San Fran. Archbishop “very happy” about plan regarding homosexual adoptions

Archbishop George Niederauer

San Francisco, Feb 7, 2007 / 07:25 pm (CNA).- Speaking to a local radio station on Sunday, San Francisco Archbishop George Niederauer said he is “really very happy” about a compromise plan that makes it possible for Catholic Charities adoption workers in his archdiocese to refer homosexual couples to adopt children.

Wednesday, the California Catholic Daily transcribed an on-air interview the Archbishop Niederauer gave to San Francisco’s KCBS, in which the archbishop lauded a plan which sees Catholic Charities employees working for a subsidiary of Family Builders by Adoption, an agency which provides adoptions to homosexual couples.

Asked his opinion of the agreement between Catholic Charities and Family Builders by Adoption, the archbishop commented that although Catholic adoption agencies could not remain open due to state law, “I’m really very happy with the decision made by the Catholic Charities CEO,” which, “was to work with the program on the Internet for finding homes for children, posting their pictures and being able to guide people who would be interested in this particular child to an adoption agency which could handle the situation.”

Catholic Charities San Francisco made the decision to close its adoption services after receiving clarification from the Vatican that Catholic organizations should not take part in the adoption of children to homosexual couples.  However, rather than removing itself completely from the adoption business, as its counterpart in Boston did a few months earlier, Catholic Charities San Francisco struck an agreement to pay workers who would labor for California Kids Connection, a web-referral service for the pro-homosexual-adoption Family Builders.

The archbishop said he respected the opinion of “those within the Church…who feel that even that is too much of an involvement, but I believe we have examined what we’re doing and vetted it very carefully, and what we’re really doing is putting potential adoptive parents in touch with adoption agencies that can help them.”

“The most important person in the adoption is the child,” Niederauer also said. “Important as it is for couples to be able to adopt a child if they want to, it’s most important of all that the child have a home.”

The archbishop noted that the Church’s teaching is that the child should have a mother and a father.

An orphanage would make a better 'home' than life in a homosexual setting.

No child should ever have to be placed in an environment of sexual deviance and depravity. That poor child will grow up with a very skewed sense of what is right and wrong, moral and immoral

At times I wonder how we have made it all these 2000 years.

How demoralizing to hear shepherds once again pretend that moral depravity is not so bad.

This is NOT good for the child. At some point the kids will know both that "My dads insert their penises into eachothers anuses for fun" and that "The Church helped my dads pretend that we ara a family knowing full well that they were doing that sodomy thing all along" - meanwhile the community already knows all that. This is so morally depraved that I can't comment further.

With modern technology, an orphanage is a much safer place too. At least they can monitor the children and make sure there is no abuse (or perversities) going on

“The most important person in the adoption is the child,”

Then why put the adopted kid in a "household" where both pretend-parents are homos??

I'm sure he considers it to be for "the good of the children". What he is doing in reality is allowing homosexuals to bring up completely innocent children, in what could best be described as, a deviant lifestyle. This is unconscionable.

Which is what the archbishop should have said. John Kerry obviously talks only with priests like this.

He looks pretty gay to me. That would explain his statement

He's a protege of Mahony ... I think that those who had misgivings about his appointment may have been right. He's almost 71 years old ... in 4 years, he must tender his resignation. Let us pray that he doesn't do any more damage before then.

The archbishop noted that the Church’s teaching is that the child should have a mother and a father.

The archbishop then should be summarily excommunicated for acting against Church edict.

This can NOT be okay with the Vatican! It still ends up being a Catholic institution helping gay couples adopt children. Ugh. Just UGH!!

Good grief! I know vacumn cleaners who would be better shepards than half our bishops.

There seriously need to be a new rule...If you can't say anything Catholic, don't say anything at all.

I truly don't know how this country is ever going to survive with men like this with their infected heart, mind and soul quite frankly.

It is beyond me how a supposed "man of God" can actually believe that sodomite adoption is good for children. It isn't! It never will be and will only help bring the further demise of this great nation.

I will not judge this mans heart, but his fruit is rotten. I believe that he is working for the other side.

OK, the name on the shingle outside the door is different, but Catholic money is still being funneled into this operation, no?

A classic politician's "compromise". When you peel away the makeup, you find that nothing has actually changed.

Still trying to serve two masters in SF, it appears.

Niederauer makes my Gay-dar siren ring off the wall.

Couldn't they look in the phone book, or Google?

INCREDIBLE!

If this is the case, then I suppose it would be okay for Catholic hospitals to start referring pregnant women to Planned Parenthood if they want an abortion. What a happy compromise!
