The transition from bring a longhaired hippy to being accepted in Christ Jesus is really remarkable. Please inform your friends about the new video, and let us have your comments or better still post them on the Google site.

What a great testimony.

Thanks for explaining your experience. My husband's experience was different.

Did you get the other point of view of the story?

Yeah, there's always two sides to a rubber hose beating:

Forehand and backhand.

And that's because the RC erroneously believes that their priestly baptism has conferred a salvation neither you nor I possess. Ex-Catholics are viewed as "lapsed Catholics," not Protestants.

Meanwhile I've been told, repeatedly, that Protestants cannot administer a valid Trinitarian baptism. I'll dig up the posts and go over the logic presented to me, if any Catholics want to persuade me otherwise.

other side of the story

I tried to get with the rubber hose company rep, but he said their priestly sales division was overloaded with orders.

Tell me you're kidding.

should've pinged you to #84

Let's see. My uncle was 9 at the time, and his mother had died about 6 months prior.

Rubber hose at a time like that isn't as good as the rack used to be. Where's the good equipment like they used to have? Drawn and quartered could be interesting.

Now, Dr. E. . . . we KNOW they can't have been priests!

Goodness--they'd have KNOWN something about the !!!EDIFICE!!!

And NO ONE who KNOWS ANYTHING REAL OR SERIOUS OR SUBSTANTIVE ABOUT

!!!THE EDIFICE!!! and the !!!MAGESTERICAL!!!

would EVER leave

Mary's . . . wellll . . . Mary's . . . uhhhh . . . lap.

Why, that would be ipso facto proof of insanity . . . or

chronic and genetic lap allergy or . . .

lactose intolerance of the worse sort . . . or . . .

So, CLEARLY the authors are lying . . . they must have been deacons or maybe temporary altar boys hired from amongst the children of the local lettuce pickers.

That's it. They could NOT have been REAL priests in the most high and lofty magesterically affirmmed, buttressed and fossilized Roman Universal Church. Just doesn't compute!

tilt, tilt, tilt, tilt, tilt, does not compute, tilt tilt tilt, would someone please unplug me, tilt, tilt, tilt. does not compute . . . Dr Smith . . . does not compute . . . Will Robinson . . . does not compute, does not compute . . .

I met--I think a former priest--on the mission field--a Protesty missionary--72-80+ years old . . .

He was fiercely hostile toward the Roman church. I'd almost flinch every time he mentioned them. And he KNEW plenty!

I am curious to know how a priest who uses a rubber hose somehow negates the fact that Christ established a Church 2000 years ago that would be called Catholic...

Someone told you wrong. I just finished a class for RCIA on this very subject. I have a handout that lists the denominations that are considered valid, another that are considered questionable, and a final that are NOT valid... Most Protestant groups who baptize with water and in the name of the Trinity are considered part of the Church and we don't rebaptize them. We do baptize Mormons and Unitarians and some others, but not most.

What a wonderfully Biblical response.

May God richly bless you and yours as you follow Christ in your chosen way.

Would love to see who's on that list. And if you want, I'll dig up the posts in question.

I would bet that he doesn't

= = =

Am a little unclear . . . is the bet that the wife is lying about hubby . . . or that hubby spent X or XX decades in the Roman Church and came away with total amnesia and is therefore lying himself?

That assessment, of course, without having dialogued with hubby; assessed anything directly or even via the wife about hubby . . .

just judging on the basis of wholesale bias, I guess, that hubby must be lying.

Impressive.

My parents and my brothers love and follow Our Lord, it is quite likely that if anyone is the goat, it's me.
= = =

From reading your posts, methinks you are far from being a goat of any sort.

Though I suppose there's an outside chance you could be a super soft and warm chasmere nanny. I don't really thinks so.

When I used to come home from college, he would wait for me at the end of the driveway, with tears in his eyes. I expected everyone to love me like that. Pretty stupid, huh?

What a marvelous treasure and prep for the Love of Father God.

Doesn't sound like there's any chance of any REACTIVE ATTACHMENT DISORDER in your life! Congrats.

Am envious. Though at peace with the route God had for me.

somehow negates

Actually, I don't think I even brought that up. However, I'm certain that my father believes that it proves that that is not the church that Jesus would have built.

But, you asked what good reason the priest could have had for beating my, at the time, 9 year old uncle with a rubber hose.

Tell me what you would accept as a good enough reason for a rubber hosing.

All this said, I doubted very early on a bit of what they were teaching me. When I returned to the church after being away for a couple of decades and I began to become better catechized my doubts only increased and I don't really think that's linked to my bad experiences. I don't believe all of what they teach. I don't believe it. And the orthodox priests I encountered were exactly in the same mold as those I knew as a kid, nothing really had changed and yet I had the sense because of Vatican II, that something had changed. It was schizophrenic.
= = =

What an apt description and analysis so congruent with my own observations from some distance and some from closer range.

To repeat . . .

While we do disagree . . . and do NOT believe that Christ really established the edifice known as the RC church . . .

EVEN IF HE DID . . .

The ANOINTING on that organization has LONNNNNNNNG ago been lifted wholesale.

This is not surprising. I don't know of many Protesty congregations with an enduring anointing on the ministry beyond a year and a half to a few years.

Humans like sameness; ruts; predictability. All kinds of traditions and customs of men quickly get built up and folks stop trying to hear God moment by moment and rely on traditions and customs--even take comfort IN THOSE

INSTEAD OF IN GOD. And the rot deepens from then on.

Holy Spirit usually just quietly walks away in terms of any significant PRESENCE.

It's been amazing to me, over 30 years of counseling mostly Christians . . . the number of parents who felt that

spare the rod and spoil the child was proof that God wanted them to

beat the very devil literally out of the child if it meant leaving a mass of bloody progoplasm where a child used to be.

Satan tends to love angry, vengeful violence. Even that justified as punishment.

I'm not against appropriate whacks on appropriate aged kids WHEN they work for that particular child to deal with defiance or rebellion.

But there's no excuse for the levels of abuse that commonly go on.
