If you are really interested, Mormons believe a number of things that aren’t exactly in line with other Christians. One biggie, read the last page of your Bible. See where it says that in effect “this is the end of the book, there isn’t any more coming so don’t look for it” and even more any one who claims to have more is wrong. Here is where Mormons start to deviate significantly from Christianity.

I’m really interested. Joseph Smith was a liar and a charlatan of the highest order. Anyone who believes he is a prophet is just not being honest. He didn’t translate plates infallibly given to him by the Angel Moroni(Moron comes from that). He used the King James Old Testament as a template and plagiarized it this has been proven through textual analysis and is not really debatable. He was a phony and the book of Mormon is phony. Setting it beside the bible is apostasy of the religion of Christ and replacing it with a cut and paste fiction put together by a small and petty man not a degree different than a modern conman.

It is truly sad that so many very good people have fallen to such silliness. The church should just excise the disease of Smith and purify itself.

There were others like Smith who did not succeed:

LOL

this was written in the Old World by people who hadn't a clue that the "New" World even exhisted - let alone was populated by millions, with cities that stunned the Conquistadores = who related that the cities were more magnificent than anything they had ever seen in the the Old World.

Now, these continents WERE here, these peoples WERE here. Do you think God didn't know about these continents/people?

Since we are all born children of God - and since He created the Universe, even this tiny globe we call home - I suspician He not only knew, but cared about them also.

The Book of Mormon is little more than the History of God's/Jesus' teachings and dealings with His children on this side of the pond...as the Bible is the history of the same in the Old World.

The Mormons do not replace the Bible with the Book of Mormon, they study and revere them both, equally.

They worship Jesus as the Savior, First Begotten Son, Redeemer, Christ.

Let's nor forget that "Mormon" is but a knitname others started using way back when and the name of the church is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints."

For those who genuinely wonder what the religion is about and what they believe, a good place to start would be at their web site:

http://lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=e419fb40e21cef00VgnVCM1000001f5e340aRCRD

Another place of quite a thorough window to the Mormons is the BYU channel - on TV - but be careful on both the web site and the TV channel for if you are someone convinced you know all about the church and what they do/do not believe, and you therefore don't need to learn anything, these sites are not for you - only for people who are honest enough with themselves to suspicion they might not "Know all there is to know."

The first place it says that in the Bible is in Deuteronomy.

Are we to discard all that is after that?

Oh, yes. Once the Bible was printed all revelation stopped. Got it. We will now have thousands of years without revelation.

Perhaps one should consider that religions like to protect themselves the same way the political parties do.

“Here is where Mormons start to deviate significantly from Christianity.”

What about Catholics - they have “extra” books in their Bible. What about the ancient Scriptures discovered with the Dead Sea Scrolls?

I sure hope this doesn’t turn into another tedious trash the Mormons thread.

If it makes us Mormons feel good to baptize for our dead, why does anyone care - I mean if you think it’s a bunch of hooey - why do you care?

P.S. My husband is watching BYU channel right now and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir (”America’s Choir”) is singing “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” and it is so wonderful.

The last book in the Bible is not the last written manuscript in the Bible.

The Bible is a collection of manuscripts and is not in chronological order!

So each manuscript is a revelation for that particular book not the whole collection!

Are we to disregard everything past that?
