Vatican says other Christian churches "wounded" (Non-Catholics not fullly Christian)

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - The Vatican said on Tuesday Christian denominations outside Roman Catholicism were not full churches of Jesus Christ.

Protestant leaders said this was offensive and would hurt inter-religious dialogue.

A 16-page document by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, which Pope Benedict once headed, described Christian Orthodox churches as true churches, but suffering from a "wound" since they do not recognize the primacy of Pope.

But the document said the "wound is still more profound" in Protestant denominations.

"Despite the fact that this teaching has created no little distress ... it is nevertheless difficult to see how the title of 'Church' could possibly be attributed to them," it said.

The Vatican text, which restates the controversial document

Gee, you ARE earthbound if you dopn’t understand about Mary and the Saints being in heaven. I certainly hope you NEVER ask any human to pray for you sbout a sickness or trouble.....just go it alone and ask Jesus, NEVER ask anyone for ANYTHING but Jesus....NEVER.

Mary and the Saints ain't in heaven, lady. They're dead and buried until Christ returns, just as the rest of us, saints, prophets and kings, will be when we pass away. A human can pray with me, because they're alive and thinking and CAN do so. As for your last line, Hallelujah!

Actually, they do. They always have and they never stopped believing it. A long time ago, the Soutbern Baptists in Alabama published a demographic survey, in which, they took the numbers of people who we could calculate as officially belonging to each church, they divided it by the population in each county, and they determined, with “scientific zeal”, the proportion of people in each county who were going to hell.

They defined Catholics, Lutherans, Episcopalians, and pretty much any Christian denomionation that did not buy into their crap as among the groups that would be going to hell.

But yes, they actually teach their children that. They teach them that we are somehow a Satanic religion because we don’t condemn drinking or gambling, and I suspect they also condemn us because we don’t listen to their Gospel radio stations 24/7 and watch their TBN. After Katrina, a disaster that actually affected this state, a member of the state legislature from the Northern part of the state implied that Katrina was God’s wrath on a “sinful coast”. The coast is Catholic, and even though this dimension of his remark was lost by the general disgust at it, I think he was clearly saying that the coast got hit with Katrina cause it was Catholic.

But to answer your question, yes, they actually believe it.

I guessed. =) I have no denomination, because I don't agree with any one set of their rules. I attend Mass weekly, have also gone to Baptist churches for a number of years. Have been to Methodist, Presbyterian, Lutheran services as well attending Jewish services.

I believe only what I can read in the Bible. So I guess the phrase sola scriptura was made up for me.

Would you tell me where it says in the Bible that Mary and the Saints are in heaven with Christ right now, while the rest of us (again, saints, prophets and kings) wait in the ground?

What IDOL do we Catholics worship?

Would this qualify?

Since 1149, the Basilica of the Holy Blood in Bruges has housed a fragment of cloth stained with what is said to be the coagulated blood of Christ, wiped from his body after the crucifixion by Joseph of Arimathea.

The relic is embedded in a rock-crystal vial, which itself is inside a small glass cylinder adorned with a golden crown at each end. Normally the relic is kept in a magnificent tabernacle, on which is an image of the "lamb of Christ," on a side altar in the upstairs chapel.

The sacred relic is brought out regularly so that the faithful can kiss it, and every year, in the colorful Procession of the Holy Blood on Ascension Day, the bishop of Bruges carries the relic through the streets, accompanied by costumed residents acting out biblical scenes.

I do not take Communion at our services, but I do ask for blessings from whoever is serving the Host. It would be disrepectful and irresponsible of me to take Communion when I am not fully committed to the doctrine. I take Communion by myself, at home, rather infrequently.

Do you think Al Qaeda members think of themselves as part of the Body of Christ? And you think MY statement makes no sense.

So you call the Christ Church of Al Qaeda home?

Praying to a statue of the Virgin Mary and praying to one of Venus is one in the same.......

Take a piece of bread, and a cup of wine. Pray over it, and eat / drink. Same thing Christ did.

Once again, Jesus said to Peter, “and on this Rock I will build my Church” in answer to Peter’s declaration “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God”. The “Rock” was Peter’s confession of faith, not his person. Christ is the Rock, the head of the Church and anyone who confesses Christ as Son of the living God is a member of His Church. Throughout Scripture the only “Rock” mentioned is Almighty God, not Peter. The Church has ONE HEAD. Anything with two heads is a monstrosity !

“Why can’t everyone worship as they choose and everyone else stay the hell out of their lives INCLUDING the Vatican?!!!”

I’m not a Catholic but hey, exactly how did the Pope’s announcement intrude on your life? I didn’t read the part about “and we’re reinstituting the Inquisition and will be at cubreporter’s door tonight!” I never did quite understand where one person’s mere pronouncement of his beliefs is somehow controlling another.

“NOBODY expects the Spanish Inquisition!
Our chief weapon is surprise...surprise and fear...fear and surprise....
Our two weapons are fear and surprise... and ruthless efficiency....
Our three weapons are fear, surprise, and ruthless efficiency...
and an almost fanatical devotion to the Pope....
Our four... no...
Amongst our weapons... Amongst our weaponry...
are such elements as fear, surprise...
I’ll come in again.”
