How to determine when Joel Osteen is speaking heresy:
Osteen seems like a decent person, but I find your post totally funny.
The Q-man?
Do you mean Quix?
This cat looks like a real charlatan to me.
Wow.
I guess you’ve never been fooled in all of your life?
Me, too. He’s an encourager and God knows we can use some of that these days.
The Q-man?Do you mean Quix?
Who else?
Jim 0216 response: Hmmm, lets take a look.
http://apprising.org/2008/03/arminians-come-out-of-the-seeker-sensitive-movement/ From ARMINIANS COME OUT OF THE SEEKER SENSITIVE MOVEMENT:
Each of these teachers of a false Christianity encourage people, in similar words, to make some kind of a decision to follow the way of God in Jesus.
This is false teaching?
And a good question is: When is the last time you heard this preached by leaders within postevangelcalism and the emerging church?
Every time Osteen preaches he invites people to receive the Lord Jesus into their heart. Joel Osteen's calling is Pastor, primarily helping Christians to grow (v. Whitefield, an Evangelist focussed on the unsaved).
From JOEL OSTEEN CROSSLESS CHRISTIANITY:
UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING RELATED TO THIS CHARGE
So far this site comes up with empty and false charges. Looks like the Pharisees are alive and well on planet earth.
From JOHN OSTEEN AND JOEL OSTEEN:
Osteen is on record as fully endorsing the WOF errant concepts surrounding financial prosperity: Its Gods will for you to live in prosperity instead of poverty. Its Gods will for you to pay your bills and not be in debt. Its Gods will for you to live in health and not in sickness all the days of your life. In the above sermon we can see the Health & Wealth gospel summed up three sentences. So despite the good things that John Osteen did as a Pastor he got ensnared by the subtlety of false teaching and ended up misleading millions before his death.
Have you never read, Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.(3 John 2) As usual, the Pharisees lack knowledge and understanding of God's Word.
So far, the charges leveled at Joel Osteen's message come up empty.
From pillut48: Personally, he gives me the creeps somehow, he's too slick or something, like Mitt Romney...
Jim 0216 response: I don't like him either, but I love his message. So far, I've found his words to be scripturally sound, vibrant, and life-changing, something the Body of Christ needs and the Pharisees and the Devil hates.

Take me off this ping list.
My bad, this is not a ping list.
I came across this old thread and thought you'd be interested in my response. Hope you didn't mind.
I'm finding there's a lot of modern-day Pharisees out there, those of whom Jesus said,
"...they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers...But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for you neither go in yourselves, neither suffer those that are entering to go in...Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, you make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.(Matthew 23:4,13,15)
Beginning to feel angry about those that hate the Gospel of God's grace and try to prevent others from receiving it.
3 John 2 - is equivalent to saying”I hope you’re well” means God’s will is for you to be healthy, but apparently because people are ill there is some reason this cannot happen. Paul had his thorn in the side, 11 of the disciples died a violent death, Job was tested with illness - all against God’s will?
Job said though He slay me yet will I trust Him. Shadrach, Meshack and Abenego said our God is able but even if He does not, we will not fall down and worship the idol. Joseph said you meant this for evil but God used it for good.
Which is the proper interpretation here? God’s will is thwarted or that he sometimes uses illness in our lives to produce character and hope.
>So far, the charges leveled at Joel Osteen’s message come up empty.
uh... you mean the message comes up empty? because that’s what it is.
Define for me the gospel.
Then go find it in his message. Nuff said.
hey how come the picture doesn’t show up for me? Think I can guess though — he has his mouth open, right?
Charlatan and scam artist he may be.. Osteen can at least use capitalization.
That alone adds major points to his Mojo.
Irving's Law has been invoked. Since the thread was already eight months old, and abandoned until you dropped in and pinged the world to your comments, no points are awarded to any party.
Osteen is a charlatan and may not even realize it because he is so successful at being a conman. He may actually believe he's 'doing it for God'. In the end, he's doing it for Joel Osteen just the way another purpose peddling preacher does it.
Osteen’s “gospel” message is one of prosperity. I rarely hear him teaching of salvation, but about “feel good” dymanics. All of these prosperity “Word Faith” televangelists are hypocrites.
Actually a careful reading of this verse includes spiritual health, physical health and financial health. It's an expression of God's heart's desire for us.

God wants us to be happy and healthy but he also allows adversity in our lives for our good. The Bible's (& Joel's) message is that we can maintain a happy, vibrant positive attitude in the midst of pain and suffering because of our faith in a God who loves us and has made us heirs of heaven (Matthew 5:3) and earth (Matthew 5:5). Job is a revelation that God is in control of everything that happens to his people and his purpose is for our blessing & "joy unspeakable and full of glory" (I Peter 1:8). (The end of the book of Job reveals God delivering Job from "sea monsters" in his life that Job himself was unable to deal with (and probably didn't even know existed)).
Which is the proper interpretation here? Gods will is thwarted or that he sometimes uses illness in our lives to produce character and hope.
The thing God wants his people to know is that he is a good God and loves his people with a love that "passes knowledge". I don't believe we can move forward until we're convinced of this. The next thing we need to know is that God is in control of our circumstances. When we put these two things together, we can take all pleasure and pain from the hand of the One who has given us "exceeding great and precious promises" (2 Peter 1:4). That same verse gives a clue as to why we have to suffer: "that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust." God is breaking strongholds of the flesh in our lives so we can be free to live in the release of the spirit. He's willing to suffer with us through our pain because he wants the greater good and blessing for us.
To my surprise, I find I agree with a lot of what you wrote. I don’t think it reflects the position of health, wealth and prosperity teachers.
Sea monsters though huh? I remember the discussion about the leviathon but not much about God saving him from them.
