Yeah, I wish only the good fruits would have matured.

The problem is many of the “fruits” are in our seminaries. JPII worried so much about others he forgot his own flock.

And I’m a Pole. The man was wonderfully spiritual but misguided.

>>But the Church completely collapsed during his pontificate and he did little to nothing to bring it back<<

You’ve got that right!

Remember this Pope helped bring many young people to faith in God.

That is what all Popes (and bishops and priests) are supposed to do.

I find this a bit bizarre, not to say unseemly and “enthusiastic”.

Agreed.

I declare to you that John Paul II shall be beatified DD/MM/YYYY (where DD is the date, MM is the month and YYYY is the year).

Of this there can be no doubt.

JPII blazed a trail so that Benedict XVI and our bishops and priests can do so. Thank him.

Thank him because with the liberation of Eastern Europe Christians are allowed to worship freely once again.

A great man, heroic to Catholics and protestants alike.

“Thank him because with the liberation of Eastern Europe Christians are allowed to worship freely once again.”

As we should certainly also thank Ronald Reagan.

JPII blazed a trail so that Benedict XVI and our bishops and priests can do so.

All faithful priests, bishops, and popes throughout history have led Catholics to greater holiness and ultimately to heaven. That is not a trail blazed by JPII and is not a definitive criterion for canonization.

As a general proposition, he was not particularly well thought of among Orthodox people, from hierarchs on down. It was precisely this personality cult, what we saw as his showman style and frankly his distinctly un-Orthodox, rather loose theology which turned us off. That said, I oubt his personal holiness wasn’t doubted. You know what we think of +BXVI.

I didn't know the Orthodox felt that way about JP2. And what do they think of B16?

“And what do they think of B16?”

Many are of the opinion, I among them, that we are seeing the first true Father of The Church in near 700 years.

I like B-16 for his mind, and while I could appreciate the power of JP2's charisma, intellect always impresses me a whole lot more.

allowed the smoke of Satan into our seminaries

Since 'the smoke of Satan' entered our seminaries in the late 1950's, 1960's and early 1970's, I don't see what a priest, later bishop, in Poland could have done about it.

I do agree with you about Benedict's mind! A shrewd man, a fine balance to his good friend. If John Paul opened the gates of the Church fully, then Benedict is reminding us to tend it properly.
