“Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad” Proverbs 12:25

Low spirits, gloominess, dejection, sadness, a decrease in force, or activity, or amount, a decrease in functional activity. An emotional condition either normal or pathological characterized by discouragement, a feeling of inadequacy, the act of humbling abasement as a depression of pride. Abasement, reduction, sinking, fall, humiliation, dejection, melancholy.

Major Depression Facts Major depression is the No.1 psychological disorder in the western world.(1) It is growing in all age groups, in virtually every community, and the growth is seen most in the young, especially teens. I am taking the opportunity this Shabbat to touch on a subject that is plaguing many people, that is DEPRESSION. Nearly everywhere that we go to minister, The Lord gives me a Word of Knowledge concerning depression and suicide. Many people have been miraculously set free from depression and hopelessness as we bring forth The MAP Revolution Message to the nations. Some times people that have suffered from over 50 years of chronic depression are able to smile and rejoice for the FIRST time in their lives!

One such case happened to us in Ecuador. As we were leaving from the Guayaquil airport after and intense time of ministry in Ecuador, some people came to bid us good-bye and among them there was a middle age toothless lady. She was smiling from ear to ear and had no front teeth at all!!! She made a considerable effort to come to the airport from a remote village and without any private transport. Her purpose for coming was to show us her “toothless smile” as a sign of appreciation for our ministry. She told us that she had suffered from chronic depression for over 50 years and that she was healed under our ministry and could now genuinely smile and be happy for the FIRST time in 50 years!!! Needless to say we were overjoyed and tears ran down our cheeks as we received this marvelous testimony as a gift from heaven and as full reward for our time spent in Ecuador. What a privilege it is to make people SMILE and rejoice from their hearts after so many years of suffering!

In one of our meetings in Mexico, as I was asking for people to give their testimonies of healing, a young man came to answer the altar call for salvation, tears streaming down his face as The Lord had healed him from depression right there on the spot. His testimony caused around 100 people to answer the altar call for salvation on that day! The lady that brought him to our meeting was HIS OWN CHRISTIAN THERAPIST that in desperation hoped for a miracle for her own patient! What medicine could not do, The Holy Spirit did it in a split second! To Him is all the glory forever!

I am not disclaiming in this article the use of drugs and medications in certain cases. Psychiatric help can be as a ¨life boat¨ to a drowning person. Many of my loved ones have been greatly helped by medication, however if you know the root cause of depression you can live a life of freedom from this plague that is a major attack on modern day man.

My own testimony It is in my weakness that YAH (The Lord) uses me in the area of depression as nearly every member of my immediate family has been plagued from depression and one even committed suicide due to it. I have suffered the deep distress of catering to people in serious, critical depressions and mental disease all my life. As I am writing these very lines my own son who is a soldier in the Israeli Army is suffering from depression that has been caused by pressure and anxiety. As a mother I am going through a very painful time, yet in the midst of my own pain I feel compelled to write this letter so that all those that are suffering from depression can receive HOPE and a WAY OUT!

A family curse that is repeated throughout the generations due to witchcraft, involvement in the occult, Kabbala and the active membership in secret lodges such as the Free Masons, Odd Fellows, etc…It can also manifest as a “genetical chemical imbalance” (Deuteronomy 5:8, 28:28,29) A root of bitterness, hidden anger and unforgiveness. (Matthew 18:34,35) Fear, anxiety and stress. (Proverbs 12:25, 1 John 4:18) A serious disappointment in life such as broken promises, divorce or a broken relationship, the death of a loved one or any frustrated expectation. “Hope deferred makes the heart sick” (Proverbs 13:12) Unresolved grief. (Genesis 37:34-36) Vitamin and nutritional deficiency

TREATMENT FOR DEPRESSION 1. Repentance: In 2 Chronicles 7:14 we have the antidote for all sickness, be it spiritual, emotional or physical,

If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.

*Turn from our wicked ways of mistrust, and fear rather than faith, disobedience to God’s Commandments and any unforgiveness and hidden anger. Forgiveness is a KEY issue, forgive yourself, others and even God!

“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Matthew 6:14,15

2. Confess your sins to someone you trust that has a holy walk with God and have that person pray for you.

Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. James 5:16

“He sent His word and healed them and delivered them from their destructions.” Psalms 107:20

“My son give attention to My word, incline your ear to my sayings do not let them depart from your eyes, keep them in the midst of your heart, for they are life to those who find them, and health to ALL their flesh” Proverbs 4:20-22

Make for yourself a Word Prayer of at least 5-7 scripture promises, declare and meditate on those scripture promises day and night and at least 3 times a day! Record this scripture prayer and listen to it while you are driving, speaking it out loud and also silently to yourself all day long.

“The work of righteousness will be peace and the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever” Isaiah 32:17

“The actions of those that are made just by doing what is right in the eyes of God will be shalom, wellbeing and wholeness in every way; And those who worship Him according to His Commandments (Holy Worship!) will be quietness and absolute confidence forever.”

Right in wise manner, upright, virtuous, acting in a just way, morally right, good, excellent, satisfying, pleasant, authentic, Godly, just, upright, virtuous.

Our righteousness comes from having been made right with YAH (God) through Y’shua’s blood sacrifice and it is to be followed by obedience to His Commandments and by a right walk with Him. When we are made right with Elohim through Y’shua, in a forgiven state we then begin a personal walk with Him, a walk of loving obedience to His Commandments as written in our hearts by The Holy Spirit. (Jeremiah 31:31-33)

If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. John 15:10

Walking in love, obedience and forgiveness is an antidote for fear and thus fights and defeats the torment of depression.

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. 1 John 4:18

5. Total trust in Elohim-God, His Word, His Plan and His Character. Trust is the antidote against anxiety, one of the major root causes of depression in the 21st century. Trust develops through continual prayer and meditation of the Word of God.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through the Messiah Y’shua. Philippians 4:6,7

This is actually a commandment- “Be anxious for NOTHING” and the way to achieve it is by,

Most people are anxious because they lead a prayer-less and unthankful life, so they are always revolving around themselves and their own problems.

You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness, To the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent. O Yahveh my God, I will give thanks to You forever. Psalm 30:11-12

7. Inner Healing is the key for inner soul and heart pain. Inner healing happens when we acknowledge the pain and let the Spirit of Truth and the Word of God bring light to the most hidden corners of our soul.

Then Y’shua said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” John 8:31,32,

“The Spirit of Yahveh GOD is upon Me, Because Yahveh has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of Yahveh, And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn, To console those who mourn in Zion, To give them beauty for ashes, The oil of joy for mourning, The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; That they may be called trees of righteousness, The planting of Yahveh, that He may be glorified.” Isaiah 61:1-3.

Inner healing can happen when someone else prays for you or when you pray and let YAH work on your soul to bring truth and light to your deepest painful emotions.

8. Conventional treatment- In some cases there is a need to receive conventional medication and drug treatment before a person can be settled enough to allow for God’s word and spirit to work. In these cases by all means receive treatment and then apply all the rest.

9. Deliverance from demons- is an important part in defeating depression as in many cases there is demonic activity involved in depression, however depression is not only caused by evils spirits and it is important to treat spirit, soul and body!

Then His fame went throughout all Syria; and they brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon-possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them. Matthew 4:24

10. Nutritional supplements are very important in order to treat depression and most particularly vitamin B complex and Vitamin C, however for a more thorough list consult with a professional nutritionist and health consultant. There are also some herbs that can be helpful such as St. John’s Wort, Chamomille, Valerian Root, etc…It is also important to change your nutritional habits to healthy habits decreasing white sugar, processed foods, chemicals such as nitrates and MSG.

For thus says Yahveh GOD, the Holy One of Israel: “ In returning and rest you shall be saved; In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.” Isaiah 30:15A

Moonless Trust

Some of you are perhaps feeling that you are voyaging just now on a moonless sea. Uncertainty surrounds you. There seem to be no signs to follow. Perhaps you feel about to be engulfed by loneliness. There is no one to whom you can speak of your need.

Amy Carmichael wrote of such a feeling when, as a missionary of twenty-six, she had to leave Japan because of poor health, then travel to China for recuperation, but then realized God was telling her to go to Ceylon. (All this preceded her going to India, where she stayed for fifty-three years.) I have on my desk her original handwritten letter of August 25, 1894, as she was en route to Colombo. "All along, let us remember, we are not asked to understand, but simply to obey.... On July 28, Saturday, I sailed. We had to come on board on Friday night, and just as the tender (a small boat) where were the dear friends who had come to say goodbye was moving off, and the chill of loneliness shivered through me, like a warm love-clasp came the long-loved lines--'And only Heaven is better than to walk with Christ at midnight, over moonless seas.' I couldn't feel frightened then. Praise Him for the moonless seas--all the better the opportunity for proving Him to be indeed the El Shaddai, 'the God who is Enough."'

Let me add my own word of witness to hers and to that of the tens of thousands who have learned that He is indeed Enough. He is not all we would ask for (if we were honest), but it is precisely when we do not have what we would ask for, and only then, that we can clearly perceive His all-sufficiency. It is when the sea is moonless that the Lord has become my Light.

Hear the Echo?, by Larry Davies

Deep in the mountains of West Virginia, there lived a young mother, Ellen and her little boy, David. One day, David was playing basketball in the living room. He knew it was wrong, but nothing would happen, right? Wrong! The basketball hit the crystal lamp, a precious heirloom from Ellen's parents, and the lamp fell off the table and shattered on the floor with a loud CRASH!

David knew he was in trouble and needed to do something quickly. Ellen came running into the living room, looked at the scattered pieces of her precious lamp and then looked at David. Before she could say anything, however, David suddenly began screaming: "I hate you! I hate you!"

David knew this was a really dumb thing to say, but he couldn't stop screaming, so he ran out the back door through his back yard, toward a ledge overlooking a huge canyon that stretched out for miles below, still yelling at the top of his lungs, "I hate you. I hate you!"

Suddenly a loud, booming voice answered, "I hate you! I hate you!"

David stopped, looked around in terror and then flew back toward the house as fast as his little legs would carry him and into his mother's arms crying, "Mommy, mommy, someone hates me!"

Ellen quietly comforted her little boy and then walked with him to the ledge. "Now David, I want you to yell as loud as you can, 'I love you! I love you!'"

David hardly finished shouting the words when the booming voice replied, "I hate you!" (Oops, I just wanted to see if you were alert.) The voice actually replied, "I love you! I love you!"

You don't need to be an expert on atmospheric conditions to know that David heard an echo. Funk & Wagnall's Dictionary defines echo as "the repetition of a sound by the reflection of sound waves from an opposing surface." Definition two broadens the meaning of echo to include our relationship with others: "The repetition or reproduction of the views, style, etc., of another."

What sort of echo are you creating?

People often respond to our attitudes much like an echo. If we are surly and mean, then we can expect much of the same from anyone with whom we come in contact. Of course, the same is true when we treat others with genuine love and respect.

Our greatest challenge as Christians is to live a life others would want to echo. What sort of echo are you creating? Jesus said, "This is what I say to all who will listen to me: Love your enemies, and be good to everyone who hates you. Ask God to bless anyone who curses you, and pray for everyone who is cruel to you." (Luke 6:27-28 CEV)

Isn't this the real challenge for each of us? Aren't we to live as an echo of Jesus Christ?

There is an old story about a visitor inquiring of a pastor if his church was a decent place to attend. "How do you like where you are attending now?" asked the pastor. "The people are arrogant. The minister is boring. Frankly, I hate the place!" the visitor replied.

"Yes," sighed the minister. "You'll find this church can be the same way!"

Several weeks later, another visitor came and asked the same question about the church and the pastor replied with the same question: "How do you like where you are attending now?" "The people are kind. The minister is interesting. I absolutely love going there!" this visitor replied. "Yes," sighed the wise pastor. "You'll find this church can be the same way!"

Wait a minute: Did you just hear an echo?

A Long Time Coming

It has been some time since I have been instructed to release a Word. In the recent weeks of traveling in the American Church this Word has been stirring within me. The question that stirred this Word was “Why hasn’t Yahweh judged what is going on in the Church”. His response was “First I tested and proved leaders now I am testing my people, this is why I have left many corrupt leaders in place”.

Then this morning a friend sent me information concerning preachers who were selling vitamins, health foods, and everything else they could peddle on TV and from the pulpit. As soon as I read again about this including the 2 to 3 million dollar homes these men live in and the Bentleys they drive this word came. Be sure of this Yaweh is not pleased with all of this while a world of lost souls perish because of the consumption of the Church upon themselves. Soon Yeshua will spew out this luke warm Church and you should make sure you are not in it.

Want to know what kind of Pastor you should be following?

You are being tested people of Yahweh. Have an ear for what the Spirit is saying and cry out to Him for an understanding of His Ways which will lead you into His paths. Then ask Him to teach you to do His will. Do not be surprised when you do this if you do see Yeshua. He may look like a man but He will be the shepherd inside the man. Then follow this one and assemble around him. Then never forget that to stay where you belong and not be deceived again will be to stay accountable to His word and hold one another accountable as well. Even the priest is accountable to the Word of Yahweh.

This then is the Word I received.

Plainly speaking

It's like a web of deceit and fraud. The priests lie in wait in the bushes for His people and rob and steal from the pockets of those they were sent to bless and lead into a land of milk and honey. Instead they lead them into the pig pens and tell the sheep that this pasture was meant for them while the sheep wallow in dung thinking it is all good.

One day a shepherd came and kicked the pigpen walls down. He Said the kingdom of heaven suffers violence in this pigpen so I have Violently kicked the wall down to lead My sheep into the pastures of The Kingdom of heaven.

Then came the judaizers with their commercials and products and built the walls up again. They kept the sheep in the Pigpens of the Church of Dachau and cut the wool off the sheep as often as they could.

Shekels and more shekels they did make until their houses grew while the sheep had none. More and more they put on their tables while the sheep had little to eat.

Then one day the Master of the House came Home.

His question was not directed at the shepherd’s but at the sheep "Why did you allow this leading into dung when I had clearly set you free?” f

"Your fears did not allow you to see that the pigpens walls were constructs of your own imagination. You were too lazy to follow my ways so you remained captive because it had become comfortable. You knew that if the priest didn't look like me then he wasn't. Yet you followed and lay where you are because it is easier than getting up out of your dung and following me."

"You see to follow me you have to leave your dung behind and you have become very comfortable with your dung. You stink! I told you that my sheep would only follow my voice and not the voice of another so why is it that you follow another?"

"Who are you then?"

"I guess that you are not my sheep for you have followed another into a hell of your own making and then blame it upon the one who led you here."

"If you would follow me then turn and leave all that you think is church and follow me upon a path that is lonely and barren but full and free."

"Follow me into the kingdom of milk and honey. Is it hard ?

You better believe it because it will cause you to leave everything that appears real behind and follow me."

"How you a ask?"

"Stop watching the commercials and turn off the broadcast of these priests from hell. Turn on my Word and turn up the Holy Spirit and listen to the inward One. Then you will have to follow when no one else will".

"You will have to go where my word tells you. You will have to make decisions to leave the pigpen and understand that when my Word says obey it is because not to do so will build a wall called pigpen. "

"My Word and My ways are not to be negotiated away by your understanding or fears. My Word sets free the pig and returns him to the path that brings him into my vineyard."

"Come away with me then My love and leave behind all that deceives. "

Understand the compromise no matter how small is deception."

"For all that deceives does not believe that I AM Lord. Set yourself free from this kingdom of illusion by knowing that I already set you free from it 2000 years ago. Put upon your eyes the glasses of my Word and walk without compromise in what you see. Put My word in your mouth and tell the others to come and follow me."

"Then when you cannot tell the difference between the priest you see and me you will know that you are following the right one. The in him you will see me the true shepherd. Follow then me in him and you will find yourself in me."

Subject: PROPHETIC MESSAGE FOR SUKKOT 2006

THE RESERVED ROOM

In the house where I live on the Mountains of Jerusalem, there are 4 bedrooms and one basement. Very often we have people that visit us and stay to sleep overnight. Some of them are the members of our own ministry team. One of those rooms is very close to my matrimonial bedroom and my prayer room in the UPPER LEVEL OF THE HOUSE. This is a RESERVED ROOM IN A PLACE OF HONOR. It is ALWAYS reserved for my natural children that generally do not live with me. And even when my home gets filled with people from all the nations of the earth (which happens very often in our home!), my children can still arrive ANY DAY and AT ANY TIME and make use of their reserved room. Even if I have guests, I would kindly ask them to relocate because this special room is reserved for my natural children that can arrive at any moment.

In The Father’s House there is always a room that is reserved for His natural children, The Jewish People. Some times this room appears empty as if its owners will never arrive. Some times it looks like other occupants have usurped their place as the doctrine based on Replacement Theology states. But this is nothing but fantasy! Because The Father is always yearning and waiting for the return of His natural children, The Jews! And WOE to those that will claim to usurp their place!

The Reserved Room will very soon be filled with His Jewish People. In the same way that my guests and TEAM need to be flexible to accommodate my children when they come, so the Church world wide needs to move on and make place for them!

An urgent readjustment of doctrine in the Church in order to make space for God’s Natural Children, The Jews . THEIR RESERVED ROOM IS ON THE UPPER FLOOR IN THE PLACE OF HONOR reserved for the Natural Children of Israel. Those believers from the nations that will be willing to ADJUST to this change will please The Father and will be marvelously blessed and restored.

I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Genesis 12:3

Those that because of arrogance and jealousy will refuse this CALL TO CHANGE and REFORMATION will loose their own place In The House.. Yahveh is getting ready to receive His Jewish Children. Many of them will have positions of honor in the End Time Ecclesia-Church. Are you getting ready to adjust?

I say then, have they stumbled that they should fall? Certainly not! But through their fall, to provoke them to jealousy, salvation has come to the Gentiles. Now if their fall is riches for the world, and their failure riches for the Gentiles, how much more their fullness! For I speak to you Gentiles; inasmuch as I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry, if by any means I may provoke to jealousy those who are my flesh and save some of them.

For if their being cast away is the reconciling of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead? For if the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy; and if the root is holy, so are the branches. And if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and with them became a partaker of the root and fatness of the olive tree, do not boast against the branches.

But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you. You will say then, “Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.” Well said. Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be haughty, but fear. For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either. Therefore consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off. And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.

For if you were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, who are natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree? For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: Romans 11:11-26

Happy Sukkot Feast!

‘On the fifteenth day of the seventh month you shall have a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work, and you shall keep a feast to Yahveh seven days. You shall present a burnt offering, an offering made by fire as a sweet aroma to Yahveh: thirteen young bulls, two rams, and fourteen lambs in their first year. They shall be without blemish. Numbers 29:12-13

This Erev Shabbat (Friday Eve) we are entering into seven days of the most joyous celebration of the year - that is The Feast of Tabernacles (Booths) or by its real name SUKKOT! This feast also marks the birth of the Messiah Y’shua as well as the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. There is so much joy attached to this Feast that we need to open our hearts TO TAKE IT ALL !

“Speak to the children of Israel , saying: ‘The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the Feast of Tabernacles for seven days to Yahveh. On the first day there shall be a holy convocation. You shall do no customary work on it. For seven days you shall offer an offering made by fire to Yahveh. On the eighth day you shall have a holy convocation, and you shall offer an offering made by fire to Yahveh. It is a sacred assembly, and you shall do no customary work on it. Leviticus 23:34-36

Characteristics

Seven days of celebration and on the 8th day a special Holy Convocation called “Simcha Torah” or the Joy of the Torah.

The first and the 8th days are Holy Convocations

It is one of the Pilgrim Feasts

We are commanded to dwell, sit and spend time inside of booths (Sukkot)

This is the Feast of ingathering of the LAST HARVEST

Y’shua was born during this Feast and on the 8th day He was circumcised

Because of the amazing joy and celebration, it is like a Wedding Feast

The Feast is marked by more sacrifices and offerings than any other feast

All the nations are COMMANDED to celebrate it

We invite all of you in the nations to join us in celebration!

And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, Yahveh of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. Zechariah 14:16

For Kad-Esh MAP Ministries in the Mountains of Jerusalem this is a season of MUCH REJOICING!

Our son Yuval has remarkably recovered and will be allowed out of the hospital to celebrate the Sukkot dinner with us. His recovery is so DRAMATIC that he is writing a chapter of Bishop’s new book called “Defeating Depression”! He will be released from the hospital very soon to begin a new life. He has learned so much through this that we and the doctors are in AWE . Thank you for all your prayers and please do not stop them. Very soon you will receive a full report!

Our assistants, Rev. Daniel Flueckiger and sister Karen Wilson have already married before a judge in Cyprus on Yom Shlishi (Tuesday), the 3rd of October 2006 and will be receiving the MAP blessing in a ceremony held in Jerusalem on the 17th of October. This is a MAP Revolution Wedding!

Our beloved team members in charge of the Spanish department in Venezuela are making preliminary Alyah and relocating to Israel , arriving on Erev Sukkot (Sukkot Eve) in order to continue the ministry from here and to raise up PDT-Prophetic Dance Theatre! Kad-Esh MAP Ministries welcomes Jacques, Adriana, Clara and Camila. (Gabriela already joined us two months ago).

We are so excited and blessed to see so many breakthroughs all around!

Rabbi Baruch who used to be a pipe fitter says that the pipe fitters creed is this “We have done so much for so long, with very little that we now qualify to do everything with nothing!” We can identify with this!

We have been battling for nearly 18 years against all odds to bring the Message of Repentance from Replacement Theology and Restoration to the Apostolic Jewish Roots of the faith to all nations, have written books, established works and raised up thousands of disciples, have helped to restore marriages and families, have had thousands of miraculous healings .... Don't Forfeit Your Peace

It would not be possible to exaggerate the importance hymns and spiritual songs have played in my spiritual growth. One of the latter, familiar to most of you, has this line: "O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear, all because we do not carry everything to God in prayer" (Joseph Scriven). Prayerlessness is one of many ways by which we can easily forfeit the peace God wants us to have. I've been thinking of some other ways. Here's a sampling:

Resent God's ways.
Worry as much as possible.
Pray only about things you can't manage by yourself.
Refuse to accept what God gives.
Look for peace elsewhere than in Him.
Try to rule your own life.
Doubt God's word.
Carry all your cares.

If you'd rather not forfeit your peace, here are eight ways to find it (antidotes to the above eight):

"Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them" (Psalm 119:165 KJV).

"Circumstances are the _expression of God's will," wrote Bishop Handley Moule.

"Don't worry about anything whatever" (Philippians 4:6, PHILLIPS).

"In everything make your requests known to God in prayer and petition with thanksgiving. Then the peace of God... will guard your hearts" (Philippians 4:6,7, NEB).

"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me... and you will find rest" (Matthew 11:29, NIV).

"Peace is my parting gift to you, my own peace, such as the world cannot give" (John 14 27, NEB).

"Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts" (Colossians 3:15, NIV).

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing" (Romans 15:13, KJV).

"Cast all your cares on him for you are his charge" (1 Peter 5:7, NEB).

"Grant, O Lord my God, that I may never fall away in success or in failure; that I may not be prideful in prosperity nor dejected in adversity. Let me rejoice only in what unites us and sorrow only in what separates us. May I strive to please no one or fear to displease anyone except Yourself. May I seek always the things that are eternal and never those that are only temporal. May I shun any joy that is without You and never seek any that is beside You. O Lord, may I delight in any work I do for You and tire of any rest that is apart from You. My God, let me direct my heart towards You, and in my failings, always repent with a purpose of amendment." --St. Thomas Aquinas

The Incarnation is a Thing Too Wonderful

Some things are simply too wonderful for explanation--the navigational system of the Arctic tern, for example. How does it find its way over twelve thousand miles of ocean from its nesting grounds in the Arctic to its wintering grounds in the Antarctic! Ornithologists have conducted all sorts of tests without finding the answer. Instinct is the best they can offer--no explanation at all, merely a way of saying that they really have no idea. A Laysan albatross was once released 3,200 miles from its nest in the Midway Islands. It was back home in ten days.

The migration of birds is a thing too wonderful.

When the angel Gabriel told Mary, "You will be with child and give birth to a son," she had a simple question about the natural: How can this be, since I am a virgin?!

The answer had to do not with the natural but with something far more mysterious than the tern's navigation--something, in fact, entirely supernatural: "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the Most High will overshadow you" (Luke 1:35, NIV). That was too wonderful, and Mary was silent. She had no question about the supernatural. She was satisfied with God's answer.

At the end of the book of Job, instead of answering his questions, God revealed to Job the mystery of Who He was. Then Job despised himself. "I have uttered what I did not understand,/ things too wonderful for me, which I did not know" (Job 42:3, RSV).

In one of David's "songs of ascents" he wrote, "My heart is not proud, O Lord,/ my eyes are not haughty;/ I do not concern myself with great matters/ or things too wonderful for me./ But I have stilled and quieted my soul; / like a weaned child with its mother,/ like a weaned child is my soul within me" (Psalm 131:1,2, NIV).

A close and fretful inquiry into how spiritual things "work" is an exercise in futility. ....an awful waste of energy. God knows how. Why should I bother my head about it if I've turned it over to Him? If the Word of the Lord to us is that we are "predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with his purpose" (Ephesians 1:11, NIV), we may apprehend this fact by faith alone. By believing that God means just what He says, and by acting upon the word (faith always requires action), we apprehend it--we take hold of it, we make it our own. We cannot make it our own by mere reason--"I don't see how such-and-such an incident can possibly have anything to do with any divine 'plan.'"

Why should we see how! Is it not sufficient that we are told that it is so? We need not see. We need only believe and proceed on the basis of that assured fact.

Do you understand what is going on in the invisible realm of your life with God? Do you see how the visible things relate to the hidden Plan and Purpose? Probably not. As my second husband Addison Leitch used to say, "You can't unscrew the Inscrutable."

But you do see at least one thing, maybe a very little thing, that He wants you to do. "Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult [other translations say too hard, too wonderful] for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven.... nor is it beyond the sea.... no, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it" (Deuteronomy 30:11-14, NIV).

Let it suffice you, as it sufficed Mary, to know that God knows. If it's time to work, get on with your job. If it's time to go to bed, go to sleep in peace. Let the Lord of the Universe do the worrying.

The Supremacy of Christ

Last October I received a copy of the Auca (now known as Waorani) translation of the New Testament. The orthography has been greatly altered since my day, so I can't read much of it now, but leafing through the pages I thought long, long thoughts. I had had nothing to do with the translation. I was with the Aucas only two years, during which Rachel Saint and I worked on reducing the language to writing, but we had barely begun to translate a few Bible stories when my daughter Valerie and I returned to Quichua work.

Sometimes I am asked to speak to young people who are toying with the idea of being missionaries. They want to know how I discovered the will of God. The first thing was to settle once and for all the supremacy of Christ in my life, I tell them. I put myself utterly and forever at His disposal, which means turning over all the rights: to myself, my body, my self-image, my notions of how I am to serve my Master. Oswald Chambers calls it "breaking the husk of my individual independence of God." Until that break comes, all the rest is "pious fraud." I tell these earnest kids that the will of God is always different from what they expect, always bigger, and, ultimately, infinitely more glorious than their wildest imaginings.

But there will be deaths to die. Paul found that out--daily, he said. That is the price of following the way of the cross--of course. If our object is to save others we must be clear that we cannot save ourselves. Jesus couldn't either.

This scares people. Yet what is there to fear when Christ holds first place in our lives? Where, other than in the will of the Father, shall we expect to find significance, security, and serenity?

God's guidance for me has been so different from my early notions--I was to be a jungle missionary for life! The complete futility, humanly speaking, of all the language work I did (Colorado, Quichua, and Auca, for various reasons, all came to nothing) was a deep lesson in the supremacy of Christ. Whom had I set out to serve? May He not do as He wills, then, with His servant and with that servant's work? Is anything offered to Christ ever wasted? I thought about the sacrifices of Old Testament times. When a man brought a lamb, the priest laid it on the altar, slit its throat, and burned it. The offering, then, was accepted. But what was left of it? Amy Carmichael, Irish missionary to India and author of forty books, taught me the implications of a living sacrifice. She wrote:

"'But these strange ashes, Lord, this nothingness,
This baffling sense of loss?'
Son, was the anguish of my stripping less
Upon the torturing cross?
Was I not brought into the dust of death,
A worm, and no man, I;
Yea, turned to ashes by the vehement breath
Of fire, on Calvary?
O son beloved, this is thy heart's desire:
This, and no other thing'
Follows the fall of the Consuming Fire
On the burnt offering.
Go on and taste the joy set high, afar,--
No joy like that to thee;
See how it lights the way like some great star.
Come now, and follow me."

I want to put it down right here that I have certainly "tasted the joy." I cannot imagine a more wonderfully blessed life than mine. Faithfulness of a loving Father--that's what I've found, every day of every week of every year, and it gets better. How I do hope those prospective missionaries will believe me!

God's Curriculum

One day recently something lit a fuse of anger in someone who then burned me with hot words. I felt sure I didn't deserve this response, but when I ran to God about it, He reminded me of part of a prayer I'd been using lately: "Teach me to treat all that comes to me with peace of soul and with firm conviction that Your will governs all."

Where could that kind of peace come from? Only from God, who gives "not as the world gives."

His will that I should be burned? Here we must tread softly. His will governs all. In a wrong-filled world we suffer (and cause) many a wrong. God is there to heal and comfort and forgive. He who brought blessing to many out of the sin of the jealous brothers against Joseph means this hurt for my ultimate blessing and, I think, for an increase of love between me and the one who hurt me. Love is very patient, very kind. Love never seeks its own. Love looks to God for his grace to help.

"It was not you who sent me here but God," Joseph said to his brothers. "You meant to do me harm; but God meant to bring good out of it" (Genesis 45:8, 50:20, NEB).

There is a philosophy of secular education which holds that the student ought to be allowed to assemble his own curriculum according to his preferences. Few students have a strong basis for making these choices, not knowing how little they know. Ideas of what they need to learn are not only greatly limited but greatly distorted. What they need is help from those who know more than they do.

Mercifully, God does not leave us to choose our own curriculum. His wisdom is perfect, His knowledge embraces not only all worlds but the individual hearts and minds of each of His loved children. With intimate understanding of our deepest needs and individual capacities, He chooses our curriculum. We need only ask, "Give us this day our daily bread, our daily lessons, our homework." An angry retort from someone may be just the occasion we need in which to learn not only longsuffering and forgiveness, but meekness and gentleness; fruits not born in us but borne only by the Spirit. As Amy Carmichael wrote, "A cup brimful of sweetness cannot spill even one drop of bitter water, no matter how suddenly jarred" (From her book IF published by Christian Literature Crusade).

God's curriculum for all who sincerely want to know Him and do His will will always include lessons we wish we could skip. But the more we apply ourselves, the more honestly we can say what the psalmist said: "I, thy servant, will study thy statutes. / Thy instruction is my continual delight; / I turn to it for counsel. / I will run the course set out in thy commandments, / for they gladden my heart" (Psalm 119:23, 24, 32, NEB).
