VATICAN CITY (AFP) - The Vatican set itself on a collision course with other Christian faiths Tuesday, reaffirming the primacy of the Roman Catholic Church in a corrective document designed to clear up recent "erroneous" doctrine.
The document's central claim that the Catholic Church is "the one true Church of Christ", is likely to revive a debate which has dogged the Vatican's dealings with other Christian faiths for decades.
Other Christian faiths "lack elements considered essential to the Catholic Church," it said.
The 16-page text -- released by the Vatican's doctrinal watchdog the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and ratified by the pope -- "constitutes a clear reaffirmation of Catholic doctrine on the Church," according to an attached commentary.
Basically a restatement of bedrock Vatican doctrine, its release was prompted "because some contemporary theological research has been erroneous or ambiguous," the commentary said.
Actually, the Amish call these press conferences all the time, but with no recording or broadcast equipment present, the news never gets anywhere. =P
No, I attend a Catholic church. So as far as I can tell, just I do it.
In Mass, I participate with the liturgy and prayers of the Mass but when I am not at Mass I pray and worship any way I want and use any words I want.
Same here.
Some people are just absurd in their prejudices.
Okay, I'll bite, how am I being "prejudiced" rather than simply disagreeing with Catholics?
Naw, it’s just that the Amish have cooler cars than we do, makes for better pictures!
Dignatitis Humanae can’t really be read correctly without Dominus Ieusus. It was flawed that way. This is an even stronger restatement. They shouldn’t have had to over-correct like this had DH been complete.
I visited a parish where they did that... I wasn't expecting it, so it was quite the shock. No other parish I've seen that has Children's Liturgy of the Word has done that.
I'm not going back there... and I'm not encouraging anyone to go there either.
OK, I’ll bite... how come?
Oh, and I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention “The Budget”. They’ve no need for press conferences, every settlement has a scribe and you can read about it in the paper every Wednesday. No pictures, of course:)
Just don't agree with that statement.
Said differently: its declarations/proclamations are as illusive as a county fair greased pig.

There is only one antodote to such foolishness ... the true Word of God established in our hearts by the Spirit of Christ Himself.
Simple ones, who have some taste and relish of popish superstition (for many such there be in the land), do suck from the intoxicated drugs of conformity, the softer milk which makes them grow in error. And who can be ignorant what a large-spread Popery, Arminianism, and reconciliation with Rome, have taken among the arch-urgers of the ceremonies? What marvel that Papists clap their hands? for they see the day coming which they wish for. Woe to thee, O land, which bears professed Papists and avouched Atheists, but cannot bear them who desire to abstain from all appearance of evil (1 Thess. 5:22); for truth and equity are fallen in thee, and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey (Isa. 59:14, 15). (George Gillespie, English Popish Ceremonies: TO ALL IN THE REFORMED CHURCHES)Christ alone is the head of His Church, not the "bishop of Rome" or any such pretender.
>>I’m not going back there... and I’m not encouraging anyone to go there either.<<
We’ll be going back to the area next year but will be hitting Mass Times for a different parish.
Although, it may be the best there is. Our friends were telling us that they attended another parish where the Alleluia started with “Alle-alle-alle....”
The husband said that he wanted to scream out “Oxen Free!”
Yes, and it was just removed from the ventilator Saturday.
Et in unam sanctam cathólicam et apostólicam Ecclésiam.
One Holy, Catholic and apostolic Church.
Maybe it’s time the WCF reinstates the part about the Pope....
Kind of shows what a steady diet of LifeTeen gets ya.
So someone ignorant taught you ignorant things and that’s what you accepted? I dunno, I was told a lot of things growing up, I didn’t accept them just because someone said so. I asked questions and got answers, some years later.
How did you come to find out that Christ is your Savior? IOW, how was what you know today about Christ passed on to you?
Ah, a Protestant eh? :-)
