I prefer NO flames on this, PLEASE! Would just like an open dialogue. We aren't always going to agree on everything, but we can be civil. :-)

What do you believe?

"In religion and politics people's beliefs and convictions are in almost every case gotten at second-hand, and without examination, from authorities who have not themselves examined the questions at issue but have taken them at second-hand from other non-examiners, whose opinions about them were not worth a brass farthing."

I don’t believe in superstars organic food and foreign cars.
I don’t believe the price of gold the certainty of growing old.
That right is right and left is wrong that north and south can’t get along.
That east is east and west is west and being first is always best.
But I believe in love I believe in babies I believe in mom and dad and I believe in you.

I don’t believe that heaven waits for only those who congregate.
I like to think of God as love he’s down below he’s up above
He’s watchin’ people everywhere he knows who does and doesn’t care
And I’m an ordinary man sometimes I wonder who I am
But I believe in love. I believe in music. I believe in magic and I believe in you.

Well I know with all my certainty what’s going on with you and me is a good thing.
It’s true I believe in you.
Well I don’t believe virginity is as common as it used to be
In working days and sleeping nights that black is black and white is white.
That Superman and Robin Hood are still alive in Hollywood
That gasoline’s in short supply the rising cost of gettin’ by
But I believe in love I believe in old folks I believe in children and I believe in you.

—Don Williams

I tack that on to orthodox Christianity.

I kinda like the idea of Messianic Judaism, where one follows the Torah, but still believes in Yeshua. Of course, everyone I talk to about this says that's just being a Christian. So I don't know at this time.

For a long time I took, and still take, solace in this.

I believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty,
maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God,
eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, light from light, true God from true God,begotten, not made,
of one Being with the Father; through Him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation He came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate; He suffered death and was buried.
On the third day He rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and His kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church.
I acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins.
I look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Oh, I guess I should say I grew up in the Presbyterian church, my dad was always music director.

Shouldn't mention the time I almost nailed one of the preachers, when I was part of a brass choir for Easter, and I swung up my tuba to play it, just as the two preachers were coming up the aisle. Missed one by about 3 inches...

That's because it is Christian. If the phrase "believes in Yeshua" means to believe that chas v'shalom a human Messiah is Hashem, it is utterly incompatible with Torah. Reminds me of something Elijah said:

1 Kings 18:21 And Elijah came to all the people, and said, How long will you hobble between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him; And the people answered him not a word:

Like I said, and we've discussed privately, I don't know.

But I encourage all to check out NightSounds. It got me through a lot.

Here’s “some grist for the mill” that appeared this weekend.
I think Peter Hitchens and his brother Christopher are emblematic
of the general state of belief in the modern world. (also nicely
covered in the book “The Question of God” by Armand Nicolosi).
Oh, as for myself...most days I relate to Peter Hitchens, others
I’ll see the world as Christopher does a bit.

I figured if the replies are any good, the thread will spontaneously combust. Otherwise it’ll die for lack of fuel. :-)

Good one Salvation. It's even harder than that for me to hide (though that was by design).

HungarianGypsy, do you mind if I talk in the context of a story? That's really the only way my my journey really makes sense. I started typing, and it's getting fairly lengthy, and I don't want to be a thread-hog.
