I believe this disqualifies the Caucus protection of this thread.

When I read the word “papists” in the text, I thought the same thing.

The term papist is indeed used.
But if you read the the context of the article the author is refuting the stance of a Reformed father.
He is not using the tern in a current context, but in the context of a historical document.
