Actually, the Great Tribulation that came upon the generation Jesus spoke to, the Jewish War, ratified His prophetic warnings to those who heard Him, and His status as Messiah.

I believe it was Jack Chick in one of his pamphlets that boldly said the return of christ would "BE IN YOUR LIFETIME"!
Consider the source.
I also heard Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel use the 1948 date and the fig tree as a starting point.

It could also possibly be the generation after the six day war in 1963, I believe. I read that 'theory' once myself. We'll soon know, I think.
