DePaul U. Blasted for Scheduling Pro-Homosexual Conference
Gathering to Focus on Homosexual-Affirming Teaching, Curriculum
By Jim Brown
November 14, 2006
(AgapePress) - The nation's largest Catholic university is under fire over its plan to host a conference aimed at expanding homosexuality-affirming teaching and curriculum on Catholic university campuses.
Next October DePaul University in Chicago will be hosting a two-day conference for professors and staff who are involved with "lesbian, bisexual, transgender, or queer" issues on Catholic campuses. The first "Out There" conference was held at Santa Clara University in 2005 and reportedly attracted 150 participants from more than 40 colleges and universities.
Patrick Reilly, president of the Cardinal Newman Society (CNS), a Catholic renewal group, says he is very troubled by the event and its location.
"The approach that these people are taking is to accept -- and in some cases even endorse -- the homosexual lifestyle and build an academic curriculum around the homosexual culture as if it's a distinctive and worthy culture to be studied," notes Reilly. "And that's obviously a serious concern for Catholics."
The Cardinal Newman Society is calling on DePaul president Thomas Holtschneider to drop the plan to host the pro-homosexual conference in October 2007. The CNS leader says Catholic educators like Holtschneider "must respond with aggressive efforts to restore an assumption of chastity among students, faculty, staff, administrators, and trustees" if they hope to overcome what Reilly describes as "an explosion of homosexual activity and activism" on Catholic campuses.
He cites such campus activities as "gay-straight clubs, drag shows, 'queer studies,' 'coming out' events" on campuses. Such activities, says Reilly, do not address the serious needs of students; and conferences like that scheduled at DePaul for next year pose a "real danger" to young men and women and should alarm and outrage Christian parents everywhere.
Reilly says Holtschneider needs to cancel the event if the administrator wants to uphold the school's Catholic identity.
"One would think that he would step in and insist that this is inappropriate in a Catholic institution," he says. "And beyond that, it's an inappropriate academic exercise," Reilly adds. "It's playing on the fringes of academic study, and it's not worthy of a reputable academic institution."
DePaul is the only Catholic institution in the country with a "Queer Studies" minor. However many other Catholic universities have "queer studies" courses that they hide under their Women's Studies and Gender Studies programs.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths. -2 Timothy 4:3-4

That's pretty much the DePaul motto anymore.
They'd better skate softly. The Pope has made noises about severing some of these collegiate dens-of-inquity from the church entirely, and DePaul might be one of the candidates for the chopping block.

Correct. This pro-homosexual movement has become a worldwide problem, however.

He won't do it alone. Cardinal George ought to say something, IMO.
From what I've read, DePaul is run by a lay board of trustees that is top-heavy with left-wing Chicago Democratic lawyer types (Daley machine, etc.), and a very left-wing faculty. The Vincentian priest who is officially "president" just rubber stamps their goofyness.

Bummer! I was a huge Blue Demons fan back when I lived near Chicago. Coach Ray Meyers went to St. Cecilia's in Des Plaines. We sat behind him all the time.
St. Vincent DePaul pray for us!

Seems like the RCs have a wee problem in dealing with RC homosexuals in the ranks. The Church has been having "wee problems" like this for 2,000 years. It's a badge of honor and a fulfillment of a Divine promise of Jesus to the Apostles.
Nevertheless, it's great to see you all concerned about the Catholic Church's battles with the hedonists. Your support is much appreciated. I guess when you're only a peripheral figure in this war, the battles of the major players take on a certain fascination.
At least that's how it appears. There's seldom any positive news on here of your own confessions' contributions to this war. Only exultation about the vicissitudes of the Catholic Church's battles. And if you have no problems with the militant homosexuals it's either because they don't consider you to be an enemy of any significance or you've already capitulated.
I guess it's true what they say about the negativity and misery of Calvinism. It must be sad to define yourself only in opposition to another's profession. Your tagline is a fine example. I don't see too many Catholics whose taglines are devoted to Calvin or Luther. That's because we have an identity which is sufficient in and of itself.
Let's see you all start to paint a positive picture of your own faith which stands entirely alone and doesn't rely on any reference to what "that lot" are up to.

So why isn't he disciplined? You'd have to ask his superiors. (I suggest bringing maple syrup and butter to put on their waffles.)

They have none; their whole identity is wrapped up in their repudiation of Catholicism. Some of them even seem to be proud of that fact.

I believe they said the same thing to Jeremiah. Perhaps it isn't negativity or misery that we're painting but simply sounding an alarm bell. In typical fashion the Church willing to say their having a "wee" problem sounds much like the skipper of the Titanic saying they hit a "wee" iceburg.

You guys are hilarious. I sometimes enjoy your hard nosed denial of the goodness of the Catholic Church. If you ever do actually realize that Catholics are on your side, I know Christ will have gained, rather than slipped.
Please come out of the 16th century. Today is a different world. Christ does not call us to point fingers at each other but to see the goodness of himself in each other. Is any of us perfect in his relationship and understanding of Christ, the God-man? I know I have plenty to learn. And through His grace I hope to continue to develop closer to Him.

Exeunt Sodom.
Lk 11:19 "And if I by Beelzebub cast out devils, by whom do your sons cast them out? therefore shall they be your judges."
What grace have you that makes you assured that you are looking at Sodom?
Rev 20:12 "And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works."
In your interpretation are the books that are opened Anti-Catholic Chick Tracts?
