More than once during these talks I referred to Luther and what always occurred to me as his destructive influence. I pointed out that even in such an admirable book as Rohan Butler's The Roots of National Socialism the spiritual origins of Nazism and Luther's influence had not been given the necessary importance. Then I was asked if I would be prepared to elaborate to themabout a dozen of the very senior boys, that ismy own views on Luther and Lutheranism. I agreedwith the proviso that they would be my own views and nothing else. Admittedly, I had read more on Luther and about Luther than on most other subjects. But I wanted to make it quite clear that I would not speak to them with the voice of a great authority, but would merely give them my own interpretation. I told them, moreover, that I should try to prove how dangerous it is to accept legends; and that the picture I had of Luther and his influence was thoroughly contradictory of the customary Luther of the legend.

Wow. That says a lot...
So did at least one English Prime Minister. So? He was chief of state. FDR shook Stalin's hand, too, and Stalin murdered more people than Hitler by far.
And you've posted a picture showing that some Catholic clerics gave the (legally obligatory) "German greeting".
Yep, that's true also.
I'll go you one better. There were Catholic priests who were ardent, firm, convinced, Jew-hating NAZIS.
But to claim that that somehow indicts Pius XII is to fall into the fallacy of false generalization.
You had the opportunity to present The Gospel and you wouldn't do it. None of the other RC posters I asked did it either. I understand because so much of what has been added over the years by your magesterium and Popes contradicts The Gospel.
It's okay though, all you have to do is believe and everything else will fall into place.
Yeah, so does this:
Good evening Mr. Cornwell.
The man that forced the Prussian Union by the force of law was a very twisted individual. Fredrick had some rather occultic tastes (which seemed to be a family trait), and was really more interested in astrology than Christianity.
As an aside, the Prussian Union was one reason my family came to the US.
It's amazing all the whining about John Hagee's comments when trash like this is posted by Catholics.
So you get upset when Protestants post trash right?
THANKS THANKS.
Says who? I'm happy to do it, but my Gospel has a little more meat on it than your three sentence slogan.
It's okay though, all you have to do is believe and everything else will fall into place.
That's just really sad.
I don't think even Luther would recognize or endorse your easy-believism Gospel.
Tell me this. In Romans 1:5, Paul writes that he has received grace and apostleship to bring about the "obedience of faith" among all the nations. In Romans 16:26, at the very end of the book he sounds the same note "the revelation of the mystery ... made known to all nations ... to bring about the obedience of faith".
What is the "obedience of faith"?
Don't say, "it's faith". If Paul had meant just "faith," meaning merely the mental acceptance of a set of doctrinal propositions, he would have said so.
You are being cheated. We have the endless riches of the fullness of the true Gospel. You are entitled to it, it's your rightful inheritance, and you don't even want it. That's what Luther has done for you.
“It speaks volumes when The Gospel is presented you mock it, or say it’s not enough.”
“You condemn yourselves looking for that little extra.”
Nobody mocked it or even said it’s not enough. The teachings of Jesus Christ are obviously a central point for any Christian. But his response was meant to guide you to the entire Bible. By that same line of reasoning, the Traditions of the early Church as set up by Christ prior to the Bible being written is also part of Christ’s teachings and Church.
I could very well say that you condemn yourselves for not accepting all of the Christ’s teachings and Church, but I won’t condemn you or judge you. I will invite you to pray on these things and read and invite you to come Home to the Church Christ built for us.
Ja, aber nicht für unser Deutscher, nicht wahr? :-)
Fröhliche Ostern!
I think the Prussians were the main reason my family came to the US. ;-)
The 1870's and 1880's were not a happy time for Catholics in Germany.
I didn't mock the Gospel but rather your catch phrase evangelism. Just because someone doesn't come up with the exact catch phrase you are looking for does not mean that they do not know the Gospel. And it was noted that you've changed the goal post for the catch phrase that you are promoting (after you were corrected by Catholics on another thread that the phrase "Christ crucified" is not the sum total of the entire Gospel message, which also includes Christ's forgiveness of sin for salvation, Christ's resurrection, and the eventual return of Christ).
It is ok if you want to stick with a catch phrase, just don't expect all Christians to regurgitate your preferred catch phrase on command as a benchmark for knowing the Gospel.
“Well, youve made two errors.
1) You meant 1870, not 1860.
2) Germany did exist, but as a series of principalities within the Holy Roman Empire.”
Actually it was 1871 if quibbling over details is your thing.
Although I don’t think it is, since you have Martin Luther
being a German Nationalist a mere 324 years before there was a Germany.
Your admirable attempt the make the German princes of the Holy Roman Empire into the “German Nation” is impressive,
but I’m sure the idea would have been eye-opening to them since they routinely warred with each other.
But what the heck, a few inconvenient details like that deserve to be ignored when they get in the way of a good story.
You do know that was a salute used by Christians before it was adopted by the Nazis, don’t you?
Pacelli as Pope never met with Hitler.
No, it says nothing. It insinuates a lot, which is the purpose.
