Have evangelicals abandoned the Religious Right for a more moderate center? Some say yes.

Mr. McLaren says global poverty, destruction of the environment and increasing violence in the world must be addressed and calls for the church to "change its framing story" and to start trying to change public opinion in these areas. He launched a tour called "Everything Must Change" and is currently traveling throughout the country rallying support.

Well-known liberal evangelical Jim Wallis called evangelicals the swing voters in '08. Not everybody agrees with his statement, but political analysts do a note a shift. Some religious voters, particularly the younger set, have changed their affiliation from Republican to independent. Nobody wants to be taken for granted in this election cycle.

Jim Wallis and Brian McLaren are not Christians, they are liberation theologians.
I know but funny how many people can’t seem to differentiate!
They hold a form of godliness but deny the power thereof.
Elmer Gantry’s
No, they are not charlatans. The real tragedy is they really believe their false social gospel and lead many astray.
I was listening to various clips of Hinn, Copeland and others yesterday on a show that was focusing on false teachers. It was almost hilarious if not so dangerous to hear the outright lies they were spewing.
Stuff like: we are all gods, Adam was a god and could fly and to the moon even, man( Adam ) kicked God off of the earth, Jesus went to hell after he died a physical and spiritual death, Paul was rich and paid bribes all over the ME, and the famous death curses on their detractors.
I know what you mean. But we’ve got to pray for all of them.
“Adam was a god and could fly and to the moon even, man( Adam ) kicked God off of the earth.”: Sounds like Mormonism

Did you notice this?
“change its framing story”
Straight out of George Lakoff’s “secular humanist bible”.
google “lakoff framing”
The thing is, the Bible, God’s Word, clearly refutes every liberal “social gospel” position,
from “he who will not work, nor shall he eat”
to “teach a man to fish”
to “thou shalt not covet”
and all people are sinners and should not be given more power over others than necessary, as it will cause them to sin more.
“The thing is, the Bible, Gods Word, clearly refutes every liberal social gospel position”
Therein lies the proof that God is not a Marxist. The Bible’s social teaching emphasizes people to be personally responsible, compassionate, ethical, merciful and just. You do not need a government to do such things because it robs believers of God’s work within us to show Christ in all aspects of our lives.
Here’s a great article that I’ve pointed a lot of folks to:
Universal Healthcare: Unbiblical Socialism

Seeing as how American "Christians" can even take the Goracle, Oprah the New Ager, and Wallis as even close to the gospel..that's some major Biblical ignorance going on. I'm wondering if just turning over these past few generations to others to teach and indoctrinate is finally bearing its sad fruit.
Man is always ready to glorify himself. This is why children of the living God are called to die to self.
The real problem is just plain old laziness which has lead to this.
Guess that depends on how you define 'evangelical.' Some churches call themselves that, but what they are really evanglizing about is the liberal agenda, not the gospel. I wouldn't consider them evangelical.
Universal Healthcare is the ultimate nanny state entitlement. Any attempts by the government to do this must be destroyed at all costs.
You and me both but too many people are hoodwinked into believing evangelicalism is what much of Christendom claims it to be now. It used to be about sticking to the Word!
