There are so many things wrong with this "Scenario" you are proposing:
- Joseph was planning to die just to prove he was a prophet? (kind of a one way thing you know?)
- If he's a grifter as the term goes this is a singularly bad plan. (you can't profit from this irrevocable move)
- Suicide By Cop would be resisting arrest, Joseph didn't.
- The police have a responsibility to protect prisoners.
- The mob that murdered Joseph Smith in cold blood intended to do just that, they said so after he was incarcerated.
- The mob that took the Carthage jail thought they were attacking unarmed men, yet they had guns aplenty and were firing long before fire was returned.
- The mob propped Joseph up against the well outside the building and continued to shoot him, (these are not the actions of people who would not shoot an unarmed man.)
IMHO your statement betrays much...
The false prophet Joseph Smith had been in and out of jail several times since 1826...
He had done some real nasty stuff to lots of people for the past 20 myears...
His own folowers were among the crowd....
He spent his time in jail this time getting drunk on wine ...
He had a gun...
And knew how to use it..
Martyrs dont kill other men..
Martyrs dont organize “Danites”..
He was not a martyr...
The guy’s been dead for 160 years...
Much has bewen exposed about him in that time..
His life and attitude was one of an arrogant, unGodly tyrant..
He chose to die that way...
He had a responsibility to live as a decent law abiding man and husband to one wife...
But he refused to do so...
