Vatican reiterates hardline on primacy of Catholic Church

VATICAN CITY (AFP) - The Vatican set itself on a collision course with other Christian faiths Tuesday, reaffirming the primacy of the Roman Catholic Church in a corrective document designed to clear up recent "erroneous" doctrine.

The document's central claim that the Catholic Church is "the one true Church of Christ", is likely to revive a debate which has dogged the Vatican's dealings with other Christian faiths for decades.

Other Christian faiths "lack elements considered essential to the Catholic Church," it said.

The 16-page text -- released by the Vatican's doctrinal watchdog the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and ratified by the pope -- "constitutes a clear reaffirmation of Catholic doctrine on the Church," according to an attached commentary.

Basically a restatement of bedrock Vatican doctrine, its release was prompted "because some contemporary theological research has been erroneous or ambiguous," the commentary said.

And one "pillar and foundation of the truth."

1 Timothy 3:15

if I am delayed, you will know how people ought to conduct themselves in God's household, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and foundation of the truth.

I appreciate our current pope’s frankness and directness. It’s very refreshing in the age of spin.

Ephesians 2: 8,9

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

The rest of us don’t care what some old dude in a funny hat says from thousands of miles away ;). I am, of course, trolling there. As a non-denominational Christian, it doesn’t matter to me if any church declares itself supreme. I believe that Christ is my savior and I’ve been baptised. That’s all I need.

I was watching EWTN’s special last night on the Latin Mass. When one of the priests mentioned that TLM’s format is set and that there cannot be any deviation from it, I was struck with the thought of how politcally incorrect this will be...What about the feelings of the poor altar girls, the tamborine players, the drummers, and et al? It’s amazing to see policy decisions being made without regard to political correctness.

Romans 5:1,2 -

"Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God."

Out of context.....

1 I commend to you Phoebe our sister, who is (also) a minister of the church at Cenchreae,
2
that you may receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the holy ones, and help her in whatever she may need from you, for she has been a benefactor to many and to me as well.
3
Greet Prisca and Aquila, 3 my co-workers in Christ Jesus,
4
who risked their necks for my life, to whom not only I am grateful but also all the churches of the Gentiles;
5
greet also the church at their house. 4 Greet my beloved Epaenetus, who was the firstfruits in Asia for Christ.
6
Greet Mary, who has worked hard for you.
7
Greet Andronicus and Junia, 5 my relatives and my fellow prisoners; they are prominent among the apostles and they were in Christ before me.
8
Greet Ampliatus, my beloved in the Lord.
9
Greet Urbanus, our co-worker in Christ, and my beloved Stachys.
10
Greet Apelles, who is approved in Christ. Greet those who belong to the family of Aristobulus.
11
Greet my relative Herodion. Greet those in the Lord who belong to the family of Narcissus.
12
Greet those workers in the Lord, Tryphaena and Tryphosa. Greet the beloved Persis, who has worked hard in the Lord.
13
Greet Rufus, 6 chosen in the Lord, and his mother and mine.
14
Greet Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermes, Patrobas, Hermas, and the brothers who are with them.
15
Greet Philologus, Julia, Nereus and his sister, and Olympas, and all the holy ones who are with them.
16
Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the churches of Christ greet you.

(hint, all of those people headed “churches” and all were of the same faith)

I don't buy it. Never have, never will.

I don't need to go through a pope to talk to God.

Did you see the call from the guitar player, asking what his role would be in TLM?

The priest from the panel said, “Get a missal and participate, but there is no room for guitars at the TLM!”

>>I don’t need to go through a pope to talk to God.<<

*snicker*
Neither do I, or any Catholics.
Is that what you think we do? Get on the Popephone to talk to God?
