>>I think the RCC doctrines are a product of the enemy<<

Please tell us where we stand here. Examples welcome, but I'm not sure that actual names can be used when quoting another FReeper, so date and thread title may be better.

At one time, I didn’t, for various reasons, but mainly Mary & the Saints.

At this time I have come to the postion that if one claims to be a Christian (yes, even Bill & Hill), even if I cannont agree with their doctrines, then when did God appoit me to make those judgements? So, I am willing to accept people at their word that they are, or are not.

Doesn’t mean that I can’t judge either their behavior or their doctrine.

But, for me, the only criterion to be a Christian is to have accepted Christ as your personal Savior. All else is non-essential even if important.

well, these threads may cause discord among some, but even the Apostle Paul went and “reasoned” with some of the other religious leaders....

If one is open minded, then these threads could serve as a learning experience and people could share knowledge instead of fight. Besides, who can argue with facts....? (besides liberals...)

“Ye must be born again”, of course that means “reincarnation” to some

The RCC is part of the Christian family tree.

The creeds are, as they always were, The Apostles Creed, the Nicene Creed, and then there's the Definition of Chalcedon and the Athanasian Creed .

Then there are the non-ecumenical creeds used only by one major group.

Once printing was invented, and books became cheap, the creeds were less necessary to the faithful in the development of an understanding of Christian belief.

All that matters: Do you believe in Him? Do you admit you are flawed (a sinner)? Do you truly repent (which involves admission and trying to do better) and ask Him for redemption? The rest is detail. Important detail to be sure, but detail nonetheless. At least that is how I see it.

For the record, I’m Catholic - that is my path to Him because I chose to belong to the Church of Peter, flawed as it is or was due to mankind’s involvement. Then again, NO church is perfect because churches involve people, and as we are all flawed (as sinners, He being the sole exception), so must be our institutions.

You are hell bound, generally speaking, yes, by the fact of your being separated brethren.

LOL. AnalogReigns, aren't you sorry you asked?

And now that you have asked, you can't even offer up the excuse nobody told you so.

“Ted Kennedy? Nancy Pelosi? Give me a break!”

They would be apostate heretics in any true Christian sect.

The vast vast majority of Christians I have met know that Catholics are Christians. In fact, I would expect that same vast vast majority to find the question quite silly.

I think that is the most accurate description of the state of things. At the Great White Throne Judgment there is going to be two lines. Those who have Christ and those that do not.

I personally know many Catholics who are Christians. So yes they can be.

I own a concordance. It tells me where a word is found. If “Strong’s Concordance” includes other information, then it’s also a commentary.

I think they are Undead. I read a novel a while back in which the characters discussed the familiar type of ghost, a spirit appearing when the body is in the grave; and a second type of ghost, the body walking around while the soul is in Hell, and I thought, "Of course - Ted Kennedy."

"You will know they are Christians by their love."

Where is that vrese found in Scripture? Christ said something much more comprehensive...

"Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them." -- Matthew 7:16-20

Actually, I’ve always doubted that Protestants and Evangelicals are Christians. At least if you have a narrow definition. Problem is, all definitions are so narrow as to be hateful. Whatever happened to faith, hope, and love?

All of this wrangling has sent me out of the church, any and every church, shaking my head. In disbelief.

7/12/07—B-16 on Protestants: (google Pope Benedict XVI on non Catholics)

“These separated churches and communities,THOUGH WE BELIEVE THEY SUFFER FROM DEFECTS,are deprived neither of significance nor importance (how white of him) in the mystery of salvation.”

Even as a defective Christian and not a ‘true” Christian like the Bishop of Rome,I still forgive him.
