Once again, Jesus said to Peter, “and on this Rock I will build my Church” in answer to Peter’s declaration “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God”. The “Rock” was Peter’s confession of faith, not his person. Christ is the Rock, the head of the Church and anyone who confesses Christ as Son of the living God is a member of His Church. Throughout Scripture the only “Rock” mentioned is Almighty God, not Peter. The Church has ONE HEAD. Anything with two heads is a monstrosity !
By whose authority do you interpret Christ’s Words this way? Remember that Jesus gave Simon a new name in the part of the sentence you excluded. Care to share with the class what that name means?
