No pope ever approved of the sale of indulgences as a proper act.

No pope? Nada?

Maybe it just depends on what the proper definition of "proper" is.

CREED OF POPE PIOUS IV

"The "Professio fidei Tridentina", also known as the "Creed of Pope Pius IV", is one of the four authoritative Creeds of the Catholic Church. It was issued on November 13, 1565 by Pope Pius IV in his bull "Iniunctum nobis" under the auspices of the Council of Trent (1545 - 1563). It was subsequently modified slightly after the First Vatican Council (1869 - 1870) to bring it inline with the dogmatic definitions of the Council. The major intent of the Creed was to clearly define the Catholic faith against Protestantism. At one time it was used by Theologians as an oath of loyalty to the Church and to reconcile converts to the Church, but it is rarely used these days....

I also affirm that the power of indulgences was left by Christ in the Church, and that the use of them is most wholesome to Christian people...

serious and respectfully asked:

Please explain how Mary takes part in Jesus’ redemptive works? What are Christ’s redepmtive acts from the RCC perspective? Cite any scripture that helps clarify so I can understand becuase I truly don’t know what you mean here...I want to understand your perspective.

Blessings in Christ.

it doesn’t mean anything to them that you are not happy with them. they will find millions more members in the third world.

then is any thread that mentions a Presbyterian becoming a Catholic therefore an anti-Presbyterian thread?

What other reason would there be for the recent "we got us a Calllllvinist!" conversion story thread?

I think you should read this verse again. If you think a shallow image of God who is mean and selfish and hates His own creation then you may have it. I happen to think that God is wondrous and He gave us all of His creation to love. If we can't love the angels or the saints then properly we can't love our spouses and our children and our relatives and we can't love the glorious creation that God gave us.

I don't think that nor do I see why you think I do. I am merely informing you of God's own words. Maybe you think God is all gooey and warm and will overlook the fact that people just ignore Him

Here's how He describes Himself:

Ex 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

Ex 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:

Deut4 For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.

De 5:9 Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,

De 6:15 (For the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee, and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.

Jos 24:19 And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.

Na 1:2 God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious ; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies.

Hmm... Jesus didn't include his birth mother and siblings in His statement. It could be inferred, at this time, they did not yet believe in Him.

Jesus is even more explicit about this fact when He instructs those in his own synagogue...

"And he went out from thence, and came into his own country; and his disciples follow him.

And when the sabbath day was come, he began to teach in the synagogue: and many hearing him were astonished, saying, From whence hath this man these things? and what wisdom is this which is given unto him, that even such mighty works are wrought by his hands?

Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.

But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house." -- Mark 6:1-4

Even those mentioned from His own house, his mother and his brothers and sisters, did not yet recognize Him as God.

The Gospels are actually OT ( written before the church was founded)

How so? Most people would say the church was founded at Pentecost.

No one is "dissing" Mary. Some people get so concerned with Mary they can't see that they are themselves disrespecting the Son by putting her ahead of Him

Psalm 2:12

Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

That is why the gospels are technically OT . They cover the period of time when Jesus lived and ministered, died and rose again.

Jesus lived under the law in the Ot period of sacrifices etc.

The church was born at Pentecost and that was after the Ascension.

That is the start of the NT writings which were instructional/correctional letters to the church and of course the final prophecy of John to the church about the end of time.

You know you don’t need to cut and paste all that scripture to make your point. I have a Bible and I read it, a citation will do. Evidentally you have read it and you think that God doesn’t want us to love anyone else. What he said is love Him above all else and have no other gods. It does not say to love only God but to love Him above all. Why pray tell, would Jesus ask us to love one another? You limit God and you limit the Word to your own interpretation. God bless you, bye.

I love that Psalm. It's so exuberant.

"Kiss the Son."

I don’t want to sound mean but are your worshipping the Bible? Think about it and think what you have accused me and other Catholics of doing.

Be that as it may, he seems to have only a superficial understanding of Catholic doctrine.

Tiki, the scriptures are the very word of God.

If God stood in front of you and stated talking to you what would your reaction be? Would you be attentive and listen to it? Would you take it seriously? Would you follow what He told you?

Protestants do not worship the bible, we do love it as a love letter from God for our protection and instruction, correction and our eternity.

There is an old saying, "a man is as good as his word" . God is as good as His,we take Him at His word.

Another tired old argument with no substance to it. I’ll spare you all the citations from the bible because I know you have one and you can read it.

I KNOW that and I also know that the Catholic Church through the discernment of the Holy Spirit put that Canon together for the good of all mankind and they knew what it meant and they have also passed on that wisdom.

If God came to you and told you to turn right would you reinterpret His word to mean to turn left?
