Holt ministry celebrates its love of God - and beer
March 3, 2008

Riverview Community Church in Holt Michigan has a unique ministry, brewing beer.

"For anyone who likes talking about God with a quality brew in their hand."

This ministry is called RiverBrew and it is billed as a place where believers can come “to worship God through appreciation of his creation”, "to be an environment welcoming of questions and discussion about faith and Jesus" and “to resume the Church’s historical role as making the finest beer in town,” as the group’s Web site puts it.

I came across this article in the Lansing State Journal, which cannot be posted here at FR.

Here is a link to LJS article.

Nothing wrong with talking about God with a brew in your hand. It’s just that church isn’t the place to do it.

My kind of Church! :)

It's 4:19 PM right now and I am well into my first bottle of Sam Adams Black Lager.

“to worship God through appreciation of his creation”,

Amen.

Hops, malted barely, yeast, water. ....all worthy of appeciation, especially if expertly combined and brewed.

I haven't tried that one yet. But I do have a Smithwick's waiting for me when I get home.

I think it was Benjamin Franklin who said that beer is prove of God's love for us - (or something to that effect)

THE BAD CATHOLIC’S GUIDE
to Wine, Whiskey & Song

Full of stories of wines, beers and liquors made around the world by monks, this A to Z guide begins with Absinthe, ends with Zinfandel, and covers everything in between. Merges irreverence and piety in a romp through Catholic history, ideas and humor — a combination bartender's guide, party planner and screwball catechism. This book is great fun! B&W photos & illustrations. Paperback, 404 pages.

This might be enough to get me back in church.

Lord knows beer has been responsible for some religious experiences in the past....

Any suggestions?

Why not? The best beer in Belgium (and hence in the world) is made by Trappist monks.

If you wish to try your hand at brewing something truly exotic try to make metheglin or melomel. Nothing like having your friends over for a "meth party."

Cool. Wonder if they’ll let me bring my orange slices in? :-) Should I leave my “whore of Babylon” badge at home? :-)
