[Catholic Caucus] Free Electronic Bible Resources for Catholics

Some of you may be aware of my recent thread about Bible translation preferences.
On that thread that I was introduced to a freeware Bible study program called eSword. It is available here at no cost (Windows only). It comes with the King James Version and Strongs built in, but seems to be unbelievably expandable.
For instance, I have added to mine:
- The Douay-Rheims Challoner Bible
- Haydock's Commentaries (in a rough "0.2" work-in-progress form)
- The Catholic Encyclopedia of 1899
- The Catechism of the Catholic Church
- The Baltimore Catechism
- Summa Theologicae
...and probably is still more out there that I've yet to find. I'm focusing on public domain resources, and it seems that almost everything public domain has been made available in this format. Non-public-domain resources are available too, some at no or low cost.

I wanted to share this amazing resource with my Catholic friends and have thus made this a Catholic Caucus thread. There are far more resources available for Reformed/Baptist/Protestant folks, and those who want to post about those resources here WITHOUT getting into theological debate or contention are welcome to do so.

Come and see these amazing free resources for religious study! Lots of things are available on the internet, but these resources are self-contained and work even where internet access is not available. Truly a great blessing for us and all Christians of any denomination.
Please apply pinglists liberally.
I’ll be happy to help anyone with the technical aspects of installation.

There are many many writings of Luther available. Any google search for the desired term and “esword” will yield many automatically.

The beauty of the eSword way of doing this that I wanted to stress is that it does not require an internet connection and, further, indexes the various resources together.
Clicking on a verse of the bible calls up related information in the other resources. It’s really very elegant.

The ad up top was inviting me to "Meet Apostolic Women".
OK.
They looked cute enough, and all ... just young enough that they could be my daughters.

E-sword is awesome! I’ve been using it for a couple of years now. I probably have twenty different bibles installed, though I generally use the 1899 Douhay Reims version.
I also have installed (all free) several dictionaries, maps and commentaries.
E-sword is free, though donations are accepted... much like FR.

My favorite resource for all sorts of Catholic info is the Catholic Encyclopedia at

There is also the Sword Project,
http://www.crosswire.org/index.jsp, which has software for both Windows and Linux. GnomeSword and BibleTime, the latter is KDE, are both very good tools which use this library.
There is a large selection of Bible texts available in many languages, as well as commentaries, lexicons, devotionals, maps and so on. My only complaint has been that the Challoner Bible is renumbered incorrectly to follow that used by the AV and others, but that is not a huge problem. E-Sword was, at least in the past, better for Windows users as it had a few more features, but if you don't have that option then the Sword Project is certainly a very good way to go. And it is GPL, which makes it free in every proper sense of the word.
