Is prophecy for today? Or have all of the prophecies in the Bible been fulfilled already? Will God keep His promises to Israel? Or has He transferred all of those promises to the Church?
On May 1st-4th, I will be debating Don Preston (Eschatology.org) on Biblical eschatology. Don is a full preterist (which some would label "extreme preterism") who believes that all Biblical prophecy was fulfilled in or before 70 AD. I am of course a Messianic (Hebrewroot.com) premillennialst who believes that we are rapidly moving into the End Times.
Both of us are committed to an edifying and God-pleasing debate, and even though our beliefs and practices are very different in some areas, we agree on the most important issue: Yeshua HaMashiach, Jesus Christ, is the Son of God and our Redeemer. Therefore, we're approaching this issue as brothers with an honest disagreement, and plan to avoid throwing charges of heresy being thrown back and forth.
The two topics of this debate, both of which will be covered for two nights, are:
Resolved: The Bible teaches that the second, i.e. final coming of Christ, and the resurrection of the dead, occurred at the end of the Old Covenant Age of Israel in the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70.The debate will be held at:Affirm: Don K. Preston
Deny: Michael BuggResolved: The Bible teaches that due to the first century Jewish rejection of Jesus, the promise of the Davidic kingdom has been (was) postponed until the establishment of the Davidic kingdom on earth at the end of the current Christian Age.
Affirm: Michael Bugg
Deny: Don K. Preston
Memphis MarriottThe debates will run from 7 to 9 PM each night. I'd like to invite any of my fellow Freepers who live in Memphis or who will be in the Memphis area that week to join us as we tackle this difficult and often divisive subject.

I'll be here off-and-on all afternoon and evening, but I'm prepping for the live debate, so I hope everyone will understand if I avoid having a pre-debate debate here. Anyone else who wants to debate each other is more than welcome to--especially since that will keep this thread on top. :) Just keep it civil, please.
Be sure to start this off seriously with the blowing of the shofar annd the prophetic cry “Bring out your dead, bring out your dead”.
Some folks would label it a heresy in that it denies nearly every confession of the Church.
Not to put a damper on the event, but most non-futurists are not full (Hymanean) preterists and really would have little interest in such a debate. You have the two extreme positions in debate when most of us (historicists and partial preterists) fit neatly in the middle.
Have fun any way.
I would like to see you take on an orthodox preterist like Ken Gentry to Gary DeMar, or anyone who denies that the fulfillment of most prophecy is still in the future.
Will this be broadcast over the Internet, or will mp3s be available after the fracas?
I'd like to hear it, too.
(I'm a long way from Memphis!)
Eschatological humor bump.
No one ever expects the Spanish Inquisition.
LOL, I'm just a touch different. I think the (correct me if I'm wrong on the spelling) Acharit HaYamim began with the Ascension and continue until the Judgment.
May you do credit to your learning.
Thanks thanks.
This thread makes my brain hurt.
It’s supposed to get both video and audio recording. I should have the audio posted on my website not too long after the debate.
Hmm . . . boy that’s tempting.
Good luck my friend. Prayers to you in your battle.
Have fun any way.

Buuump!
I do.
partial preterism and full preterism are distinguished only by similes, metaphors, symbols, and allegories.
Rotflol!
I knew there was a reason I like you so much. :>)
I don't -- not from the Spanish anyway.
They can't even defend themselves.
