We have an All Saint's Day party tonight at our RE program, but it is sparsely attended.

I'm going trick or treating with the kids. I see Halloween as a great family and neighborhood time. Sometimes this is the only time I get to see some of the older people on the block and check in on them. Tomorrow is the Holy Day of obligation.

One of sons’ birthday is today, so we often turn all the lights out and take him out to dinner. However, this year the children really wanted costumes and trick-or-treating.

Although I respect the opinions of those who choose not to participate in Hallowe’en activities at all, I also don’t think it’s un-Christian to dress up. We don’t allow unpleasant or distasteful costumes. I’ve got some literary characters, some Stargate characters, a Roman empress, and a boy who’s Invisible.

You said that your All Saint’s Day Party is sparsely attended — then have it the Saturday before.

Our 5:30 Mass last Saturday was a Children’s Mass and then they had the party. Huge attendance. Children were dressed as saints.

Since it’s after Mass, they offer nachos and hotdogs for a donation. (Really don’t have to pay.)

It’s a sellout every year. No matter how much food they prepare, they seem to run out. LOL!
