Don’t be so hard on them. I doubt any of us would have done any better. They turned out okay in the end. Hopefully we will too!

Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go. This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.

I take it then that you observe all the laws of the Torah? What about Matthew, Mark, Luke, etc.. These books were not in existance when this passage was written.

...as does Proverbs 30:5-6 and Timothy 3:15-16 and Mark 7:13 and Matthew 22:29 and...

But keep in mind that this article is From Catholic Apologetics, which is a fine journal, but could be expected to view this Protestant doctrine about as favorably as SBC Life would the doctrine of papal infallibility.

They were extremely falable,., to the end.. Hand me down apostles would probably be worse.. not haveing first hand experience with Jesus.. That is if even they were apostles in the first place.. Calling yourself an "apostle" don't make you one(mattias).. or even if others title you..

I Tim 4:1The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons. 2Such teachings come through hypocritical liars, whose consciences have been seared as with a hot iron. 3They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving, 5because it is consecrated by the word of God and prayer.
6If you point these things out to the brothers, you will be a good minister of Christ Jesus

I grew up in the catholic church an in my experience, the church places itself first, Mary second and Jesus last. The Holy Spirit is an after thought. I have seen the church do a lot of good, but then I have seen the United Way do a lot of good too. The NFL players association does wonderful work too. Having said that, I have seen a lot more bad than good from the church and Jesus said, “by their fruit you will recognize them.”

I guess if I were in a religion that was so damned by the scriptures I would want to minimize their importance too. I don't blame you for that. In fact, if I were the devil himself, I wouldn't want people following scripture or even reading it. I would much rather the people listen to well intending people who were blind guides.

What it boils down to is the arrogance of proclaiming man and God as equals. That's what you do when you say the church is superior to the scriptures.

The church is made up of people, sinners in need of salvation. All your pope's, bishops and priests were frail sinful men who were and are deserving of death. There is nothing special or sacred about any of your holy men. They are no different from the rest of us. Why would I allow a blind man to lead me in to a pit? Mary's blood cant forgive sin no matter what your scholars write. She was just as awful and sinful as the rest of us. The bible tells me this. And when the bible and the church contradict, you throw out the word of God for the sake of your traditions. You honor God with your lips but your hearts are far from him, your teachings are simply rules taught by men.
These are not my revelations, it's right there in the bible....the words you work so diligently to minimize.

No but I understand when God says to honor scripture and says nothing of honoring traditions.

1. The Doctrine of Sola Scriptura is not taught anywhere in the Bible

Neither is the Trinity or the Creeds.

The whole debate is disingenuous. Luther did not really advocate 'Scriptures alone', he advocated that Scriptures were the highest authority and should be open to the masses to read.

Good Point. BTW, your tag line has an error, the Chinese bombed Pearl Harbor.

You said: Neither is the Trinity or the Creeds.

You are absolutely correct. They came out of Sacred Tradition as infallibly taught by the Church.

Sola Scriptura, on the other hand, is a false tradition created by man which has no basis in either Sacred Scripture or Sacred Tradition.

Good post. Have you ever read the apocrypha? I have, and from what I remember reading, it definitely has a different spirit than the Holy Bible. The saying “cleanliness is next to godliness.” comes from there.

"What possible reason would you have to place an asterisk in the name Jesus?"

The same reason for doing so with b*ddha, th*rsday, and any other use of the name of a false "gxd." May their names speedily disappear from the earth!

I know you didn't just get on FreeRepublic and call Jesus a false god. Are you stupid or just insane?

Maybe you didn't read the stunning prophecy of the passion and death of Our Lord in Wisdom chapter 2, then.

The saying “cleanliness is next to godliness.” comes from there.

That's news to me.

"Joshua" and "Jesus" are the same name. "Joshua" is English from Hebrew. "Jesus" is English from Greek from Hebrew.

Your zeal to deface "Jesus" is going to clash with your zeal to preserve the Torah, because the name of that "false god" appears many, many times in Torah.

I don't believe that he's either stupid or insane. Misguided, perhaps.

If one is theistic, and not Christian, one must perforce believe (however erroneously) that Jesus is not God.

This is a free country. I disagree very strongly with his religious beliefs. I defend his right to hold them, and to express them (politely) without being called ugly names or having his personal integrity besmirched.

Interesting, since 3/4 of the Old Testament quotes attributed to Jesus in the New Testament come from the “Apocrypha”. Since He did not reject them I won’t.
