Pastor John Hagee of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas, wrote a letter of apology to the Catholic community.
...In so far as some of my past statements regarding the Roman Catholic Church have raised concerns in your community, I am writing in a spirit of respect and reconciliation to clarify my views.
Out of a desire to advance greater unity among Catholics and Evangelicals in promoting the common good, I want to express my deep regret for any comments that Catholics have found hurtful. After engaging in constructive dialogue with Catholic friends and leaders, I now have an improved understanding of the Catholic Church, its relation to the Jewish faith, and the history of anti-Catholicism.

Major breakthrough? John Hagee is a dunce of monumental proportions. The Catholic League should have told Hagee to pound sand.
That’s nice. This is honest dialogue, and I’m glad to see that it appears to have been a rational decision by Hagee.
I live in the South, and I’m used to seeing people recoil in horror when they find I’m a Catholic. But you have to remember that they have been brought up in a culture where politicians -even as late as the 1920s - could run on an announced anti-Catholic platform and spend most of their time attacking the Catholic Church and blacks, and nobody regarded this as a problem in any way! So I think this was actually courageous of Hagee and I respect him for it.
Translation, I don't want to be McCain's Rev. Wright.
That would be impossible, since McCain has never been affiliated with Hagee's church.
How about this:
The Catholic League is a dunce of monumental proportions.
Pastor Hagee should have told them to pound sand.
Some of you people are truly disgusting.
Worse, McCain explicitly said he was "pleased to have the endorsement of Pastor John Hagee" after Hagee had made his anti-Catholic remarks.
I’m as skeptical of this retraction as I would be if Rev. Wright took back what he said. Too convenient.
McCain didn’t just receive Hagee’s endorsement, he welcomed it. Look, both of these pastors are nuts and both deserve to be rejected by the candidates they claim to support (as well as by all good Americans).
Who is or are “you people?” Catholics, or just anyone with a brain who finds dunces like John Hagee to be amongst the lowest forms of scammers?
I’m not Catholic. In fact, I am not Christian. Regardless, John Hagee is an embarrassment to anyone with an ounce of common sense.
However, before I am accused of hating all social and religious conservatives, I will say this as well: I was a fan of, and had the utmost respect for, the late Jerry Falwell. Even when I disagreed with him, I found the man to be a gentleman, true to his heart, as well as an unimpeachable leader for his causes.
Initially....before he knew of Hagee's comments. (Remember, unlike Obama/Wright, McCain was never a member of or in any way affiliated with Hagee's church, so obviously he wouldn't have known what Hagee said). Later McCain strongly distanced himself from any of Hagee's anti-Catholic comments.
both of these pastors are nuts
Hagee at least apologized for his remarks; Wright expanded upon his. I wouldn't toss the two into the same category.
I find that amazing. I have lived in the South my entire life (40 yrs.) and have never seen anyone recoil in horror at Catholicism.
We all have much greater devils to deal with ~ the Democrat party and its vast army of fascist baby killers who want to take away your guns, teach your kids how to put condoms on cucumbers, pump your gasoline back down a hole in the ground, and leave you without air conditioning in summer, heat in winter, and openable windows at other times.
So just be quiet, or save your rage for Obamasama or the Hildabeast.
No, I think the Catholic League would do right by accepting Hagee’s apology. We have to be forgiving if he seems genuinely sincere.
If you persist in thinking of yourself as belonging to the organization being trashed, you are in some very serious spiritual trouble.
Think of the bad people as being, perhaps, Unitarian Universalism run wild and bloated with members beyond all expectation.
There, doesn't that make you feel better already ~ having the Bible, a priori, condemning the evil Liberal Democrat church of bluenoses.
He literally took almost a complete book out of context.
I did some work tracking back all the references to certain things Hagee was supposed to have said to the original source. It was that particular website. I have named it and provided a URL in earlier threads. Just search for HAGEE or CATHOLIC LEAGUE or DONOHUE. All of those names will get you there.
I don't think the Catholic church does enough to educate its members in Revelation. It's highly complex; subject to great variation in interpretation depending on denominational viewpoint, and it's set to happen a long time ago, next week, or far in the future. There's no sense whatsoever to have Catholics lagging behind the Baptists and Pentecostals when it comes to this part of the Bible.
Too bad, there aren't others here who can do the same but then we will always have naysayers amongst us, here and elsewhere.
Since you're not part of the game no one really cares if you agree with Hagee or Falwell, or no one at all. Frankly, I'm all in favor of abandoning the "lost souls" early. If you need a missionary, the Mormons provide them 24/7.
