Catholic Meditation: To the Immaculate Conception on this Election Day
Various | 11/7/06 | Knitting a Conundrum

Posted on 11/07/2006 9:09:52 AM PST by Knitting A Conundrum

Immaculate and SorrowfulMichael Brown at Spirit Daily reminds us that  the "Most Reverend John Carroll, of Baltimore, America's first Roman Catholic bishop, consecrated the newly-created nation under the protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary with the title of the Immaculate Conception in 1792 and decades later Pope Pius IX formalized Carroll's acclamation -- proclaiming the Immaculate Conception as the patroness of the United States in 1847."

Knowing this, I invite you to join me in prayer for Our Lady's prayerful intercession in the election today, that the outcome may be according to the Father's will, that the rights of the unborn and the vunerable be protected, the sanctity of marriage be strengthened, and that we as a nation may reject the darkness sweeping across the world both in the waves of terror from the Islamic Jihadists and from those who would reject God and bring us all down in some dark decadent image of a faithless world.

O Heart who knows well how to love,
as generous as human heart can be,
channel of God's grace for this sad world,
ark of the covenant,
who carried within you the one who created you,
You who offered your love,
Your generous heart,
no matter the cost, the sorrow, the grief,
or how many swords would pass through
simply because the Lord asked it,
simply because you loved greatly,
Simply because that was you.

Mother of my Lord,
Immaculata,
Heaven's brightest rose,
Great-heart,
Full of Grace,
blessed,
Pray for us now, and at the hour of our deaths,
Amen.

O Most gracious Virgin Mary, beloved Mother of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer, intercede with him for us that we be granted the favor which we petition for so earnestly today in this prayer…O Mother of the Word Incarnate, we feel animated with confidence that your prayers in our behalf will be graciously heard before the throne of God. O Glorious Mother of God, in memory of your joyous Immaculate Conception, hear our prayers and obtain for us our petitions.

- that the hand our Our Father guide our country during this upcoming election,

- that those who would disrupt and disturb the heritage of freedom and truth be restrained,

- that the hand of God guide, direct and determine our leaders this election cycle and always.

O Mary of the Immaculate Conception, Mother of Christ, you had influence with your Divine Son while upon this earth; you have the same influence now in heaven. Pray for us and obtain for us from him the granting of my petition if it be the Divine Will. Amen

Oh Lord, in your mercy, grant the voters of America Your Holy Spirit so that they may be able to discern between right and wrong and vote for what is right. Amen.

O Mother of Sorrows, well acquainted with tears,
Who knows what a grief it is when one soul dies
because of the violence of another,
to thee we cry, O Mother of mercy,
who feels the sorrow of the loss when one life is twisted
for the gain of another,
when the word that leads a soul to sin
is spoken by another,
when one life is taken in expdiency for the comfort of another.

To Thee to we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping,
O Mater Dolorosa,
You who stood at the foot of the cross
and watched what your Son was willing to suffer
for each of these hurt and broken and cast-off lives,
lives betrayed,
lives wrecke by the wages of sin.

O Sorrowful Mother, Help of Christians,
Teach us to join our tears with yours,
here at the foot of the cross,
our heartache with yours,
our compassion and our prayers with yours,
learning as you taught, "to do whatever He tells you to,"
to say with you, "Be it done to me according to Your word,"
until we may learn to see the world as your Son would have us see it,
to see each soul as a child of the Father,
to become the tool in His hand open to the call of mercy.
and may we spread his message by our lives, ours hearts, and our lips,
for the glory of His name.

O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
Pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our deaths, Amen.

Prayer for the Government

Prepared by
Archbishop John Carroll
November 10, 1791

We pray, Thee O Almighty and Eternal God! Who through Jesus Christ hast revealed Thy glory to all nations, to preserve the works of Thy mercy, that Thy Church, being spread through the whole world, may continue with unchanging faith in the confession of Thy Name.

We pray Thee, who alone art good and holy, to endow with heavenly knowledge, sincere zeal, and sanctity of life, our chief bishop, Pope n., the Vicar of Our Lord Jesus Christ, in the government of his Church; our own bishop, n., all other bishops, prelates, and pastors of the Church; and especially those who are appointed to exercise amongst us the functions of the holy ministry, and conduct Thy people into the ways of salvation.

We pray Thee O God of might, wisdom, and justice! Through whom authority is rightly administered, laws are enacted, and judgment decreed, assist with Thy Holy Spirit of counsel and fortitude the President of these United States, that his administration may be conducted in righteousness, and be eminently useful to Thy people over whom he presides; by encouraging due respect for virtue and religion; by a faithful execution of the laws in justice and mercy; and by restraining vice and immorality. Let the light of Thy divine wisdom direct the deliberations of Congress, and shine forth in all the proceedings and laws framed for our rule and government, so that they may tend to the preservation of peace, the promotion of national happiness, the increase of industry, sobriety, and useful knowledge; and may perpetuate to us the blessing of equal liberty.

We pray for his excellency, the governor of this state , for the members of the assembly, for all judges, magistrates, and other officers who are appointed to guard our political welfare, that they may be enabled, by Thy powerful protection, to discharge the duties of their respective stations with honesty and ability.

We recommend likewise, to Thy unbounded mercy, all our brethren and fellow citizens throughout the United States, that they may be blessed in the knowledge and sanctified in the observance of Thy most holy law; that they may be preserved in union, and in that peace which the world cannot give; and after enjoying the blessings of this life, be admitted to those which are eternal.

Finally, we pray to Thee, O Lord of mercy, to remember the souls of Thy servants departed who are gone before us with the sign of faith and repose in the sleep of peace; the souls of our parents, relatives, and friends; of those who, when living, were members of this congregation, and particularly of such as are lately deceased; of all benefactors who, by their donations or legacies to this Church, witnessed their zeal for the decency of divine worship and proved their claim to our grateful and charitable remembrance. To these, O Lord, and to all that rest in Christ, grant, we beseech Thee, a place of refreshment, light, and everlasting peace, through the same Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior. Amen.

...Immaculate Conception as the patroness of the United States....

**
Interesting. I probably should have known that, but I did not.

Thank you for this post. I have joined in the prayer for our nation this day.

A great sentiment and last night I prayed for His will and St. Michael's help for our nation today in the elections at home and our troops abroad.

God Bless these United States.

Thank you for the lovely prayer. Praying the rosary to the Blessed Mother; asked for intercession from St. Jude and St. Anthony. Called on St. Michael to defend us in battle.

O Blessed Mother,
O Lady of Consolation,
O Help of Christians,
This day be with those as they cast their ballots
who are forced to choose
between the good they know they should do
and the dark they have been told is a more important truth,
dressed up with the gaudy clothes of evil
they have been told are fairness and tolerance and more important.
Ora pro nobis!

Never was it known
that anyone who turned to you for aid
was left unaided.
O Blessed Mother,
O Lady of Consolation,
O Help of Christians,
Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,
and for the nation this election day,
and those struggling to see the light from the darkness
that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Amen.

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help or sought your intercession was left unaided. Inspired with with confidence, I fly to you, O virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.

Blessed Mother, I add my prayers to KAC's on this election day. Please keep your protection surrounding this country, the polling booths and the voters. Keep eyes and hearts open to the will of your son, Jesus.
