I've found less and less to like about posting on FR - especially due to the wide-spread (and mod-condoned) anti-Catholicism. I'm spending little time on this website. It is no longer appropriate that I maintain the KofC ping list. I will post the ping list, post the graphics that have been used and do this no more.

It's a sad state of affairs when the keeper of a list of "practical Roman Catholics," the largest Roman Catholic fraternal organization in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, the Philippines and now even in Poland, decides to give it up because of the anti-Catholicism prevalent on Free Republic.

I too have seen it, and get numerous Freepmails alerting me to "fires" on threads trashing our Religion. Just yesterday, Petronski and others went toe to toe with a group of bigots. The issue is, is it worth it?

I don't want to keep the list. I am not going to survey the threads each day looking for the classic "Jack Chick" references in disguise. If the K of C ping list dies, so be it. I would ask the simple question, is that good for Free Republic?

Bill Donohue of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights is correct. Anti-Catholicism is indeed the last acceptable prejudice.

Put another way, if the mods and management are happy with the current state of affairs, is a KofC list even worthwhile? Given the tone of moderation, Catholics are slipping close to the category of "undesirables," IMHO.

People who are in other religions are so jealous of Roman Catholics. I remember once on FR a Catholic poster explained to me that people of other religions are threatened by Catholicism because it so appealing and they are afraid that their followers will become Catholic. That is why they lash out at us.

The anti-Catholicism you cite is evident and unfortunate. Some FReepers are not content to state their own beliefs; they feel the need to attack the beliefs of others. Worse, in an effort to score cheap debating points, some will bear false witness, misrepresenting the beliefs and practices of other faiths.

The moderators have a difficult task. They want to allow free discussion while weeding out abusive postings. I do not believe that they condone anti-Catholicism; when in doubt, they err on the side of free discussion.

I agree with you...I'm not a Catholic and don't pretend to be but the posts that some of the non-Catholics put on here are shameful and it's sad. Personally I try to ask questions to better understand the RCC/EO perspective to compare/contrast what I believe.

IMHO, the best thing every poster no matter what faith or creed being subscribed to is to be decent. I'm sure i've failed from time to time, but that's truly what's needed.

All that being said, I have been the recipient of anti-Lutheran rants before so it does cut both ways. When that's happened I've tried to express that while I may disagree with the point being discussed, I am willing to defend my faith respectfully and move on...I hope we all can continue to do so in the future and have edifying conversation in a civilized fashion...

Religions, of all denominations, are ridiculed, insulted and demeaned on a daily basis by the democratMSM, it is shameful that this attitude has crept into this forum.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I can't blame you at all. It is not a little ironic that you make this announcement on the week of Our Lord's Passion.

Isa 53:2b he had no form or comeliness that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him.

Isa 53:3 He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Isa 53:4 Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.

Our Lord was reviled far more than the anti-Catholics on Free Republic could ever do to any or all of us.

When we have to bear our tiny little portion, we should keep in mind the words of Saint Paul:

Col 1:24 Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ's afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church…

Not a one of us has been killed, jailed, or beaten for our beliefs. Sure, we get spit upon occasionally for our beliefs on this site, but compared to what our Lord enduresd for us, it is utterly insignificant.

It is sad to see this go, Brother. I am a Knight here in the Hudson Valley, NY and it is sad to see this. I have become less interested in FR of late and that is for many reasons but this tops all of them. In life, Alan, as you probably are already aware of, there are a lot of anti Catholics in our midst and that is very sad. God Bless you Brother and take care.

Perhaps Rom 8: 16-17 also makes a similar point:

The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if only we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.

This weekend we heard from our pastor that a former associate pastor had a cross burned in the lawn in front of the rectory of his current parish. In this world, things can be more immediate than a few jibes from FR posters.

You know, I'm usually pretty even-tempered about this stuff, but things like this are really totally out of hand.

The moderator did finally zot the worst offender, but even the original post is offensive and full of falsehoods. And the thread has caused the anti-Catholics to gather like jackals, posting the usual lies that have been refuted over and over again (the guy who is convinced that the Pope personally approved the extermination of Croatian Jews and posts the same false information every time he appears has just showed up.)

One really gets tired of knocking down the same tired falsehoods over and over again.
