Mormon ousted as an apostate
East Valley Tribune—Phoenix, AZ, MSNBC ^ | Sept 23, 2007 | Lawn Griffiths

Posted on 09/24/2007 8:16:13 AM PDT by colorcountry

Being excommunicated for apostasy by the Mormon church is one thing, but Lyndon Lamborn is livid that his stake president has ordered bishops in eight Mesa wards to take the rare step of announcing disciplinary action against him to church members today. "I thought if he could go public, so can I," said Lamborn, a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who said his research into church history gave him "thousands of reasons the church can't be what it claims to be."

Stake President R. James Molina acknowledged Friday he intends to have Lamborn's excommunication announced to the wards at men's priesthood meetings and womens Relief Society gatherings, even with Lamborn now taking his case public. Molina, as well as officials at church headquarters in Salt Lake City, call such a public warning about an ousted member extremely rare. They say, however, church members must be protected from what discordant ex-followers may say to damage the church...................

I know a guy who got ex-communicated TWICE but there’s still hope.

Matthew 18:21-22
21. Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, "Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother when he sins against me? Up to seven times?"
22. Jesus answered, "I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.

If that is genuinely the case, then I wish them the best.

As it has not been my experience, I won’t be following them.

It's my experience, and opinion that you are greatly deceived my friend...

I truly hope and pray that you someday see the truth.

Jimmy’s ‘problem’ was that he did NOT follow the course set out for him by his denomination to get back onto the path.

He had to do it HIS way; and the rest is history.

Eternal exaltation comes AFTER enduring to the end in righteousness, so being a faithful member only means you are the straight and narrow path towards exaltation.

Oh!

So it's like a video game that you can never WIN; but keep getting a better score.

1 John 5:13
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

Discuss the issues all you want but do not make it personal.

Attributing motives and reading minds are "making it personal."

You know, the covenant, promise, and vow they make during the marriage ceremony to cleave to one another and no other. Or don’t you believe that?

I was asking to see if your definition follows your church's definition.

Simple question here folks:

If you were visited personally by God the Father, and Jesus Christ, would it have an impact on you? If so, describe that impact.

It's not always a blinding light or a burning in the bosum, and in fact, of that we are cautioned to question. Every Christian meets the Lord. He changes people and He changes nations. He has changed the world.

John 14:23

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

14:24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.

14:25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.

14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

A couple of them have acknowledged a few years later that they had committed adultery, but really, that wasn’t the issue (in their eyes). And Sonia Johnson ended up being a lesbian, um, which was the true cause of her excommunication.

Very good description.

So, if you had an experience (maybe you have) of the type that you have so eloquently described, would it leave (so to speak) a mark on your soul that you would never forget?

Yes the fault lies with Jimmy, who not only sinned, but insisted uponsinning several more times.

The pastors who came to counsel him, came in their limos, offering to take over his sizeable income and run his operation for him. Perhaps they were more concerned with something besides Jimmy's soul. I'm not of his denomination but I always liked Jimmy

Exodus 12:7

And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.

12:13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

For all those who are washed in the blood of the Lamb it's not just a mark, it's a covering

Sonia Johnson did indeed later profess to be a lesbian. Had she had sexual relations with a woman at the time of her excommunication? If so, how do you know? And how do you know that is the reason for her excommunication? Link?

"You can’t lose what you don’t yet have. Eternal exaltation comes AFTER enduring to the end in righteousness, so being a faithful member only means you are the straight and narrow path towards exaltation. Excommunication just moves you back to the start of the path and those members are free to repent, be baptized again and continue on that path once again." Grig It is the clear teaching of the Bible that Jesus atoned for our sins and redeemed us from the curse upon us because of our sinful nature.

The redeeming part is vital because it means that God's Spirit can come to the human spirit when the cleansing is accomplished for that individual when they acknowledge Jesus is the redeemer and by faithe the believer believes God so His Righteousness is counted for the believer! This lesson is starkly illustrated numerous times in the Old Testament: Noah, Abraham, Rahab, David, etc. That redemption of the believer/the faither is immediate, not something that awaits the believer 'after all that he can do in life to earn the atonement.'

You cannot walk in righteousness of your own accord because your nature is to sin thus you have no righteousness by God's standard and must have Jesus, be 'in Christ a new creation in order to have even the most slim sliver of righteousness. The passage under scrutiny, ICor 5, shows us that the one whom married his mother was to be sent from the fellowship so that Satan could finish off the 'Adam nature' so that the new nature promised and given when the one who professed Christ would be retained unto the Day of the Lord.

Even the Saved still live in the body and mind inherited from fallen Adam. To conquer that sin nature, Jesus atoned for the sins the believer commits before and after the believer has been cleansed in spirit and the Holy Spirit indwells him/her in his or her spirit. This has been mischaracterized as license to sin boldly (as Luther put it), but the truth is, once Salvation is come --the human spirit has been sprinkled with the blood of the Savior-- and the Holy Spirit takes up residence, Jesus taught us that even the gates of Hell cannot remove that new family relationship and the outworking of His presence will be such that instead of wanting to sin, we want to be transformed by the renewing of our mind --that renewing is accomplished in the inner man/woman by the indwelling Holy Spirit.

The mistake some make is to take 'faith' to be only a noun. It is actually an action word. Greek nouns were derived from their verbs. Paul used 'pisteuo' the Greek word translated 'believe' when the action is portrayed in the King James. In other places 'pistis' is the Greek word and there it is translated 'faith'. Bottom line is, 'to faithe' cometh by hearing and hearing and hearing by the Word of God. Faith in the Christ as Savior brings an immediate transformational event which cleanses the human spirit so that then --not later after all you can do-- RIGHT THEN, that instant the Holy Spirit comes to reside with you and begin the 'faithing' process which transforms you in soul and body as you live allowing God's Spirit to illuminate your sinful aspects so He can crucify them daily, leaving you a growing, vibrant new creation by His handiwork, not yours.

"And again, if you read 1Cor, you will see Paul is very, very clear that fornicators like the member he ordered excommunicated are to be cast out of the church and will not be in heaven unless they repent." That is not what Paul taught in chapter five of first Corinthians. ... ICor5:5 to deliver up such a one to the Adversary for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

Again, bottom line, a professing person is Saved when they confess with their mouth that Jesus is Messiah and believe in their heart that God has raised Him from the dead. PERIOD. THEN, the Holy Spirit comes in to dwell in the cleansed human spirit and gestate a new creation begun by 'borning' into God's family. Just as your natural birth made you a member of Adam's family, spiritual birth makes you a new creation in God's family. You can't earn that new birth, you cannot work your way into the state of righteousness that will oblige God to extend His Grace unto you. You believe God and it, the belief, the faith, is counted for you righteousness and God 'borns' you into His family in Christ, thus to Christ alone is the glory due, not of any of your efforts at righteousness lest any man should boast about what he presumes he earned.

If you were visited personally by SOMETHINGs that CLAIMED to be God the Father (who has a body), and Jesus Christ, would you put them to some kind of test?
