We read the bible. Furthermore, we HEAR the bible in the regular round of Sunday lessons, going through the whole thing every three years. And our Priests are required to preach on the lesson of the day -- no 50 minute vanity sermons like the prots are so fond of delivering.

The scary part is that there are some who fully endorse it. Some (the vast minority, I'll add) who post on the FR Religion Forum.

I can't think of more than two or three pro-Chick FReepers that I've encountered in my six + years of posting here. IMO the whole "Jack Chick" thing has been little more than a strawman used against Protestants at various times - certainly far more often than the legitimate cases warrant.

I'm not a Chick supporter, but I've been accused of it a couple of times myself.

Yes, I have heard from several who have assured me they do. Praise God. There is hope for my loved ones.

But please don't discount the Christian Church sermons. I agree with you that there are many"vanity sermons". I can't stand them. There are false teachers, even those who come in Christ name, but that is why I think it is critical to have a biblical base to stand on. So when the false teachers spew their venom, you put on the armor of God and can fight off the enemy.

Not all Christian churches are like what you see on T.V. or read about in the papers, they tend to show the "wacko's". My pastor teaches directly from the bible, diving deep into the scripture and the relevance and significance of it to our lives. I can't wait to go every Sunday to learn more about who God truly is.

So let's be unified in our Christ, even though we don't agree on some points. As long as we agree on the message of the cross and Jesus rose from the dead, we will be saved.

There are plenty of FReepers who repeat the same nonsense and lies Chick tells. (Check out the "What really happened at Easter" thread for a contemporary example.)

They'll tell you that Catholics resacrifice Jesus at Mass, that Catholics are Babylonian pagans, that Catholics think the Pope is equal to God, that Catholics worship Mary as a goddess, and that the Catholic Church is the Whore of Revelation. Most weeks on FR, you can find every one of those slams posted at least once.

Those comments are repugnant by themselves, whether or not they're accompanied by Chick's comics.

I was a young child the first time I was told that I am going to Hell, because I wasn't a Catholic. Makes me wonder what those good Catholic kids were being taught.

They were being taught that they were going to go to hell too... :)

Then you should understand how the Protestants feel each and every week...

Agreed. It's no wonder that some Catholics can no longer stomach these threads.

Then they should have kicked themselves off of their playground too. My friend (Episcopalian) was deemed close enough & allowed to stay & play.

My sympathies. Evidently, all of those comments are coming from one poster, right? The comments I'm talking about are coming from rather large group of individuals.

Yes, they are from a single individual. But to be sure, similar comments are made against Protestants and other non-Catholic Christians by another "rather large group of individuals", except it's a group of Catholics that are making the latter comments.

It said on the Fox News crawl this morning that this is the second anniversary of the death of John Paul Magnus. Anybody know if this is true? Isn’t there any commemoration?

I, likewise, can only think of two or three posters here (may not be any more) who are explicitly pro-Chick (thus the vast minority comment).

I can, however, think of several posters here who are into the old Babylon Mystery Religion thing like Chick was, even though they don't cite Chick.

IMO the whole "Jack Chick" thing has been little more than a strawman used against Protestants at various times - certainly far more often than the legitimate cases warrant.

I would say a caricature. At least that's how and when I use it.

Do you study the bible?

Study it? Not as much as I should. But, I read it. And, we have three readings from it every Sunday at mass.

I think direct biblical knowledge is important. But, do bear in mind that you can bring five biblical scholars together who will interpret the same passage differently. And, then where does that leave you?

I'm not about to become an expert on the bible, and put as much, if not more time and effort toward prayer.

Thanks for your honesty. I agree that there are many ways to interpet the bible, that is why it is important to figure out what you believe.

I would encourage you to start reading the bible more, if you are a Christian. It is hard enough to be a Christian in this crazy world, but if you don’t know why you believe in what you believe in, it becomes even more difficult.

Satan is a real enemy who seeks to destroy us.God’s word is the armour we need to protect us. It is what Jesus himself used against satan when satan was trying his best to tempt Jesus to sin. Jesus quoted scripture back to him. This is our model. See Matthew 4.

If you feel you don’t have the skills to interpet the bible, join a bible study. Learn from others. You can also find many tools to help you in the Christian book store. If you just ask you will be surprised how easy it is to study the bible. One requirement, according to scripture, is you must be filled with the Holy Spirit in order for it to make sense to you. 1 Corinthians 2:14.

God bless you.

So... has there been a decision as far as who will assume ownership of the list from FRiend/FReeper AlaninSA? :)

I'm about to (finally) update the Master Ping List.

I know only about two or three people total publicly volunteered on the thread itself to pick up the job. Don't know how many private replies Alan may have received. If nobody else steps up, I will be the List Owner.

Thank you! I also saw 1 or 2 “i can if noone else will” replies on the thread, but wasn’t sure if there were private replies as you mentioned, or if this would be a shared venture among several FReepers. :)

I’ll list you for now, CT, and add any others on the immediate updates.

Please add me, 3rd degree. Do we have to give the secret incantation and handshake to be admitted to the list?
