COLORADO SPRINGS — Colorado Episcopal Bishop Robert O'Neill announced the removal from the priesthood today of renegade cleric the Rev. Don Armstrong of Grace Church and St. Stephen's Parish.

The Episcopal Diocese's Ecclesiastical Court found Armstrong guilty Sept. 28 of charges that he had stolen or mishandled $550,000 in parish funds.

Armstrong and half or more of his congregation broke away from the Episcopal Church in March, citing theological differences, to become part of a Nigerian-sponsored mission called the Convocation of Anglicans in North America.

Months before the split, the Colorado diocese accused Armstrong of financial theft and mismanagement. This fall, the diocese's court found Armstrong guilty of stealing more than $392,000 in church funds; falsifying taxes by underreporting income; receiving illegal loans; misusing other church funds; and failing to keep proper records.

Armstrong's attorney has said neither the verdict nor being deposed mattered because Armstrong is now an Anglican priest who has been cleared of any financial wrongdoing by an independent audit commissioned by the lay leaders of his parish.

If they have evidence why haven’t they taken it to the proper authorities?

If they turn him in to the IRS they can get a kickback$$$$$$

That is kind of what I was saying.

If they really had anything in the way of proof they would have him in chains already.

That's been my point since the story broke. If they have evidence of wrongdoing, they should call the DA (or the IRS), rather than try him in a kangaroo court.
