Spirit, which is cone Eternal God, to be judged according to their works, whether they be good or whether they be evil.
45 Now, behold, I have spoken unto you concerning the death of the mortal body, and also concerning the resurrection of the mortal body. I say unto you that this mortal body is raised to an immortal body, that is from death, even from the first death unto life, that they can die no more; their spirits uniting with their bodies, never to be divided; thus the whole becoming spiritual and immortal, that they can no more see corruption.

I believe that Jesus Christ is my personal Savior and that He is the Savior of the whole world. I am a Mormon.

Do you believe that Jesus and Satan were brothers? Do you believe that a man can become a god? Do you believe that God wqas once a man?

Mormonism teaches all those things, and they are certainly not Christian beliefs.

No. You don’t have it right. . . and, yes, the original polygamus men who ruled the Mormon church, men who Mormons still nearly worship today WERE lecherous and controlling.

_____________________________________________

I dont know if my being sincere or not had anything to do with it...

But the Holy Spirit “witnessed” to me that the book of mormon was not of God but was written by a false prophet who had been influenced by the devil...

I’m sure that you will agree, it was the correct answer since it came from the Holy Spirit...
